QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) I personally think a 4 year $50M deal gets Melky. I'll spend the extra mil or two on Melky vs Rasmus. Absolutely, but I think Melky gets more than $12.5M per year. I'd bet if it's 4 yrs, it will be $56-60M. I'd be comfortable with 4/$52M, $56M max.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 11:05 PM) I can honestly say, I'm really not a big fan of Rasmus at all, plus I don't think he's going to be as cheap some may think. If Billy Butler gets 3/$30, then I expect Rasmus to get somewhere around that if not more. I'd guess 4 years at $11-12M per. Better not be the Sox.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 03:53 PM) Slickdeals.net is your best resource Thanks for the link. Picked up 2 years of ESPN the Mag (which comes with Insider access) for like $7.80.

Can someone explain to me why I keep seeing Michael Saunders name all over this board? Why do people want him so bad? He looks like a worse version of De Aza, whom we all hated.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Dec 1, 2014 -> 07:29 AM) Newsroom a little too overdramatic for me last night. Only two episodes left. What a short final season, only 6 episodes. Only 2 left? s***, I had no idea. Yeah, last night's episode was the first dud of the season.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Remember when the Redskins offered the 5th overall pick and Rocky Macintosh for Briggs. That was in Briggs prime before his first contract dispute I believe. I'd take a 2nd for Cutler. I remember when the Redskins traded their 1st RD picks in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2nd RD pick in 2012 to my Rams to move up a couple spots to take RG3. The Rams then used some of Washinton's picks to pick up some more draft picks. In total, the trade looks like this..... Rams trades: QB Robert Griffin III Washinton trades: DT Michael Brockers, CB Janoris Jenkins, RB Isaiah Pead, G Rokevious Watkins, LB Alec Ogletree, WR Stedman Bailey, RB Zac Stacy, and OT Greg Robinson. Could this be the most lobsided trade in recent NFL history? -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 02:13 AM) Why would they want Anderson if they have their top prospect of a SS who is going to be ready to come up around the same time as Anderson. Anderson is a lot to give up for a 1 year rental PLUS other prospects? No thanks. The A's can keep their 3rd starter who will get paid Ace money in 1 year. I'll make a call to Cinci about thee starters or sign Masterson. Are you referring to Daniel Robertson? -

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Nov 30, 2014 -> 01:23 AM) $3M a year is a decent "home town discount", IMO. With ATL being out of the running, I'll be curious what that does for the Sox. Semien/Beck/Ravelo for Shark seems fair. That's funny you mention that because on another site I just said I'd be good with a move of Anderson, Semien, Beck, and Ravelo for Samardzija (plus extension) and Josh Reddick. -

I talked to Samardzija's cousin tonight, but he doesn't seem to have any info. All he really gave me a glimpse in to was that Jeff may take an extension for less than market value if it means he gets to stay near home and play for his childhood team. But he's just speculating. Maybe an extension of 5 yrs/$90M works instead of 5 yrs/$105M or something. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 01:51 AM) I don't think this guy is anyone but he didn't offer any context to this tweet: Danny Delamater @DeltaDood24 4h4 hours ago As trade samardzija to the white Sox for alexi ramirez and prospects Makes no sense unless we are signing a guy like Jed Lowrie or something where there is a step down from Alexei to Lowrie, but then a BIG step up by adding Samardzija to the rotation. But even then, I'd be leery of adding any more than a 1 for 1 swap, unless it's a low level prospect like Beck or something. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) Yeah, not sure I would do it either. I'm just not a huge Samardjiza fan. If Rick is gonna deal for an impact pitcher he should be younger and controlled, IMO. Would like to see Hahn make a deal for Jesse Chavez. Gillaspie and Micah Johnson for him? -

QUOTE (South Sider @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:43 AM) This is exciting! Sounds a lot like a 3 team trade is coming together... and here I thought we'd have to wait til December for the real excitement to begin! Well, December is 2 days away, so I wouldn't be surprised if we did have to wait until then. Winter Meetings is my favorite time of the offseason. I watch MLB Network all day and stay glued to Twitter. -

QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:37 AM) I'd love if the Sox could get Arenado, but I realize the Rockies won't want to trade him. I would have said the same thing about Donaldson, so who the hell knows. Arenado would be an awesome acquisition. -

