2017-2018 NHL discussion thread

QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Feb 9, 2018 -> 09:30 AM) We're probably better off just rooting for the losses to start piling up at this point for better lottery odds and hoping the ping pong balls fall their way. It feels really s***ty and painful, but I think you're right. I just keep holding out hope that "Yeah, but when Crawford comes back maybe!".....and they just keep....f***ing....losing. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 10:23 AM) Pretty harsh if you ask me. (yes I know it is a typo) More like Evan Get-Ass, amirite? -
KATOH doesn't particularly like our prospects

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 12:41 PM) About all I like out of it is to see guys I hadn't really noticed before. That's all I get out of it as well. I like to see who had great statistical years, but aren't considered top prospects. Everything else, any names I recognize, I ignore. -
QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 03:39 PM) About a year ago I had the batteries in both of my vehicles die on the exact same day. Luckily I was at home when it happened, but I had to call someone for a ride to get new ones. Then we sold one of the cars to my oldest daughter and got another vehicle. The battery on that died last December. Then just a couple of weeks ago, one of the batteries that I had just replaced last year died. Luckily it was still under warranty so I got it replaced for free. So now we have 3 vehicles at our house all with fairly new batteries still under warranty. I always replace batteries in my car by myself, but last March my car was having issues that I didn't think was the battery. I got it towed to my mechanic and they told me it was just the battery, somehow. Then this winter my car wouldn't hold a charge. I had to trickle charge it every night for a month before I finally took the time to bring it to my mechanic. After he looked at it, he walked back in to the shop laughing and told the guys to put a new battery in my car for free. Well....turns out when I brought the car in last March, they charged me for a new battery but FORGOT to replace it. Left the old one in. Somehow I lasted another 9 months before I had any more issues with it. And luckily for him he's buddies with my family and we all go to him, or else I would have f***ing exploded. He gave me a free oil change for the troubles, and I sold my trickle charger to my dad.

Dave Duncan joins White Sox pitching staff
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to bmags's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This Kevin Towers quote from 2013 can probably be cut-and-pasted in to Hahn's statement on his role here as well... On November 13, 2013, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced they had hired Duncan to be a special assistant to general manager Kevin Towers as a pitching consultant. "With Dave, he's going to set his own schedule and it will depend on what he wants to do and what he's capable of doing", Towers commented of his role. "During spring training, be available to work with pitchers, catchers and pitching coaches as they're preparing for a game. Breaking down video of pitchers we might be considering for the draft. Plus, targeting guys in our system and getting his input – who he likes, who is close." -

This is outstanding. Honestly it's the most exciting bit of Sox news this entire offseason. Best acquisition thus far. -
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 12:36 PM) Must've missed it, but you have a Tesla? And how did the battery die, loss of charge or true failure? I doubt he has a Tesla if he is getting a new battery at lunch.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 12:37 PM) Chili, not sure how you are so shocked that Tesla is pushing out their production rollout again, they've been consistently late to deliver on every model. Not shocked it's delayed, shocked it's delayed by 6-8 months. The biggest reasons are apparently because they have now decided to make the Dual Motor variant BEFORE the Short Range battery (it was reversed), and they are also going to do international deliveries before that as well. So people in Canada saw their estimations MOVE UP 6-8 months. For being a Day 1 reservation holder, it's a real kick in the dick to suddenly drop to the very end of the priority line.

Cumulus Media trying to drop White Sox/Bulls from WLS

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 8, 2018 -> 10:43 AM) Was there significantly more White Sox talk on the Score than there is now when they had their games on there besides Rongey's show, which 98% of the people here hated anyway? Yes -

I wouldn't want to lose a draft pick to sign Moustakas, especially for a 1-year deal. -

QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 04:51 PM) It matters in terms of the direction of content. The Score rarely has White Sox players, coaches and front office members on unless it is Mully and Hanley in the morning. Spiegel and Parkins are both Cubs fans so they rarely talk about the White Sox and I’ve only heard B&G talk with the Sox twice since they started their show. And Julie DeCaro is a Cubs fan and won't ever talk Sox. She will even say things like "We got more baseball talk if you guys want to talk Cubs, or we can talk Bears, Bulls" etc. She openly requests topic points and rarely mentions the Sox. Likely because she doesn't know anything about the Sox, or cares to discuss them anyway. I text in from time to time just to give her s*** about her lack of acknowledgement for the Sox. Just to remind her. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 07:41 PM) Will you miss out on the tax credit? Provided I get the vehicle in 2018, I'll be eligible for $3750 of it. The $7500 phaseout may trigger in Q1 of this year, which would mean the $3750 would be in effect for Q3 and Q4.

