  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 07:48 PM) Great. Brian is already for the BoSox. You almost got me, I started to click then I thought "why the hell would he link to a Youtube video and not to a box score?"
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Honestly, I would but into this crap if there was a pattern of guys who had failed to hit here and then moved onto other organizations where they started living up to their "potential." But it just hasn't happened. We haven't had guys leaving here and suddenly turning into all-stars elsewhere. Chris Young.
  3. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) I'm sure he is smart enough to see that the pen is desperate for lefties, especially with Thornton expecting his kid. Aaron Poreda anybody?
  4. I actually would like the Alexei 2B, Beckham SS, Nix 3B configuration. I was thinking about it earlier. Getz is not playing his way to the bench but it's worth considering whether reshuffling the team that way makes it better.
  5. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) I wonder if all of you who think eating meat is wrong would get mad at the Berbers, Australian aboriginees (sp?), Amazon tribes or Southeast Asian/Indian Ocean/Polynesian tribes who live today the same way (or pretty damned close at least) to how they lived hundreds if not thousands of years ago? I personally do not understand the argument that eating meat is wrong, or that we aren't "supposed" to be doing so. As for hunting, I have no problem with hunters who eat their catch. I personally dislike hunting purely for sport, but if people want to do it I won't raise a stink about it. I do think the fur trade is disgusting however. I'm fine with the groups of people who do it because that is part of how they survive, but I will never own a fur coat or buy one for anyone else. That I don't agree with. I think it has more to do with compassion for the animals as sentient creatures than it does with being wrong.
  6. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) what were you trying to say here I'm pretty sure he was being sarcastic since the link qwerty posted said the 2 spot should be filled by a high OBP player.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) My God, this man has 9 foot arms and the Bulls have a couple open roster spots. I'd be thinking more like "wow Dhalsim from Street Fighter is a real person?"
  8. Don't cyclists have the same rights on the road as cars? Just move over into the right lane and stay out of my way and we're good. Don't make it difficult for me to pass you. I totally get that riding the sidewalk isn't the greatest idea. On the other hand, motorcyclists who whip around me when I'm doing 75 on the highway... yeah. I'm visualizing you crashing into the back of a truck.
  9. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) I hate the "added pressure" argument. Every player is expected to produce, no matter what spot in the lineup they are. I don't see how moving him up to the 2 spot will add much pressure... Worst case scenario he would be moved back down in the lineup. His job isn't on the line or anything. I hate that argument too actually. This is the same logic that led to Wise leading off the year for the Sox when at the time Getz showed he was capable of doing it at least temporarily. Wise sucks hard and forces Getz to have to lead off, and voila! Getz hits .340 for that month with a .396 OBP. When he finally does tail off it's for reasons unrelated to "pressure" (i.e., having scouting reports catch up to him and having to adjust).
  10. QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:56 PM) Thanks for making my point. Now tell us why he's hitting 4th in the lineup with a .400 OBP?
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Why don't you come break into my house, and we can go from there? [/green] Well technically I'd have to break into my own house right?
  12. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) It's a nothing trade for them, but Kotsay was done in Boston anyhow...he helped them no more, served no real purpose. They don't care is probably the worst reaction, but none are gonna gripe about getting a former high draft pick who plays good CF (though he'll never hit I agree) for a guy they designated out. That's basically where Anderson was with the Sox, which is why he wanted to be traded.
  13. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Sox heading in the youth movement. Kenny couldn't have gotten anything better than this? A AA prospect? Anything? It's Brian Anderson. Read the reactions of Red Sox fans, they're mostly like "who cares."
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) I was watching CNN yesterday when the played the tape. About 10 minutes after that they reported that the cop contacted the caller to 911 for further clarification and that was when she said the person "breaking in" was black. Yeah, I was writing that when you made your last post.
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:35 PM) He really shouldn't weigh in on anything off-topic, nowadays, because the media is hoping to find anything to avoid talking about healthcare. But I reject the notion that an officer cannot be criticized without the claim that all officers are being criticized. Some people make poor choices and deserve to get called on it, especially if they are in power. I'm not saying Crowley shouldn't be criticized, not at all. Just that after knowing more about it, I really don't think race was much of a factor here and Gates is up on his high horse making himself look kind of like a fool. And you've seen me posting about politics enough to know that I'm not usually one to gloss over racial issues.
  16. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) I'm in pretty good shape being an educated white male with impeccable looks.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) They also reported on CNN yesterday that the cop called the caller to 911 back while going to the call to get more information, and that is when the race of Gates was clarified. That makes it completely different then.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:30 PM) Seems to match to me - what am I missing here? 911 operator asked what race the people she saw were and the caller said she couldn't really tell. Crowley said he was told 2 black men were breaking into the house. The caller never said anything about black men so it's unclear where he got that from.
  19. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:11 PM) one thing though, what's worse. Being rude to a cop coming into your home and claiming you broke in, even being disrespectful and crude... or arresting someone. Yes and that was stupid, although not necessarily "wrong," on Crowley's part. But still Obama shouldn't have weighed in with that question at the end of his healthcare press conference.
  20. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:13 PM) Because it gets old to question things, and when you have questions around here people do nothing but try to show you why you shouldn't have questions and you should just believe stuff because it's on the internet, or in a poll, or written in some journal. I don't take things for fact so easily, and I find it insulting when people question why. bmags and StrangeSox explained several times each in detail why they don't agree with you, and in response you fall on your sword and say they're insulting you. Besides bmags's sarcastic Palin comparison (ironically in a response to you claiming to be insulted) not a single person was doing that.
  21. Ok this is getting silly, nobody was getting personal with anybody until like 5 minutes ago when this thread was inexplicably re-defined into a thread ganging up on Y2HH (when nobody is doing that).
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:10 PM) You know what's awesome? Straw men. I love straw men. So what you're saying is you hate scarecrows? What the hell is your problem?
  23. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) I think I agree with Jesse Ventura -- I'm not sure when it happened, but wow...raising questions has become a bad thing, apparently. Even here on Sox Talk. I have questions...so we should jump on Y2HH and try to belittle him so nobody takes him seriously anymore and his opinions and questions no longer hold water. I guess that's just the modern time. I apologize for questioning the validity of polls. I apologize for questioning the governments ability to run health care. I apologize for having questions -- I don't know why I do -- I mean, you guys have all the answers, it seems. I'll just fall in line and listen to everything you say, nod in agreement like a good little lemming, and maybe you'll give me a chocolate chip cookie now and again. I'd rather not. Holy strawman. No one is belittling you, only the validity of your arguments. You're not a thin-skinned guy, why do this?
