  1. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Mar 1, 2018 -> 10:26 AM) We should do a monthly poll to see who we would pick if all candidates are available. I would love to see what the support is for each guy and how that changes in the next 4 months. I would make the poll myself, but I don't know how to so I would probably mess it up. I know my alligence has already shifted from Nander to Gorman since the winter.
  2. And then when I went to submit this post, it went BACK to that error message with the white background, so I assumed the post didn't go through, so I hit the BACK button and hit submit again, and then tried a 3rd time. Obviously that resulted in 2 copies of this thread being made. Ugh.
  3. No idea where to even put this thread, but it took me some random deletion of some words in the URL to even get this page to appear. For whatever reason, when I go to Soxtalk.com, the homepage loads but it now displays this message at the top.... "Warning: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected the timezone 'UTC' for now, but please set date.timezone to select your timezone. in /home/soxtalk/public_html/forums/init.php on line 269 Warning: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. I was able to start navigating the site once I started to delete "getnewpost" off the end of the URL. Now the page displays the topics and allows me to click through the site as normal, but still shows that same error message at the very top of the page. Any idea what's going? It does the EXACT same thing on Chrome, IE, and Edge. And even on my phone, when I'm not even on the WiFi network.

  6. QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 11:17 PM) I didn't want to read too much into it because he might just be throwing a little harder knowing he only has two innings that day. My initial thought as well, but then again it was also his 1st appearance of the spring in very mild AZ temps. You would think he isn't maxing out velo yet.
  7. QUOTE (GermanSock @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:30 PM) I think kelenic would be a little too high, solid across the board but no special tool. Gorman would be nice, although I read the tigers want him at 1 ( makes sense, their system lacks power bats). I think one of the two HS shortstops or a pitcher would be most likely. I'm not speaking as if the draft was today. Those are the guys I hope to fall in to our positions. Seth Beer, for instance, isn't likely to fall to our 2nd RD pick TODAY, but I'm rooting for an average season for him so he does slide a little, as I am rooting for Kelenic to dominate and move up to the top 5 range.
  8. Zavala with a 2-RBI single to LF with bases loaded. Elmore thrown out at 3B on the play. Sox lead 5-4.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 04:05 PM) Good news if if they sign Moustakas, he will offset Yoan's insane called looking totals. He really does need to learn how to protect Nope, he swung through it.
  10. Zavala chops it to the pitcher and he mishandles it. Runners on 1st and 2nd, Saladino is up.
  11. Ugh, Moncada strikes out on a pitch right down the middle on 3-2.
  12. Avi singles, Palka PR, moves to 2B on a pick off error. Then Gillaspie singles him home. 4-1 TEX.
  13. Where has Gavin Sheets been? Has he played at all for us?
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 28, 2018 -> 07:03 AM) Isn't A. Thomas a huge favorite as the 2nd round pick? Honestly have no idea.
  15. Still rooting for Gorman (Kelenic if Gorman has been drafted) as our 1st RD pick, Beer or Gray Jr as our 2nd RD pick.
  16. QUOTE (zisk @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 02:32 PM) I would imagine there were less fat players to be picked. I don't blame the Sox for picking who they thought was best but risk comes in all shapes and sizes. Risk comes in all shapes and sizes......but especially fat. ???
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 03:44 PM) Hector Santiago really cruising through the Cubs on paper. 3 IP 0H 0BB 3K. Any idea how velcocity and stuff looked? Stuff looked very good. Tons of swings and misses on his fastball. He is the most impressive pitcher I've seen this spring. Yeah, Kopech was great too, but Kopech got away with relying on his fastball velo. Hector had good control and movement. No idea about velocity, as they didn't mention it on WGN at all.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) Cordell had a leadoff single in the first, nothing else. Cordell walked on 4 pitches.
  19. QUOTE (zisk @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 01:09 PM) 3 #1 picks in 2 years. 2 season ending injuries and a complete bust of a catcher. what a rebuild. It had to be said. Oh for f***'s sake. Just log off, pal.
  20. Rodon, sure. Anderson, I guess. Fulmer? What? I don't know anyone who really gave him credit as a top prospect, even post-draft.
  21. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 27, 2018 -> 02:04 AM) I think the premise behind signing Moustakas would be to secure 3B for the long term future so I can understand the willingness for people to sign him. But for CarGo, really don't see a point. I actually hope the Sox don't sign CarGo. The dude is probably a 2-2.5 WAR player over the next few years. I'd like to think we can do better than that, either by obviously going after Machado/Donaldson/Rendon/Arenado in FA, acquiring a good 3B via trade (Kyle Seager, Suarez, Chapman?), or finding a veteran stop gap until Burger/Gorman is ready. There are a lot of really good 3B on the FA market coming soon. We have a chance at 4 superstars and the Sox have a TON of money to spend. Go big.
  22. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 11:47 PM) Holland didn't cost a draft pick and slot money. Two completely different animals. Yep, exactly. I want the Sox to sign CarGo, but stay away from Moose, for that exact reason.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 10:26 PM) Don't be fooled by Feb/March Arizona-induced power...especially OPPO. The Anderson homer the other day would have been a routine flyout in every park other than Fenway. Does Gillaspie not have big power?
  24. Gillaspie has some big power. Just flicked a ball just short of the warning track opposite field in left. Resulted in an out, but that's 2 AB and 2 deep drives.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 26, 2018 -> 04:44 PM) So it also sounds like Basabe is pronounced like Wasabi, but with a B at the beginning? That's how I've always heard it pronounced by Jim Callis and other prospect guys.
