  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:37 PM) Rep Joe Wilson, R-SC. That was really fast. 1.5 hours. Not impressed, Rush Limbaugh could've gotten an apology in under an hour.
  2. That really is kind of a moot point, because then they are no longer illegal. Plus I don't really see how it matters if they are legal, employed, productive, tax-paying American citizens (it's not like all illegals come here just to mooch but this is just accepted as fact in dumbed-down immigration debates). Trying to arbitrarily tie the two together is kind of intellectually dishonest. The way things work in the ideologue's world and in the actual world are totally different.
  3. Also I want to know how he was lying about the illegal immigrant there when I've seen a passage (I don't know which one or where) that specifically says what he just said.
  4. My friend on Facebook: "if Obama was a couple of shades darker he would've paused the teleprompter and handled that." lol Biden rolled his eyes and shook his head.
  5. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:10 PM) Respect the office. I thought it was outrageous when the Code Pink jackasses interrupted Bush's speeches. They however are not elected officials. The elected officals should know that is about the office of the president. The other thing is the pep rally affect. This has been going on for years. One side jumps up, claps like they never heard such a great thing. The other side keeps sitting, makes faces and looks grumpy. The dems did it with bush, and the republicans are doing it with Obama. Its dumb either way. How about a new rule ( not to sound Bill Maherish ). Keep your ass in the seat until the speech is over. No response to the speech until its over good or bad. Its a speech, not an interactive talk. I always thought it was funny when the camera would zoom in on Hillary Clinton or whoever while they had that "ok I'm clapping but I think this is bulls***" look.
  6. QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 03:16 PM) Believe it or not, that's somewhat of a legacy of the Carter administration. It was Carter that presided over requests to restart the arms race with the USSR after their invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 and 1980. It was also the Cater administration's idea to provide aid to the mujahedeen in Afghanistan when the Soviets started intervening. Reagan's people took that idea and ran with it.
  7. I don't understand that. Corporations are run by people but they aren't people themselves. That they have rights is understood, but human rights? Come on now. Modern corporations didn't even exist when the Constitution was written so I don't get that angle, either. I just don't see how you could draw a conclusion like that. The CEO of a corporation making political donations and statements is one thing, Corporation X run by said CEO doing the same thing is quite another and that's a path to corruption and oligarchy that will never be turned back from. Before someone jumps on me with the inevitable "union" counterpoint, no, I don't really think unions should have as much say and influence either. Union members should, certainly (just like a corporation's employees), even speaking in public about their preferences, but the union itself, no.
  8. You have to rush major bills and push Congress to do them otherwise it doesn't get done and there are several reasons why. He wants healthcare passed in his first term (assuming he gets re-elected) and he is going to have to do immigration next. If he DOESN'T push healthcare, it becomes summer 2010, and before you know it - midterm elections, and people in Congress (especially the House) get focused on re-election then and you'll just be talking over their heads, and you'll be lucky if you can get another major initiative through. After midterm elections there is no guarantee his majority will be as strong and he's certainly not going to just sit back and get pummeled on healthcare and be a big factor in weakening or losing the majority (cuz he campaigned on doing healthcare and dragged his feet and got nothing accomplished). Does pushing healthcare now affect his re-election chances? Of course it does. That's just reality though. Modern politics is a perpetual campaign season.
  9. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) More likely underperformance especially by the bullpen and failure to execute properly with men on base. The latter point is just maddening to watch.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 05:41 PM) The one nice thing that would come out of Crede retiting is the end of the damned threads. Amen
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Wow. It's not like he isn't a tough player. Have you known anybody with back problems? There's no way you can play baseball effectively with back problems. None. His ass of an agent was stupid getting him a deal with a team that plays on turf. This was a year he should have signed with a team that plays on grass, any team that plays on grass. It's funny seeing you say this because it's been said over and over and over that this is the reason Crede was losing effectiveness and wasn't likely to be effective anymore and as such wasn't a good fit for the Sox going forward, and yet it still got resistance. I guess it's just ironic. I thank Crede for all the good he's done for the Sox. I also recognize reality.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) Kinda like the tax thing isn't a dem issue, it just has more of them recently. It's a people issue. Agreed. The only reason I cared about the Sanford thing is because it was bizarre and f***ing hilarious. And I like to mock hypocrites (social conservatives who cheat on their wives and/or secretly perform homosexual acts, telling other people it's immoral). But this really isn't a "Dem" or "GOP" thing.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) You know, for a while there I was so proud of this site for not having bought in to the lunacy on the conversion of America's children to Commies... In fairness, SSI isn't really doing that
  14. Yeah I find that really embarrassing, I really don't know what to do anymore other than to shake my head and pity them. I don't align politically with guys like southsider, kap, Cknolls etc. but at least when you argue with them or they challenge you, what they say has basis in fact (kap's occasional outbursts notwithstanding) and have ideas they actually understand. People who can't think critically and have no interest in doing so, but still parrot what other people say really irk me. That they are allowed to have brains is dangerous. They should just be lobotomized and have their brains replaced with computer hardware, and have the firmware periodically updated. edit: this was supposed to follow Balta's previous sarcastic post but a few more posts followed
  15. Granted I was 9 years old in 1991 but I don't remember anything near the scale of last week happening.
  16. So the whole point of the "Obama apology tour" was just to trash America, clearly. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090909/ap_on_...GxldXJvcGVhbg-- He would be doing so much better if he went to a foreign capital and just bragged about how awesome America was and talk about how everybody wishes they could be like us but never will, but try anyway.
