QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) You didn't watch the video did you? Of course I watched the video. Why would you assume otherwise? -
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 01:12 PM) Well, let me elaborate a bit. I made the trip with my oldest daughter who's like 31. We drove down the coast from Seattle to Los Angeles. That in itself was a blast. We took our time and stopped and walked on beaches and saw lighthouses and what not. Took our time again through the Big Sur and walked around amongst the giant Sequioas. Then we spent an afternoon in San Francisco. Being the old hippie type I had to see the Haight Ashbury area. We spent a little time at Malibu, drove through LA and went to Joshua Tree National Park, where we spent the day. I loved that area! Then, it was finally off to Arizona where I had never been before. I had never even seen a f***ing cactus. We stayed at a Best Western where we had a kitchen and we lived there for a month. It was better than having to eat out every day which would have cost a bundle. Basically we just went to the ballgames every day which I'm sorry I thought it was a blast. I've always thought spring training would be great if only to see the prospects that you otherwise mostly just read about. Plus, you're seeing your favorite team in a small ballpark setting. It's like seeing the Rolling Stones in a small club. My daughter got a ton of autographs and had her picture taken with some of her favorite players. To top it off, we're doing this while the rest of our family is still dealing with cold and snow (we came home unbelievably tan). A couple of days we went hiking in the mountain area which was a lot of fun and remember, all this with my daughter....it was father/daughter time. After spring training, we went to see as I said the Grand Canyon which neither of us had ever seen and also went to the Meteor Crater, El Morro National Monument, Petroglyph N'tl Mon., the Painted Desert, the Petrified Forest, Zion, Bryce Canyon and the Arches. We hiked a lot at most of these places and really had a lot of fun. Then it was up to the Salt Lake area where we stayed for several days with one of my sons who I hadn't seen in about a year and if we hadn't had enough baseball we went to a AAA game in Salt Lake. Finally it was back to Seattle. By the time we got home, we had been gone nearly two months. So it was probably the best TWO months of my life. I wish I could afford to do it every year. Can you be my dad?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:53 PM) So it appears that Sherman actually did want to shake Crabtree's hand after the interception: http://deadspin.com/sherman-crabtree-watch...p-hi-1507040069 Was there anyone who missed him sarcastically extending his hand out to him? We didn't need audio to tell he was trying to be a cockbag. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 09:12 PM) I'm confident that EJ can match Hector and a healthy Danks can match Peavy. Considering Hector was on pace for about a 2 WAR pitcher in a full 32 start season, I think it's possible that EJ could match that over a full season, even though he was pretty bad in his 5 starts last year.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 03:19 PM) They are your opinion. You can't factually prove someone's intelligence. FWIW, his wonderlic score was 24. Also, more definitions! comment: : a spoken or written statement that expresses an opinion about someone or something observations: a statement about something you have noticed : a comment or remark THOSE STATEMENTS ARE STATEMENTS, NOT FACTUAL STATEMENTS Right....and it's MY OPINION that he looked like an idiot....what is so hard to grasp here? -
Red Sox sign Grady Sizemore
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to Al Lopez's Ghost's topic in The Diamond Club
So the Red Sox sign both Grady Sizemore and his lesser known brother, Brady Sizemore? Wow, nice day for their mom, Lady Sizemore. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 04:40 PM) You catch more s*** every time you watch it. Jonah Hill is awesome IMO. Speaking of Jonah Hill and the Wolf of Wall Street, not only did Jonah demand that he have to audition for a part in the movie, but he accepted "the lowest possible pay" he could for the movie. He made something like $60K for this movie! http://www.avclub.com/article/jonah-hill-w...oney-pos-107191 Hill said if he is making great movies, he is fine just being able to pay rent and have a family.

