  1. Nice 2 base error on weak grounder to Ross Gload.
  2. Wow should be an exciting series coming up after the break since it's the Detroit Tigers coming to town. Sadly, we all know these guys always play close games, and the Tigers know they can beat the Sox more than anyone else this year. I'll be at the game on Friday for what better be a White Sox winner. Maybe they'll win them all. Here are the questions: 1) Who will win the series (CHW/DET/Split) (2 points)? 2) Will Konerko have a multi-hit game on his bobblehead day (Friday) (Y/N) (2 points)? 3) How many errors will the Sox make (4 points)? 4) Who will lead the Sox in OBP for the series (4 points)? 5) How many hits will Joe Crede have for the series (5 points)? 6) What will Magglio's batting average be after the series (.003 either way) (5 points)? 7) How many appearances will Billy Koch make in the series (4 points)? 8) Will Flash Gordon get a save (Y/N) (2 points)? 9) Will the Sox be in second place after the series (Y/N) (2 points)? 10) Will a Detroit starter get a win (Y/N) (2 points)? TIEBREAKER: How many total pitches will Sox starters throw?
  3. Kielty has done more for the team this year than Cuddyer, Mohr, and whoever else they run out into the rotating OF spot. He's been playing alot of DH and hitting leadoff lately...which is not really his best spot IMO.
  4. We should just ban this board from looking at our schedule optimistically. We looked at our ez April schedule and we sucked. Then our ez schedule before the break and we sucked. I think its pretty clear we can't take anyone for granted cheering for this team.
  5. I'm guessing one of those reasons is...What do they need with another f***in outfielder?
  6. More than 1 American dies per day in the US. I think its safer to live in Iraq right now.
  7. Good HR Derby, Great Game, and it didn't rain!! I'd say a good week for the Sox and USCF showing everyone a good time in Chicago.
  8. He totally laid into that 3-1 fastball by Gagne. It's refreshing to see a young guy like Hank step into a huge pinch-hit all star game and crush a go-ahead HR like that. Wow. This guy is gonna do somethings before his career is done.
  9. When Ichiro brought Boone's bat up I had this feeling they were gonna do the Cerrano/Tanaka blindfold routine from Major League 2. It was fun watching him swing and miss on that one pitch.
  10. Yeah I remember that game too. But the one I had Ice Hockey was an Olympic hockey game and I always picked 4 fat guys and made them from Czechoslovakia for some reason that was my favorite team. Anyways if you really wanna play NES you guys should just do a search for "NES Emulators" and "NES ROMS" on google and just download whatever the heck you wanna play. I remember me and sideshow would be playing Mike Tyson's Punch Out for hours every night freshman year. I swear its a helluva lot easier than tracking down old cartridges which are prolly gonna start selling at antique prices soon.
  11. I don't think Pujols will ever walk that many times or hit that many homers. I guess thats why I tried to phrase him as the best all-around hitter. Almost all of the homeruns he hit were between left center and right center. He utilizes those fields and is damn near impossible to strike out. And he's all of what, 23 years old?
  12. GA and Pujols looked to have the two most effortless swings of all the derby participants. That's why I think these guys didn't show the signs of being nearly as tired as guys like Giambi or Sosa of years past. I still think Giambi's effort at the end of the 2nd round was probably the best show of the night. This guy had just hit 12 HR in the first round and its tough to come up there when you see a 14 spot on the board in front of you. I think he hit like 7 or 8 of his homeruns that round after he had 8 outs.
  13. It sounds alot like this Hockey game I had with the creative title "Ice Hockey".
  14. Not that this needs to be said but, is there any doubt that Albert Pujols is the most talented all around hitter in the league right now?
  15. I saw a poll on ESPN.com that included LVP or least valuable player for each league. There were 5 AL players and 5 NL players. Koch and Konerko are BOTH on the poll. I think that shows how valuable they have been so far.
  16. Is some Fire Jerry stuff really going on this time? I'm seeing an inordinate amount of people who claim to have rumors from "inside". Is it the real deal this time? About damn time I'd say. On those other boards they are throwing the name Jim Fregosi around alot.
  17. http://espn.go.com/mlb/allstar03/s/2003/07...14/1580480.html Zito is pretty pissed. Apparently Macha, Peterson, and Billy Beane said that Zito could not pitch in the All Star Game so he was taken off the team. Clemens was taken in his place. The only reason I am not ok with this is because Zito had absolutely no say in the decision whatsoever. Other than that it is good to allow Clemens one last All Star appearance.
  18. 1959 just remember 1959...the last time a Sox player could say he did the same thing Esteban will be doing Tuesday night.
  19. Something tells me Carlos Lee wants to refocus. He gets alot of heat for his DP grounders and occasional poor situational hitting. He has improved alot on his mental game this year I must say: His baserunning: He steals more than one could expect and rarely gets caught...Gets great jumps/reads on passed balls too. His fielding: Makes almost all the routine plays and a few fantastic ones a month. Is learning to play the caroms better and rarely misses the cutoff man even though he doesn't have the strongest arm. His hitting: Still has lapses where he tries to pull everything. The walk numbers seem to be improved and he seems to approach late-inning pressure ABs as well as anybody on this team. Seeing him go deep the opposite way against the Cubs was a beautiful sight too. Consistency at the plate is CLee's biggest problem. Then again on a given day he won't know if he's batting 3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th or benched. He is a gamer and never complains about the fans or other team mates. Always is hard on himself when he makes a poor play. I understand that people want to trade him, he's shown himself to be basically this .270 hitter with decent pop. I, for one, will be sad to see him go. He is one of my favorite Sox players and a bright personality in a clubhouse where there are few to be found. Ok thats all for my salute to El Caballo. I hope 24 other Sox players also have a hot 2nd half...Maggs is lookin awesome lately too
  20. Yankees don't want Botch. At least thats what came out of the NY Post. Also someone on WSI boards said that "7 games behind the Royals is like 3 games behind anyone else". This is true, KC cannot be expected to play this hot the rest of the year. But the Sox need to get their mental focus back on each game THEY play. Greg Walker is working hard at this talking about the "mental letdown" in Detroit and Tampa Bay following the big sweep of Minnesota. I think if more of these guys start listening to Greg everyday, we will make some noise in the 2nd half.
  21. I think Porzio will stay in until he has a terrible outing. I'll admit he looked sharp enough to be a fifth starter on Saturday.
  22. Dun worry BigHurt, like Jerry the lineup changes every day. You could be benched today and the winner next week. abozichiu, i understand "loser" is harsh but i am really not creative enough to come up with another term.
  23. Wow guess what guys?? This team WINS GAMES when we hit 3 run homers. We should hit one (or two) every day.
