  1. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) Just read this.. Crede might retire: According to Phil Rogers of the Chicago Tribune, Twins third baseman Joe Crede might opt to retire after this season. Crede has dealt with back issues for years and was placed on the disabled list Friday night after an epidural failed to relieve his ongoing lower back discomfort. At the young age of 31, it'd be a tragedy to see him go, but he's a free agent in the fall and obviously has the right to end his career on his own terms. Crede is a .254/.304/.444 career hitter. He won a Silver Slugger award in 2006 and was named an All-Star for the first time in 2008. He lasted longer this season than I thought he would. Too bad for Joe. If there remains anyone convinced that cutting ties with Crede was the wrong thing to do, well there you have it.
  2. Can we please ban the next person who brings up the 2006 Cardinals as some kind of comparison to this team?
  3. QUOTE (b-Rye @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) Hudson started the season in A ball, I don't consider that top pitching prospect. Peavy is hurt btw and blocked a trade to the Sox before. Who cares. Peavy is healed from the injury he came here with. He hasn't pitched yet b/c he got hit on the arm with a line drive which is a fluke occurrence. The fact that he blocked the first trade has no relevance to anything whatsoever. Peavy >>> Richard + Poreda unless one of the other two steps up big time.
  4. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 11:11 AM) Marketing analyst for a company that provides parts primarily to the Government (and all their subcontractors and DoD contract winners) and Commercial Air industry. You work in the same general industry as me.
  5. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 07:03 PM) I think that we know what they do, but the way our system's set up, we can't stop it. Then again, if any serious war were to happen, no one would have any electricity or any other means of communication anyway anymore. And I don't think it's "star wars" crap, either. Electromagnetics are a b****. I wasn't talking about that, but you're right about this too. http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/arti...o_business.html They s*** they can do and get away with is staggering.
  6. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 04:14 PM) That's already been proven - they know that the Chicomms have accessed our electric grid, more or less to see if they could. They can. D'oh. There's not much I can or will say about this specific subject, but I'll say the Chinese are very, very good at what they do and I have no idea what our government is supposed to do to stop them. Although if they did it's not like they'd share that information with everyone anyway.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 03:22 PM) wtf could possibly happen that would require this? Some rogue terrorist group sending out massive amounts of tweets? I'm not an expert on the topic but I think the threat of cyberterrorism is completely overrated. It's not really possible to attack the entire Internet at once, so what's a nightmare scenario? A virus that takes down your bank's/cellphone's website, so it goes down for a day or so while they recover everything? Somehow hacking and taking over a government website and stealing secrets? All of the really important stuff is pretty insulated from that kind of thing and in some cases it's basically impossible, for all intents and purposes.
  8. It's just plain unintelligent to bash Roethlisberger. Watch him play. His line sucks s***, but he is still somehow really hard to tackle. His running backs aren't much to brag about. He is basically the entire Steelers offense, that is a 5-11 team without him. I really hate Rivers, but... yes, the guy is a legit top 5 QB in this league.
  9. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 01:30 PM) But lost, and some others, seriously, that PR bulls*** is part of the huge problem. So what PR bulls*** is Obama spinning now to get health care passed? Cap and Trade? Where does it stop? So it's ok to "PR bulls***" to get stuff rammed down our throats? Wait, we "needed stimulus" but it is all the wrong kind, and no jobs are resulting - which is the most important part, because you can't have a solid and stable recovery without them. You just made my point about Barack Obama to a "T" almost without meaning to. That's the way of Washington, it always has been, and it's never going to change. It honestly doesn't even bother me anymore, I don't have the time or energy to be worried about that kind of s***. It registers in my mind the same way a neighbor's loud ass barking dog does, or the planes approaching BWI that fly over my house. I hear it, but I don't really notice it. As long as it doesn't reach the level of outright lying (which he didn't do - say what you want about what you think about how effective it will be, but just because you don't believe the same theories he does doesn't mean he's lying) then I don't really care. It's all a game, no matter how good your intentions may be you're up against big money and entrenched interests. I won't delude myself into thinking it's something other than what it is.
