  1. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) Well thank goodness we have you here to set everyone straight! Wouldn't want anyone getting too excited over nothing! The last thing we need here is people rioting when Tanaka signs somewhere else, thinking that we were right there in the thick of it. I'm pretty sure that's how you get cancer.
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 06:23 PM) "According to an industry source, both the Cubs and White Sox are still seriously in the hunt for the Japanese right-hander, along with the Yankees and Dodgers." Maybe reading the article next time would help. They were clearly just reiterating that we met them already just catch people up. Ooooooh, an industry source. That changes everything. So what number is going to wear for us? Will he be at Soxfest? A random industry source has this inside scoop apparently, someone tell the jersey manufacturers.
  3. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 05:34 PM) Just when I think I'm out, they pull me back in! The only "proof" they had of that was that the Sox publicly announced meeting with Tanaka. This article could have been written any day in the past week, there is nothing new in it. Just trying to temper enthusiasm over a sensationalized NY Post headline.
  4. Also, Blackfish was an incredible documentary. I've seen it twice and I can't stop telling people about it.
  5. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 05:28 PM) I feel like nobody outside of critics loved American Hustle. I finally went back and finished American Hustle, and I have to say, the last hour is infinitely better than the first hour. Overall it was a decent movie, but man, it was so terrible to get through in the beginning and then the ending was great,
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) Alright stat nerds, tell me why fWAR is better than bWAR. Go To try and make this as short as possible, bWAR tells more about past performance, but fWAR tells more about future performances. It's more of a true talent indicator. Like for pitching, fWAR uses Fielding Independent Pitching numbers to figure in the calculation, whereas bWAR uses runs, and team wins. You get more outliers it seems with bWAR than fWAR. I think the large majority of the Sabr community would say that fWAR is the better number to use overall.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) Who gets the luxury tax money? The MLB, for "industry development". If they really wanted to dissuade people from going over the limit, they should make the luxury tax go to revenue sharing. Then maybe the Yankees/Red Sox would think twice before throwing a couple million to help out the Rays stay competitive.
  8. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 08:02 AM) Root, install Xposed Framework, and install NFC Screen Off Enabler (I think that's the name). You can have certain tags unlock your screen. NFC will only work within about an inch proximity. NFC is extremely useful in the car. Right now, I have it enabling bluetooth and unlocking my phone. Then when it connects to my car's bluetooth, it enables GPS, starts my music app, starts music playback, and opens up a car portal app so I can choose what Map app to open. I just put my phone on my dock and it does this all by itself. No more messing with my phone for a minute before starting my drive. I'm too worried about doing it incorrectly and jacking up my phone to ever root it though. Always considered, never had the guts to try it.
  9. Referring back to that prospect's digest rankings....holy crap do they like Semien. They think he could peak around a 4-4.5 WAR player. Do you guys know the last time we had a 4.5 WAR player? Carlos Quentin in 2008 when he could have very easily been the MVP sans-anger issues.
  10. Just now finding out what NFC tags are and am really interested in splitting a pack of them with my brother. If these things were able to be used with the screen off, and had like a 3 foot range instead of a 3 inch range, they would be immensely useful. Instead I'll use a couple and see how they do.
  11. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 16, 2014 -> 01:21 AM) Jerry isnt going to pay Dunn 14M to play for another team and Dunn really isn't worth much regardless how much money we send. One option might be a straight dump by placing Dunn on waivers like Toronto did with Rios and hope a team claims him. I'm not saying this should be done but it is an option. Of course for all we know the Sox have tried, lol. Yeah, at this point unless some team is willing to pay like 90% of his contract, and that money saved allows to add a pitcher like Garza, Jimenez, Burnett, or someone, then I'd rather just hold on to Dunn and try to move him at the deadline to a team who needs a power boost for the stretch run and doesn't mind eating the $5M or whatever remaining on the deal.
  12. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 06:21 PM) And here they are... http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2014-zips-p...cago-white-sox/ Surprising to see them give Sale such a boost in WAR. That 5.7 WAR will get him some serious Cy Young consideration. Usually it's about the 6 WAR level that makes you a contender.
  13. So Kershaw will have to average a 5-6 WAR every year for the remainder of the contract to be worth it. He has averaged about 5.5 so far in his first 5 full seasons. So he will have to be the same pitcher for the next 7 years. It's possible, but it requires him to be healthy throughout. That will be the question mark.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 04:49 PM) The first graf isn't a theory, it is just symbolism. No secret there. Hadn't thought about the Heaven angle, that's sort of interesting. But I don't think that is what they were going for. They weren't, they were going for the rebirth angle. I caught all of it except for the Evolution thing.
  15. Did anyone who watched The Blacklist catch who that actor was who played the mole in the FBI?
  16. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 15, 2014 -> 09:46 AM) What theories are there as to what actually happened? Did I miss something? Serious question. Well the theory that the director actually wanted us all to realize is Bullock's "rebirth" towards the end of the movie. The scene where she is floating in the fetal position with the tether acting as her umbilical cord, her crawling out of the mud (primordial soup), walking on 4 legs, then 2 legs, then bent over, then erect, ala Darwin's theory of evolution. Those are the clues that were meant to happen. But others have thought maybe she died up in space, and the paradise island she happened to land next to was actually "Heaven", like in the show LOST. I REALLY wanted her to find a red shoe on the beach, so we'd know for sure that it was heaven and she'd be reunited with her daughter again. There are some other theories too if you google "Gravity ending explained" or something.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 11:13 PM) The Hawks have scored zero overtime goals in 15 OTs this season. Game 4 vs. Boston. Last OT goal.
  18. PS+ right now has added these free titles..... Devil May Cry, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and some others I've never heard of. They are also having a 14 for 14 sale right now. I just scooped up Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon for $3.75. It was normally like $20.
  19. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 10:46 PM) Hawks just cannot win a game with Crawford in net anymore. How many straight losses is that for Crawford? 6? I just looked it up. They haven't won in his last 7 starts. November 29th was his last win. Wow.
  20. Hawks just cannot win a game with Crawford in net anymore. How many straight losses is that for Crawford? 6?
  21. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 10:12 PM) http://rbigame.mlb.com/rbigame/home.jsp?pa...140115_17072494 I love anything that pushes The Show to be even better. I feel they got a little complacent the past couple years because they know 2K baseball was never going to cut in to their sales.
  22. I'm probably the exact opposite of a sneakerhead, but I'd buy these if they were like $50.
  23. QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 07:38 PM) I just realized tonight that I missed the Archer premiere. They aren't playing the episode again until next week, ugh. Do you live in 1997 or something? lol
  24. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 14, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Sign him to a minor league deal. I'd love to see him do well again.
  25. Saw Gravity last night and I thought it was quite good. Had a bit of a lull in the middle, and I like reading all the theories people have about what actually happened.