  17. I take it for you torrents don't qualify as "safe" so that's a no-go?
  18. I've always wondered what the point of this law was. I can't really see how someone who is either a longtime naturalized US citizen or even more pointlessly, someone who was a US citizen by birth and happened to be born outside the US and came back at a relatively young age could possibly be any less "American" or less qualified to be president. And on the same hand, there are some pretty s***ty "Americans" that were born here but I am downright ashamed to share the same nationality as them. Being born here in and of itself means nothing. Absolutely nothing.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 01:48 AM) I would try and stay away from repeaters. All you are doing is making your network more complex. I would see if you could pull an ethernet cable from your basement to your middle floor and host your N AP there. N devices usually drive signal pretty good due to the multiple antenna array in each AP. Remember if you are using the 2.4 gigahertz version of N, you are sitting on a limited pool of channels. Only 11 of them ( 3 of which are unique ). So you might want to do a quick site survey around your property and make sure that one of your neighbors isn't overdriving your AP. With it being in the basement you are driving your signal through some dense material. The more layers, the less your signal will propagate. Moving it up to the middle floor, and picking a least congested channel should work for you. As Y2HH said, 5 gigahertz is a nice wide open space with less interference. Too bad most N devices seem to only use the 2.4 gigahertz side of the house instead of being dual banded. I just spent some time at my brothers house who was complaining that his wireless suddenly was terrible. The little old lady next door bought a new G router and used large external antennas to create a large blanket of coverage. She happened to choose an adjoining signal to my brother and basically killed his signal through his house except within 50 feet of his AP. Here is another fun fact. Other things in your house can cause issues with your wireless signal. Use those old 2.4 gigahertz phones. Yeah they use frequency hopping and step all over your signal. Microwaves also throw up a nice interference blast. Powerline devices do work, however they have their limitations. If you have something that uses a lot of power in spikes, say like an Iron. My network used to go up and down the minute the heating element in the iron would power up. For you windows users. Here is a pretty damn good little tool for use for in house surveys. Not only does it give you information with SSIDs and channels, but if you look over to the lower right hand corner. It also shows you what it looks like as far as the channel overlap. And of course it has my favorite requirement for a tool, its free. http://www.metageek.net/products/inssider I could move my router to the middle floor, it's just a matter of "do I want to." My desktop PC (the one I'm typing on right now, in the basement) is wired and I'd have to buy a receiver for it, or run 2 long ethernet cables. Or a new cable wire for my modem. Either way another cable to go up there with it. On the middle floor the signal is plenty strong. I'm wanting to test how the WPA works with the Xbox (on the top floor) but for whatever reason, I'm having a b**** of a time redoing the Windows Media Center since I re-installed Vista. I don't know what's wrong, it worked fine before but now my desktop knows the 360 is there and asks if I want to configure it but when I start the process with the 360 it can't see my computer. It's pissing me off, doesn't appear to be a firewall thing with my Norton 360 since it worked fine just before and I turned my firewall off and it still didn't work. That was a smooth process at first, now it's a clusterf***.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) No, its been fine as long as I keep it up to date. Also I just upgraded my network to a LInksys N router with WPA2 protection. It was only 30 bucks on amazon and I have seen great performance improvements in both downloading and streaming media. Actually since I took Y2HH's advice it seems that WPA is much more reliable than what I was doing before and the signal is stronger. I don't know if that's just some weird placebo effect in my head or whatever. I think I've settled on this for my streaming device: http://www.netgear.com/Products/Entertainm...=Specifications
  21. QUOTE (DonkeyKongerko @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 06:00 PM) The only saving grace is that all this happened in a game we wouldn't have won anyways The saving grace is that this is the last year of Contreras's brutal contract.

So, I'm not an electrician, but apparently there is more than one circuit in my house. The powerline adapter works if you plug it into one on the same circuit, which I did. I moved it to one upstairs and it didn't work. So I took it back to Best Buy and I'm just going to get a wireless N signal booster instead, as per suggestion (those things are kind of rare).
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 03:06 AM) I actually think Tom Brady is kinda overrated. I think he's a great QB and all. But when people put him in the same class as Montana/Elway/Marino, I want to behead something. I want to hug you right now. I say the exact same thing but I get resistance from the Brady ball-nibblers who have been brainwashed by ESPN and the rest of those who verbally fellate him. I tend to be pigeonholed by people who are insinuating I'm saying something I never said (i.e. Brady isn't that good). The Pats are a well-oiled machine... Brady is the most important part of it, but the parts are mostly interchangeable (see Matt Cassel). Does this mean I wouldn't love him on my team if he had the supporting cast? Absolutely not, because he will be a winner. But he won't make a team all by himself. Give him the s*** blocking Roethlisberger has and see what his numbers look like then.
  24. I'm never completely "out" but I've reached the point where I expect nothing else from this team. I'm mentally turning the page to 2010 now.
