4/7 Kansas City Royals @ Chicago White Sox 1:05 CDT - CSN
JorgeFabregas replied to qwerty's topic in 2009 Season in Review
Fields RBI. Dye out at home. Bah. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 12:21 PM) His BABIP was .268. That's well below league average. And his G/F and HR ratios are a little troubling for a guy that had average at best K/9. Like I said, I hope I'm worrying over nothing. What was his BABIP in the second half?
-
Sabathia was real bad to start last season, too. Had like a 12 ERA through his first 4 starts. It ended up being one of his best seasons.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 12:11 AM) I hope you guys are right about Floyd. But I worry about him a lot more than I do Mark or even John. I'm definitely not one to obsess over stats. But his 2008 screams fluke. I pray to god I'm wrong. Because we've got no chance if he doesn't at least match what he did last year. Look at his numbers for the second half. He was above 3:1 for his K:BB. Sure, his first half was incredibly flukey, but his second half was legit.

Redmond hurt his groin and may be out as well.

I think the Twins are a pretty clear #1 in terms of rotation. However, I think the Sox have the second best rotation and second best lineup--while the Twins' lineup may be the worst in the division. If the Sox' defense is decent (which is no sure thing), then they should have a good shot at winning the division.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) Watch him cut some sort of a deal like Jamal Lewis where he serves a good portion of his jailtime in the offseason. Honestly I think that a Plax move is going to be extreme boom or bust He had the opportunity to make a deal and, against the advice of his lawyers, turned it down because he does not want to serve any jail time. That's one reason why he was finally cut.

QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 08:32 AM) Is the guy on the far right Alesi? If so, why is he wearing the wrong helmet. Flipped image to make it fit. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 09:14 AM) Its a shame they canceled the game today. I've been to games in far worse conditions. Tomorrow will be better supposedly, but just a hair. I feel for those who got screwed by this, but don't blame the White Sox for canceling yesterday. I think they need to walk away from Mr. overestimate, Tom Skilling. He used to be the master, now he just is extreme. Tomorrow is supposed to be high thirties and sunny: http://www.weather.com/outlook/homeandgard...from=hrly_graph

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
JorgeFabregas replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
They think it's too much pressure. I don't. I think being a starting infielder for the Chicago White Sox puts pressure on you--if you can handle that, then leadoff duties should be no sweat. Is he not going to feel pressure batting 2nd? -
Buddy 'll fix 'em.

Dewayne Wise Named Full-time Starting CF/Leadoff hitter
JorgeFabregas replied to Kalapse's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The problem is not just with Wise leading off--the problem is also that he is our starting centerfielder. How do you know it won't cost the White Sox the division? If it costs them a game, then it could cost them the division. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) BA and Wise now have the same batting average this spring. I think BA has the higher slugging and OBP, and is the superior defender, so it makes perfect sense Wise gets the job. Wise actually has a higher SLG--BA has much higher OBP. It works out to BA having a slightly higher OPS. You would think that the tiebreaker would be BA's 6 outfield assists (he has the most of any outfielder in MLB ST this year). But no--the tiebreaker is Wise's grindiness. -
Mr Angelo, please trade for Jay Cutler!

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 10:25 PM) Think about the possibility of this being the rest of our offseason: -Sign Pace, Holt, and Lucas. -Trade our 1st and 3rd this year, a conditional pick in 2010 that can become a 1st rounder (automatically a 2nd or 3rd round pick no matter what), Orton, and one of Vasher, McBride or Graham (whichever one Denver feels would be the best fit, I think it would be Graham) for Cutler. I think/hope that would get the deal done. That's jizz worthy right there. Bears just signed Pace. Time to do some laundry. -
Pirates are playing a community college today.

Of course! Wait, no. Let's argue!

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) it's pretty even - you could make an argument for either, offensively speaking. Zero walks for Wise, but a higher slugging...kind of a choose your poison at this point. Offense - very close. Although Wise is a bit more flukey with the higher BABIP. Defense --BA has 6 assists. 6! -

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Mar 31, 2009 -> 01:41 PM) So, who's stepped up? By default...it's Wise. Who else could it be? Who out there is THAT much better? Obviously, both Swisher and Cabrera burned their White Sox bridges, so they are out. Pierre and GMJ, as I said, are expensive and don't have fantastic OBPs either. So, Kalapse...who? And can you tell me for sure that KW didn't kick the tires to see if they were available/teams could match up in a trade? I'm disappointed too, but Pods surprised all of us, and all of baseball, by having a good year. Who's to say Wise can't do the same for a year? He's never been a full-time anything...so don't give me his past numbers. Chris Getz. -
I sure hope at least one of those guys can be decent.

Hmm. Paging Mr. Beckham... -
I would not be surprised if Fields is the Sox' second-best hitter this year.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:31 PM) Should I worry that DWeezys' .341 spring BABIP won't maintain itself? Seems like he might be getting a little more lucky than BA's .289. But that's grindin' for ya. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 03:32 PM) No. That's a perfectly sustainable BABIP especially when you're as talented a hitter as Dewayne Wise. Great stuff.

I am wearing sack cloth.

I am interested in this idea that Wise "won" the job. What were the criteria? Edit: actually, he does have a higher OPS on the spring, but that's largely because they happend to announce it after his best day at the plate.
