  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 09:21 PM) There's got to be someone on this site that's older than 59. I mean, 59 isn't that old. Old people aren't allowed to use the internet. Or that's what I tell my parents anyway, but they don't listen and sign up for Facebook accounts. Grrr.
  2. Sigh, one of my "friends" on Facebook made a status saying that calling Obama a Nazi is valid because national socialism = socialism so I have to explain to her that you really couldn't get much farther apart, and also throwing out the "Nazi" card immediately flags you as someone who nobody is going to take seriously. I feel like I'm telling someone that the moon isn't the sun.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) You joke, but if you were here late in 2003 that statement would bring back quite the memories QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 05:00 PM) None of predators better prey on me… 19. 20 in a month. WTF Sonix you have ESP? I'm 27.

    Alexei

QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 02:45 PM) This is one of the problems with sabermetrics. Based on simply watching him play, it's difficult to argue that Alexei was worse at 2B last season than he is at SS this year. Yeah I agree with that. There is too much data fluctuation with UZR to rely on it as the holy grail, a 1-point difference in UZR comparing periods of a couple months doesn't really tell you anything. It just happens to be the best of the defensive stats but that isn't saying a whole lot.
  5. QUOTE (hawkubes @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) I'm not gonna try and argue that Greg Walker's the best in the business, but why rip on him in this thread. Despite Nix's low batting average, he has become a very dangerous hitter. In his previous mlb experience, he was a completely useless hitter in probably the most hitter-friendly park in the mlb. IMO, Jason Nix is one reason to keep Greg Walker around. What? He appeared in 22 games. How can you possibly draw a meaningful conclusion from that?
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Ha, funny, and also true. Mods smack alot of people's points and arguments around with zero consequence. Mods get warned and/or suspended. You wouldn't know it because it's not something that gets broadcasted just like anybody else. You wouldn't see a mod getting suspended for name-calling or anything like that though because it hardly ever happens (if it did they wouldn't be mods). I'm amused that you think you know what you're talking about here though (Nixon and me were talking in IM at the time).
  7. QUOTE (WCSox @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 06:44 PM) Unless you're a Patriots fan talking about Mo Lewis' hit on Bledsoe back in 2001. Or if the player you're talking about is Bre-... nevermind.
  8. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) if ESPN didnt cover it 24/7, you would feel different about him. Your perception is being dictated by the media This is all Favre's engineering, it's totally intentional. The media goes crazy over him and he knows it. Remember in '05 when he said he knew he was coming back all along, and bragging that he really had the media going?
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:53 AM) Bold statement from a guy that wanted Chris Getz leading off at the beginning of the season. Eh if not Getz who was going to lead off for the Sox? Wise was an epic, epic fail up there.
  10. BTW the USSS's public comments on that situation are just putting a positive spin on an uncomfortable situation - you're crazy if you think they're happy about it.
  11. Has anyone seen Huck's birth certificate? Just curious. Shouldn't he have to prove he's an American? I will also need to personally verify its accuracy.
  12. Criticizing American foreign policy while on foreign soil is un-American, or at best, "apologizing for being American" is it not? At least that's what we've been told, so... why is the right pretending Huckabee's criticizing of Obama's policy while in Israel as something else?
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 04:07 PM) Gordon strikes out proving he is but a true mere mortal He struck out because he wanted to. He will forgive you for this near-blasphemous statement though.
  14. HMOs are fine if you're healthy and don't go to the doctor that much, they suck ass if you ever actually need anything. Getting through that red tape is a b****.
  15. Another statement of fact though. Are you, or are you not a habitual s***-starter?
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) I'm doing the comparison of a fan favorite joining a rival. The fan favorite would have to have gone through 3-4 years of soap opera drama and temper tantrums, holding the team hostage and squeezing out every ounce of goodwill, then publicly throwing a tantrum when the team says "enough" then all the things that happen after that. I made a post earlier showing what it would take for me to boo Frank Thomas, Joe Crede, etc.
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:33 AM) Can we still call Farve a douche? Yes. That's just a simple statement of fact.
  18. Also, guys, no name-calling, next one who does it gets 10 days off.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Like Crede signed with Minny and Maggs signed with Detroit? This is really weak, with all due respect if you think it begins and ends with the fact that he's playing for a division rival then you're not paying attention.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) HA! I love it. I wonder if that women realized Frank is Jewish when she called the plan he is supporting a "Nazi Plan". I'd tend to think she's rather ignorant. lol, Barney Frank has given plenty of reasons to say bad things about him, you don't have to make up reasons.
  21. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 10:04 AM) To be fair, I agree -- I need to give Rodgers more time. And Rodgers is better than Cutler, for the record...it's not even close. Eh, debatable. He's going to put up better numbers than Cutler in GB this year, that's almost a certainty, but he has much more to work with.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:50 AM) All great statistics. But as in baseball, there are so many statistics for other statistics that they often cover up reality. I've watched Rodgers in the final 2 minutes of many games in which they were trailing -- and he lost them. I know you'd love to dismiss that "small sample size", but in football, that "small sample size" is often one of the most telling stats in the game for a QB. He's shown he's incapable of coming from behind with just a few minutes left in the game. He also has a big problem if he has to carry the team -- as his passer rating drops precipitiously when he throws more than 30 passes in a game. It was his first season starting. He did a damn good job and as I said, in the small sample size, those numbers are actually comparable to Favre (who I've seen blow a game many a time with an untimely INT and I'm sure you have too). Before the Bears got Cutler, I'd have taken him over almost any QB in the NFL. He's only had 8 attempts on 4th down - you really can't draw anything meaningful out of that. 3 of 8 last year, Favre was 2 of 7 in '06, 6 of 13 in '05 etc. you see where I'm going with this.
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 09:24 AM) I've been a Packer fan for decades, so yes, I've watched him. He has talent...too bad he's a FA soon. Also, he's not very good under game time pressure. As soon as it's the 4th quarter he has shown a lack of ability to make a comeback...until he does that, he's not going to be called the successor, at least not by me. The Packers will give him an extension unless they are stupid. I've debunked this myth about him not being a "winner" before but I suppose I can do it again (I have no vested interest in defending Rodgers). The numbers simply don't bear this out. The Packers' defense sucked last year, Rodgers didn't choke. 4th quarter: 87.8 rating, 87/143 60.8% Late and close: 93.7 rating, 54/85, 63.5% (very similar in regular close situations) Playing from behind: 88.9 rating, 160/258, 62% 3rd down: 105.8 rating In losses: 83.1 rating, 60% 2 mins left: 69.4 rating, 62.9% His completion percentage, accuracy, decision-making etc. are pretty even across the board. Besides the 2-minute drill, which is a pretty small sample size (and pretty similar to Favre's in 2007 which you keep pointing to anyway), there are no obvious red flags. His production in all situations are as good as or better than Favre's basically across the board, even going back 2-3 years.
