  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:19 AM) Everything. You sound like the typical Da-Bears fan with your obvious bias. It's actually funny, keep it going! The hell are you talking about? I haven't brought up the Bears a single time in this thread. Why would I be biased if I just said Aaron Rodgers is the real deal? Consistency please?
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:18 AM) Favre had the same RB, and played the first 6 games 2 years ago without him -- I think it was Favre that made that RB good, not the other wary around. Nobody'a afraid of Rogers yet -- he's good, but nobodys afraid of him...so they're stacking the box, whereas with Favre they loosened it, hence the RB appearing better than he was. Did you see Rodgers's numbers and watched him play? Dismiss him if you want, I'm glad you're not a DC in the NFL. I don't get why people are still doubting him, the dude's for real.
  3. What's this have to do with the Bears? Get off that.
  4. I didn't say the Vikings were going to suck, but all of the de facto clinging to Favre's dick is unwarranted. Oh and Rodgers > Favre, sorry. Can't blame the lack of a QB for a decline in the RB's play.
  5. QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:10 AM) Please keep the discussion in the healthcare thread. Maybe we can merge this latter? This is the healthcare thread...?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 08:22 AM) Ozzie on the Sox: ''We have to remember our ballclub in the beginning of the season was not a good one,'' Guillen said. "With all due respect, [early in the season] we've got [bartolo] Colon and [Jose] Contreras down [with injuries]. We've got Josh [Fields], Brian [Anderson], [Dewayne] Wise playing. I mean, please. ''But in the meantime, if I got a bet in the American League Central, I will take a good chance on my ballclub. Very good chance. Interesting. We always knew he thought Anderson sucked, but Fields and Wise? lol, refreshing to hear him come out and actually say the truth about Wise.
  7. Favre is an upgrade, but not as much as people are saying it is. First off, what is he, about the 22nd best QB in the NFL right now? Then, remember that he had that bicep issue (yes he had surgery but he is old), the partially torn rotator cuff, then he hasn't bothered with training camp or practice and he's going to have to cram the Vikings' offense and wing it with the WRs. He does have a great line and AD to play with but come on, let's quit acting like Favre still plays at a Hall of Fame level. It was a joke that he made the Pro Bowl last year.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 12:27 AM) Saying we don't have a free market system currently is the same as sayign we don't have free speech because you can't yell fire in a theater, or that you don't have freedom of religion because a principal is going to jail for praying in school. Not really unless you consider "take what your employer gives you or drop your employer's insurance and pay out the ass and in the meantime hope you don't lose it when you need it" an actual choice. Can the system be reformed to allow better choices and competition, yes or no? I say yes. Kap laid out a case for it earlier too. Methinks you are so caught up in hating the initial ideas from the government that you're hating everything else by extension.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 07:50 AM) [...]-wing is usually used in a derogatory manner. It would have been better to say "conservative" or "libertarian" imo because those don't contain the negative connotations. Good point

QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Did he lose this game for us? It's debatable. I do know he WON 2 games last week for us. A player doesn't win games by himself, you know that. If one of your favorite players made a really bad mistake that ended up being the decisive run scored/not scored and someone made a thread you'd be saying "we didn't lose the game because of so and so, stop b****ing." I think this point is really valid (if not exactly a revelation), Alexei can hit especially when he's hot, but his head is never in the game. Most physically gifted player on the team, but he's a bonehead.
  11. Someone called this a week or so ago, I don't remember who. Saying he was going to be sent to the DL with a fake injury so he can be on the 40 man and not be DFA.
  12. Again, I like Nix, and I am a Jayson Nix fan. But his splits vs. RHP are not good and if he was a full-time player he'd have a lot more ABs against RHP, as compared to now when he gets to see lefties more often (at least before Getz got hurt). So we're making an assumption that Nix's production would stay the same, that he would improve vs. RHP rather than be exposed. I'm not ready to buy that. Show me some offensive consistency from Nix before I say he's a better player.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) Nix is on a statistical pace for about 30 homeruns in a 162 game season. Getz is on pace for about three. Projections like this don't mean much of anything. Put Nix in and have him play 155 games against both RHP and LHP and then see what he looks like. If he wasn't so bad against RHP he would be a MLB starter.