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:25 AM) FWIW, you guys are right. A lot going on. The next week or two will be very active. Rick and Beane have been in talks all week. Dodgers cooled off. Still heavy talks with Reds and Rockies as well. Rockies? For a position player for pitcher? I wonder if I could nail my Drew Stubbs guess from a month or two ago. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 29, 2014 -> 12:18 AM) Yeah real odd, but they do get Lawrie back who could be a good piece and cost effective. Lawrie could be a decent player if he could stay on the field. Has only played more than 110 games once so far. -
Campana is Scott Podsednik without the contact skills. Meh.

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 28, 2014 -> 10:13 PM) From what I'm reading Barreto is a very nice prospect....only 18 and hit very well in low A already. Donaldson is super 2 eligible and will start to get expensive after this year so I can kinda see why they would look to move him. Though his contract is still very reasonable so I probably would have let him play out another year to see if he can come closer to his 2013 #'s to maximize his value. The surprising part is the move to sign Butler, then the opposite side of the spectrum by trading Donaldson. It's the equivalent of those Sox fans who want the Sox to trade Alexei after we signed LaRoche. -
So Interstellar was really good until that weird 5th dimension library s***. People in the theater was laughing at loud at how stupid that whole thing was. Also, I did not expect the movie to be so sad at parts. I'll admit, I had tears in my eyes when he was watching the videos from his kids. Here is how was hoping it was going to end. Overall I liked it, but it really made it hard for me to take it seriously during that last 30 minutes or so.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 10:14 PM) That seems excessive for a career below average pitcher, but gotta take chances somewhere He had 2 really solid years, a handful of average years, and 1 really bad year. The dip in velocity certainly is concerning though. 3 MPH is a big drop off which means he either is hurt, or he changed his mechanics and lost speed, and maybe it's something he can change back to. It would be much easier to hate him if he had been losing 0.5-1.0 MPH each season for the past few years. The sudden big drop is confusing.

Alright, I'll throw out a massive trade that will never happen. Let's go with a crazy 3-way.... White Sox acquire: OF Mookie Betts, SP Ian Kennedy Red Sox acquire: SP Frank Montas, SP Chris Bassit, SP Tyson Ross, RP Nate Jones, SS Franchy Cordero Padres acquire: 3B Conor Gillaspie, OF Yoenis Cespedes White Sox trade: 3B Conor Gillaspie, SP Frank Montas, SP Chris Bassit, RP Nate Jones Red Sox trade: OF Yoenis Cespedes, OF Mookie Betts Padres trade: SP Ian Kennedy, SP Tyson Ross, SS Franchy Cordero And then the Sox sign McCarthy for 3 yr/$36M with a 4th year team option for $15M, $3M buy out.

QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) I would guess the thinking goes the upgrade from Viciedo to Kemp is larger/more significant than the downgrade from Alexei to Semien/whomever. It's much easier to replace a LF spot than a SS spot. SS is the most important position on the field and the hardest to replace and find good talent for. LF is one of the easiest positions to replace. It's like trading your QB to acquire a good FB. -

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Nov 27, 2014 -> 10:30 PM) . They haven't said that and they certainly haven't acted that way. What they said is they will put a competitive team on the field. And that they won't harm the long term plan in the process. They have taken a measured approach and gone after relatively inexpensive upgrades. If they were all in it would have been serious offers for v mart , Sandoval, miller and at least shields. I think they need several more moves And hope they make them. I just don't believe that those moves should include trading young talent for veterans. Signing a 35-year-old DH is about the biggest "WIN NOW" move they could have ever made. Rebuilding teams don't spend like that on aging assets that aren't easily moveable in a "flip for prospects" scenario like you can easily do with pitchers, and sometimes OFers. -
Watched St. Vincent tonight. I thought it was decent. I'm not really a fan of those types of movies that don't have a plot. Glad I didn't pay to see it. We are seeing Interstellar at iMAX tomorrow, so that should be fun/long.

Why do people still want Alexei traded after we signed LaRoche, which is a clear "win now" move? How do plan to contend by creating a hole at SS? I'm curious how people could think that would work.