Welp, it finally happened. Tesla slammed everyone with massive delays on their Model 3's today. The people who are getting the First Production versions (Long range battery, Premium Upgrades) only saw 2-3 month delays (They were already at the end of their December-February timeframe anyway), but people like me who wanted the Short Range battery got delayed 6-8 months!! Tesla INITIALLY gave me a December-February estimation back when they opened up their estimator last summer. Then that quickly changed to February-April, which I was fine with. Then it changed to "Early 2018" which I took to mean April-May. BUT NOW, it has changed again, but this time to "Late 2018", which I assume will mean October-December. 6-8 god damn months. The good news is that it gives me more time to save. I'll have at least another $4-6K saved by then. The bad news is obviously I have to wait EVEN LONGER for my car, but also HOPE my current car lasts me that long. I've been dying to ditch this 2004 Galant, as it's had so many small issues crop up over the last 18 months or so. Nothing major, but every day I cross my fingers that it's going to last me.

PECOTA projects Sox at 73 wins
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (FT35 @ Feb 7, 2018 -> 02:34 PM) Me too! I even took some crap on here for posting that I thought it was possible for us to win 72-75 games. I think one of these sites (ZiPS?) projected just over 60 wins and I think that's considerably lower than where they will be. There are too many horrific teams in our division to only win 60 games. I certainly wouldn't be surprised to see us be a bottom 3 team next year, I'm just banking on most of our young core take incremental steps forward this year, as well as solid debuts from Kopech and Eloy. -

Still prefer ESPN1000, so there could be more Sox talk during non-game times, but WGN would be my 2nd choice. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 6, 2018 -> 03:46 PM) I thought under $50 million you don't lose a pick anymore? The $50M rule only affects the team receiving the comp pick. If it's more than $50M, the comp pick is after the 1st RD. If it's less than $50M, the comp pick is after the 2nd RD. The team signing the player still loses a pick. -

Awesome, thanks for the heads up. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 09:11 AM) That is spectacular. Love to see the bonding between the players. I hope I am not just drinking the kool-aid, but it does seem these group of young players are WAY tighter than any group in the past. That could of course be because fans see all their social media interactions now, and see videos of them hanging out, but it just feels like they all have bonded. Of course nearly the entire team being very young in general probably also helps that.

I don't know if TLJ took the excitement out of me or what, but I'm not all that pumped about it. I'll watch it because it's Star Wars and Donald Glover, but otherwise I wouldn't mind if it was coming out in December instead of May, I'm just not anticipating it too much. Also, really don't like the choice of actor to play Solo. Other than an easy hairdo, he doesn't look convincing at all as a young Harrison Ford.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 12:59 PM) The MLB The Show 18 trailer featured, by my count, 0 White Sox players- but don't worry, a solid 75% of the video was Aaron Judge, Trea Turner, and Marcus Stroman. https://twitter.com/MLBTheShow/status/960558707846217731 Judge and Stroman are cover boys. Trea Turner? No idea, but he's cool.

QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 5, 2018 -> 01:33 PM) Big fan of Eric and Kiley. I'm surprised how low Kopech is on most of these lists. I agree. Kopech was #21 on the FG list in 2017. They also knocked down his FV change-up from a 60 to a 55. Did his change-up really regress? His present value on his control went from 30 up to 40. So he essentially didn't have his stock change in a year in which he did really good, if not great, in AA (walks an issue still), and also had 3 strong starts in AAA.

On #phillypolicescanner they are looking for a guy who just ran over a police officer on a 4-wheeler. He's being described as "a male in an Eagles jersey". Good luck with that.

QUOTE (AJUribe @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 03:47 PM) 2 words: Ichiro Suzuki. Still got plenty of tread on those tires. He's been negative fWAR 2 of the last 3 years. 75 OPS+ in 2018. He's bad now. -
QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 4, 2018 -> 07:13 PM) Eevn the squares gotta be exciting with all the missed conversions. Yup, it was chaos. I ended up winning $20 (but spent $27 total). My dad won $625.