  14. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) There isn't? Wow. You can choose to work, or not. Or get health care, or not. Or get an individual plan instead of that nice IPhone, or not. Whatever. The choice is yours. Instead, let's all get cattle driven into one plan and encourage NO competition. Woot! It isn't a true free market system at all in its current form, I thought this was more or less settled a couple dozen pages ago.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:40 PM) This isnt comparable to Frank Thomas. Thomas did not fake retirement for 4 straight years. Thomas did not have his little ESPN crying fits for every interview he did for the past 3 years. Thomas would still be playing right now if a team would offer him a contract, he would not claim that he wanted to be with his family and retire just so he could get out of Spring Training. Brett Favre did all of those things, and now he is playing for a rival just as big as the Bears to the Pack. I would be really pissed off at Frank if he pulled that s*** and ended up in Minnesota. The drama is old and tired. Im done with it. I hope that he fails so much that he never wants to pick up a ball again. I hope the entire NFC North(including the Lions) forces him into so many bad decisions that he is booed equally at home that he will be in Lambeau. f*** BRETT FAVRE. THE END I'd boo the s*** out of Frank Thomas if he did something analogous to what Favre has done over the past few years. (He hasn't, so like you said, this is an awful comparison to make without adding a bunch of other hypotheticals). -Be indecisive, but have the franchise be patient with him and let you make up his own mind as draft get a very good replacement 1B for him to eventually take over -Be indecisive again, the next year, bristle and say "that's not in my job description" when asked about mentoring the replacement, waffle over retirement and eventually say "I'll stay," still keeping most people on your side -Retire, cry etc. and say it's finally over, org. moves ahead with plans and allows replacement to finally step in and enter ST as the starting 1B -Say he didn't really mean it when he wanted to retire and claim the org. forced you out. Trash the management after all the patience they've shown him, displays open animosity. Demand he be allowed to play and start for the Sox again, when they say no, publicly cry and try to demand trade to Cubs, Tigers, Indians, or Twins to spite the Sox. KW trades Frank to the Mets with a poison pill in the deal to keep him off those teams. -Plays for the Mets for one year, has mediocre season but gets a token All-Star appearance off his name. Has another fake retirement at the end of the year. Claims it's for real this time. -Now freed from any obligations, sees the Tigers needs a DH, sees perfect opportunity to spite KW. Talks to Twins again in the winter but says it was just talk, but then skips ST to join the Twins at the start of the year and play against one of the Sox' main rivals. Yes, it would take a lot, but I would DEFINITELY boo Frank Thomas if he had done all those things.
  16. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 05:19 PM) Because the Packers forced him into retirement Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls*** Bulls***
  17. QUOTE (kev211 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) Well that's just terrible. Booing the greatest player your franchise has ever seen. Playing on a rival to spite your franchise, so if he wanted to say "f*** him" that's totally understandable.
  18. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Did they already send Lillibridge down? Or is he still with the team? He came back when Getz got hurt a couple days ago
  19. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) If you shorten it up a bit, I think you got something. Scott "Longball" Linebrink Scott "Leadgiving" Linebrink Scott "Way Back" Linebrink
  20. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:20 PM) Wow. I hope he falls on his face. As a Packer fan I can't wait till he comes to Green Bay. We are gonna kick his ass. I hate the Packers but I hope Rodgers has 700 yards and 6 TDs against the Vikings in the 2 games.
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Its more like we as bears fans hate him with a passion for constant ass beatings we had to endure in the 90's, and just wish he would go away forever He hasn't done much against the Bears since Lovie's been the coach.
  22. QUOTE (T R U @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) I don't get whats with all the hate for Brett Favre.. If he wants to play, whats the big deal.. You're only upset he went to the Vikings Not really. He isn't that good and for once in my life the Bears actually have a QB that is better than him so it's definitely not envy. Watching him fail as a Viking is an awesome thought, both Bears and Packers fans can get off on it.
  23. I don't know if it would be the norm, but Nix was a disaster at SS in the limited time there.
  24. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) Range at 3B is more about reaction time than speed. This, here. It's a different skillset than SS.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 11:55 AM) Brett Favre is a selfish, bastard and i can't wait to watch Brian Urlacher sit on his face two more times. It's too bad Mean Mike Brown isn't around anymore to knock him the f*** out. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4...onsin&hl=en