  10. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 01:23 PM) Well, our very own Messiah President was screaming that we had to pass this NOW because they were going to "save or create" whatever the hell number they had out there # of jobs. It was a lie, and continues to be a lie, and as such, the "stimulus" is not working, well, yea, it's "working" but not like they said and told us it would. Just more lies from our Savior. Meh that was PR bulls*** to get the bill passed and should be seen for what it is. That's a pretty minor thing and the least of complaints I had with the stimulus.
  11. QUOTE (kapkomet @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) This "stimulus" was and is not designed for a job recovery. It's simply to boost GDP to make it look artificially like they are doing something. See 3rd Qtr GDP (most bounce will occur from cash for clunkers). Media: Yea, STIMULUS IS WORKING!. What a lot of you people don't understand: these companies are not going to hire people back. Not nearly as much as they have cut. The management realizes that they can do the same with less, drive people like slave labor (read: middle management works 60-70 hours a week to take up the slack of "cuts" but at least you people have a job!!). This will not change for a long time. Aka, jobless recovery - which then means you don't have a long term recovery - you can't without private sector jobs. And again, that was never the intent of the "stimulus". Who in this thread is saying the stimulus was designed to add jobs? But meh, people were already complaining in May when the stimulus wasn't "working" yet. That's just part of the game.
  12. QUOTE (Cknolls @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:10 PM) Even scarier is DEFLATION. Hasn't the risk of that passed already?
  13. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:51 PM) Yes, and us Kappies do not like being forced to agree with NorthSideSox72, but you've left me no choice... I think a little part of me just died. Thanks a lot. :/ You must think NSS is a liberal or something...?
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) I'm just looking for reasons to show more people my new sig. I could care less if you guys get into it. :lolhitting :lolhitting Awesome
  15. I'm not angry, that was deliberate and there was a reason for it.
  16. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Aug 28, 2009 -> 12:34 AM) Exactly the type of lazy, ignorant post I'm talking about. Looking for any way to try to bash an actually insightful post with no effort whatsoever. I'm not saying he's preaching that. I'm not gonna find a video of it. But I would love to hear the theories of those opposing me of why this type of laziness and lack of IQ at the plate is an epidemic with this team. I'm sure ALL of our hitters are just stupid. And it's been like this for years. Seriously, I'm not saying it has to be all Walker's fault... but do some thinking, people. If our hitters are simply dead at the plate almost all season every year, how is the hitting coach not to blame at all? So many of you defend each and every bit of the coaching staff that you seem to forget that they have purposes on this team. Some of you are a real headache to try and have a logical discussion with. God these types of posts are really f***ing annoying. You're being so self-assured, condescending and regurgitating BS when you actually look like you're talking out of your ass. Why do you have to act like this? You're not technically breaking any rules, but who are you kidding?
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 09:31 PM) Is using a minotaur to gore detainees a form of torture? lol, this is awesome
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) Yet this is exactly what will happen with governmental health care. Wait I really, really don't get this. You're saying, in essence, that the government would be approving which tests the doctors can and can't do? Since when has this not always been done?
  19. I just noticed it was a link to the Bleacher Report.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Well I stand corrected. If you have a link, I'd like to see it. If not that's fine, I can go find it I'd think. I think this is the article I read when it happened a few weeks ago. http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/17/hou...care/index.html It actually looks kind of half-assed imo.
  21. QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) What difference would it make? If you have, say, a nationwide restaurant chain, are you going to run the exact same ads during Dancing with the Stars as you would during music videos on BET?
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:43 PM) Yeah, that's why I asked that. He was born into millions of dollars. He didn't need the paycheck or, arguably, the power. The prestige, the whole "legacy" thing, all of that makes sense. Money, not so much.
  23. Netflix = utorrent j/k I would NEVER do... something like that...
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 02:11 PM) Why did KW think it was a good idea to trade an everyday player for this ineffective pitcher? Please tell me he doesn't have the type of contract where we'll be unable to dump him for a bag of chips this winter. Everyday player?