So the Yankees are paying $175M over the course of 7 years, or about $25M a year if you spread it out evenly...... Good f***ing luck, jackwagons.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 22, 2014 -> 08:32 AM) Came off like an idiot = more or less calling him an idiot Your impression of him after that interview is that he's an idiot. Thus, you thought he was an idiot. Thus, you thought he was a stupid person. Thus, you thought he lacked intelligence. /mathproofs Smart people can act dumb, dumb people can act smart, what about that is making it so hard to understand? I've had to say this way too many times for this simple concept to sink in. I have no idea is Sherman is smart or stupid, all I know is that of what I've seen of him, he's ACTED stupid and has LOOKED like an idiot. Those comments are observations, not factual statements. -
My pick right now for sure is Hoffman. Jackson would be nice if he could stick at catcher.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 05:20 PM) You more or less called him an idiot. The definition of idiot is "a stupid person." The definition of stupid is "lacking intelligence or common sense." So there you go. I did? If you could quote where I said that, it would be helpful. Thanks. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:17 PM) Depends on what you're studying. You can get away with just trying hard in a lot of fields. However, you can't tell me that a theoretical physicist from MIT is where he is just because he tried hard. It's a combination of effort and intelligence. Ok, that's valid. But theoretical physicists from MIT can still act like idiots, making people superficially question their intelligence. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:10 PM) But I still want someone to give me evidence that Sherman is not intelligent. I haven't seen anything to indicate that assessment. And I'll wait here for you to tell me where I said he is unintelligent. -

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 04:04 PM) If you get good grades you are stupid if you get bad grades you are smart. Its the argurement iget from all of the applicants we deny. I went ot a better school, my professors were unfair, my family had problems, im smarter than people with better grades but i dont do well on standradized tests...... Most people people just dont want to admit that they cant compete with others on an intellectual level. Not that the grades make someone a better or worse person or makes them more effective at their occupation. Nope, no one said that. I just graduated with a 3.5 GPA in college, but that doesn't prove I'm smart, it just says that I tried. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) Insiders have already said it is Tanaka or nothing. They aren't interested in any of the second tier starters. Damn. Was really hoping to flip one of those signings at the break for some 'spects.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:55 PM) I'm still waiting for your foolproof evidence that he is in fact a dumb person. Oh my f***ing facepalm. At this point you are just trolling. That can only the be answer for your blatant disregard for reading comprehension. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:47 PM) Then why can't it just be "I hate that dude. He's so damn cocky." It immediately goes to him being unintelligent with falsified grades in school. I just said he CAME OFF LIKE AN IDIOT in all these TV outbursts I've seen. And he is a cocky asshole and I hate him. And I also said NOTHING about falsifying any grades in school. I said grades don't mean everything because it's often more about effort, and there have been many dumb people who get good grades and smart people who get bad grades. But no, it's easier for you to just say I hate black people I guess. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:04 PM) MLB Network keeps talking about the smaller ball in Japan. I did not know this until the Tanaka deal came up. I have heard in the past that they have larger seams than MLB. Wonder if size counts. In Japan, size doesn't matter.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Based on everything I've seen written by Richard Sherman and comparing it to the drivel you write in here, it's obvious who the one lacking in intelligence is. Slow clap for responding and not trying to accuse someone of being racist. -

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 03:12 PM) Translation: Cocky black people are not intelligent. Actual proof of good grades from a prestigious University be damned. Dude was the salutatorian in High School as well with a 4.2 GPA. For the love of god, stop trying to make this in to a race issue for f***'s sake. Jesus f***ing christ, people like you are annoying as f*** with that s***. He came off as not being intelligent BECAUSE HE f***ING LOOKED LIKE AN IDIOT. Whether or not he is actually smart is irrelevant because HE f***ING LOOKED LIKE AN IDIOT. Smart people can do dumb things. And in the event that he actually is smart, he is doing a terrible job at acting the part, because anyone objectively looking at his outbursts would severely question this guy's mental health and intelligence. You can shove that race card right back in your ass, thanks. -

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 08:29 AM) I'm done with this convo, you think he must be a "big idiot", good grades from a good school be damned. I think he's a loud, arrogant and yes, smart dude who acted like a fool in the heat of the moment. To me, that doesn't necessarily mean he is a dumb person. But whatever, man. Call me crazy, but grades don't mean everything. You can be socially inept and come off like a gigantic idiot, even if you are really good at retaining information from your Anthropology classes. I know plenty of people who got terrible grades, but are actually really smart. And people who aren't every smart that got great grades. It's more about effort than intelligence. So yes, in the times I have seen Sherman on TV, my impression of him is that he is a big f***ing idiot who can't control his emotions and looks clinically insane. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2014 -> 09:12 AM) They aren't signing any of those guys by all indications. It is Tanaka, or no other pitchers. And what indications would those be?

Cool, just got about 10-12 inches dropped on us last night.
