QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 08:46 AM) So in the case of a white athlete, if he had good grades in college, he must be smart but if the athlete is black, we need to question his intelligence, is that right? BigSqwert, I'll put the avy on later when I get on my PC. Uhhhh, no, not even close. We question his intelligence because he does s*** like he did yesterday on TV, and previously on TV before. He acted like a big idiot, that's why we question his intelligence. -

CC Sabathia looks like he lost like 50 pounds this offseason, wow. -
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 11:38 PM) Let's say the Sox don't land Tanaka which is a very realistic possibility, any ideas as to what Hahn might try next ? By going after Tanaka they've shown they have money to spend on the right player tho this doesn't mean they will spend it. I ask because I haven't given it any thought since the Tanaka rumors picked up and the subject of Castro has been beaten up pretty good. I'm okay with losing out on Tanaka if it means we then sign Garza, Jimenez, Burnett, or Richard. Then trade Erik Johnson and De Aza for a catcher.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) I don't personally think he's a better pitcher than most of those guys though. I agree with raBBit that it's selling high, which is what you like to do. I think he's closer to a 3 WAR starter, while those guys I all view as 4 WAR starters. There's not a huge difference, but it's there. In any given year, though, those can change depending on which way the wind is blowing. If we don't land Tanaka, then I am good with moving Quitana, because I don't think we'd be close enough to compete. But if we DO get Tanaka, then I want that front 4 of the rotation in tack, then you trade off extra assets to fill our last real big hole, catcher.
-
I keep coming to this bumped thread for Tanaka news, and then I go home disappointed.
-
Jose Quintana put up a 3.7 WAR last season. That's top 25 in baseball. He was in the same rankings as Madison Bumgarner, Homer Bailey, Patrick Corbin, and Jordan Zimmerman. These are all very good #2 type pitchers. I don't know if Erik Johnson will ever get there, but he certainly won't get there in the near future.
-
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 03:48 PM) Not that I should get ahead of myself, if we signed Tanaka, Quintana should be the guy to go. Not Erik Johnson. I don't think so because we are only HOPING that Erik can be as good as Q eventually. On a rebuilding team that is a few pieces away, okay, I get dumping the better talent for the better haul. But if we add Tanaka, we are honestly just a catcher away from being a possible contender. And if you trade Q to get that catcher, the you've made a new hole somewhere else. And for a team on the cusp, you don't get anywhere by moving holes around.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 03:08 PM) Mark Gonzales is going to be on MLB Hot Stove to discuss both Chicago teams. I'll let you know what he says. When?
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 20, 2014 -> 02:01 PM) Frankly, if the Sox sign Tanaka, I have no problem dealing Johnson plus leftovers for Castro. The rotation is Sale, Tanaka, Quintana, Danks, Rienzo/Surkamp/Paulino. You have 2 additional starters and all 3 #5 guys have a bit of upside. That's manageable. Definitely. And that's exactly what I'm hoping will happen. And if it does, I am suddenly reasonably optimistic for 2014.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 10:32 PM) 2 seconds into the Vancouver/Calgary game, a line fight and 142 penalty minutes. Sedins not involved. Haha, I saw that. That was hilarious. Roenick made a good point though, Vancouver should have just started their 1st line and just took it to them and scored. You don't have to fight them. Let them get the penalty and score on their ass. But a line fight is always highly entertaining, so it's hard to be mad about it. -

Richard Sherman is a piece of s***. He may somehow be book smart, but he appears to have 0 social skills. From Pete Carroll to Sherman, the Seahawks are such an unlikable team. Sorry Golden Tate and Macklemore, I just can't bring myself to root for those scumbags. -
QUOTE (Lillian @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) Here is an article on Chicago's Asian population: http://goldsea.com/Air/Issues/Chicago/chicago.html Unfortunately, it's mostly Chinese Ssshhhh, maybe he won't notice they're Chinese.

I'm hoping they do a bunch of White Sox webcasts. Last year they did something like...12 games? And then CSN had like 5, and then WGN had a couple, then ESPN had 1 too I think.
-
Oh, and that new show on FX, called Chozen, with the cartoons, is f***ing HILARIOUS. Danny McBride and Jody Hill are executive producers on it, so of course it's great.
-
Shameless was great. I nodded off a few times during True Detective. The show is pretty slow and quiet so far.

Some random poster on MLBTR's discussion says a "little birdie told him" that the Sox offered 4 yrs/$100M, and thus are the 1 team that "nearly" offered OVER $100M like the report said. It makes sense too, as you'd figure the Yankees/Dodgers/Cubs would be bidding a lot, the DBacks are apparently at $120M, so that leaves the Sox and Slick Rick trying to get creative with a deal. 4 yrs/$100M with maybe 2 player options, or vesting options, or something. I thought before it was highly unlikely the Sox would ever win this bidding war, but if they did, it would have to be with a creative deal. I stick by that. No way we outbid, but maybe we outsmart.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 19, 2014 -> 01:29 AM) Penis jokes and it's spelled like Sox. Oh....ok.
-
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 11:35 PM) If the Sox sign Tanaka they're going to need a nice new marketing slogan (please send Boyer out for coffee while this is being decided) They're going to need something good I say if we get Tanaka & also trade for Jason Castro without giving up Q then I'd a good new slogan would be "Hey it's the Sox. Pull out your Cox." Or something like that. SWomething with Cox in it. I don't get jokes. What is the significance of "Cox"?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 18, 2014 -> 01:30 AM) Basically, if you keep on hacking computers even after the main storyline is over. Oh, you meant in AC4. I haven't finished the game yet. Because you said the word hacking, I assumed you were talking about Watchdogs and was confused how you played any of it yet.
-
I thought Jeremy Reed was the future of CF. I thought Josh Fields was a big time slugger. I loved the Dunn signing. I hated the McCarthy/Danks trade, I actually shed a tear in anger (Bmac was my 15-year-old self's favorite player). I thought Matsuzaka was going to change baseball with his gyroball.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 04:47 PM) I'm still waiting for a Star Fox game. Also, AC4/Watch Dog spoilers: I don't understand what you mean by "If you continue hacking"...?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:38 PM) I thought Lip was at UC I think my mom (or dad?) said they saw something that said "Chicago Polytechnic" on it when Lip was working in the cafeteria. EDIT: Yeah, I just checked the episode. The centerpieces on the cafeteria tables as well as a sign in the cafeteria says "Chicago Polytechnic" on it.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 10:47 AM) And playing well too. He had a .297/.390/.511 slash with 23 HRs and 83 RBIs last year. And he made that Jose Iglesias play last year before it was cool.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 17, 2014 -> 08:12 AM) That's incredibly unfunny. Aww shucks.
