Sox are interested in Volquez and Street

QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 06:52 PM) If Q pitches really well tonight, that will take his name off any trade list. I'd still trade him. I can't see him keeping this act up. Trade him while his value is so high. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 05:18 PM) Taken > The Grey > Unknown SAFETY NOT GUARANTEED, awesome...one of my 2-3 favorites of the year now. Ms. Plaza really grows on you. The next Ellen Page or the next Emma Stone, we'll see. Spliced in with a little Sarah Silverstone. She has a quality about her....hard to describe. She's not beautiful or conventionally, Hollywood-y "hottie," but she has something unique about her. I have a friend who is in love with her. He first loved her in Mystery Team, and then again in Parks and Rec.

Only a couple more days until Breaking Bad. Oh god!

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:56 PM) You lost me, Greg, wasn't it Rick Moranis who played Barney? IMDB is your friend. And yes, it was Rick Moranis. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109813/

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:30 PM) I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I agree. He looks more hipster than nerd.

Slow pitch softball thread
ChiliIrishHammock24 replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
I have seen a lot of guys come in from playing college ball and suck defensively. The ball comes off the bat differently, and they often get burned by flyballs over their head. So anyway, without my bat, I am so lost at the plate. I think it's more mental than anything else, but I was 1/3 last week, and was 0/2 yesterday. My average has dropped from .708 down to .621. -
QUOTE (Joxer_Daly @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 03:02 AM) Injecting chicken? Not something I'd heard of before, but sounds interesting. I like to try random stuff with food. Does much of the sauce actually stay in the meat, though? I would've thought it would just ooze back out once the syringe was removed. Some of it does ooze out of the meat, but a lot of it stays in. It's why you want to inject from the top of the meat, so gravity helps a little.

Friday the 13th Game Thread: Sox @ Royals!

Come one New Q, make it a good 2nd half as well. -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jul 13, 2012 -> 01:01 AM) I remember this article like it was yesterday. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft2009/i...tory?id=4206996 For once I wish what Keith Law said was true. (For those without Insider, KLaw had Sox picking Trout in his mock, which was a rarity since he always bashes Sox for taking safe college arms.) Kind of interesting that on the Angels pick he says "Angels would love to Trout fell to them here".....and then he did. It's hard to blame the Sox when a ton of other teams passed on Trout too. I mean, it's not like he was taken #2 overall, and the Sox had the #1 pick.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 08:20 PM) ...or marinade. For some reason, the cherry Dr. Pepper doesn't sound appealing. Probably better than it sounds...but ew. I don't even like Dr. Pepper, I was just interested in the idea of it. Here is his video....

Think the Sox will agressively push Walker up to W-S soon, or keep him in Kanny all year? He is 2/3 with a 2B, 3B right now. Batting .284 and a .400 OBP to go along with 39 SB. Only blemish is his K numbers still. 81 Ks which is around 27% K-rate.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 04:11 PM) fortunately the chicken comes with steroids already included! as for flavor injecting? seems like way too much work when you can just... put the sauce on top... In a sense yes, but using this method, the sauce cooks in to the meat, whereas saucing the top of it, the sauce sits on top of the meat. It really makes the meat very juicy. I saw a video online of a guy doing this with cherry Dr. Pepper, and that looked interesting.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) I think he's way closer to a #5 IMO. Since his All-Star 2008 season, he has not been anything special, and he doesn't have a history of pitching a lot of innings. Looking at his numbers, his only glaring issue is walks, and Cooper has a history of getting guys to throw strikes. I think he sounds like a pretty good project for Coop. This guy has #2 potential, he just hasn't seen it since 2008. As for the innings thing, he pitched 196 in 2008, 50 in 2009, 100 in 2010, 196 in 2011, and is on pace for 190+ this season. He missed those innings in 2009 and 2010 because he had TJS. -

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 02:22 PM) Experience doesn't always mean better. And Street is injury-prone. And calling Volquez a "quality" starter is a bit of a stretch. I would say Volquez is a solid #3-4 type starter. That's quality to me. -

I would certainly take Volquez. Walks seem to be his only issue. Strikeouts are high, hits allowed are low, and HRs allowed are good. His away splits are obviously worse, but they aren't terrible. I would not take Huston Street though. The guy makes way too much money to be our set-up man. Reed has been fine, no need to move him out of his future role. -
So I just did this yesterday for the first time in years. I was googling what techniques or sauces other people use, and I happen to find my old post from a different forum 6 years ago. So here are my instructions from when I was 16..... I used to have special injecting sauces, but now I just use whatever we have in our fridge. Frank's Red Hot is a great one to use. Barbeque sauces can be done, but they are thicker and can be hard to get through the syringe. This is the sauces we originally used, and the syringes we use. Not very expensive either. You can get a whole kit of stuff for $20. http://www.cajuninjector.com/cajun-injector-marinades.html

Best and Worst Sections, value in the park

QUOTE (ewokpelts @ Jul 12, 2012 -> 11:33 AM) If you're over 21, get an upper deck seat, and get the bullpen bar seats. Bullpen bar is free to enter for anyone over 21 holding a ticket for any seat in the park, right? -
Yeah, I feel like the Sox embrace the Irish heritage of the city more than the Cubs. Cubs have clothing with Irish stuff on it, but it seems the Sox have TONS of stuff w/ Irish stuff on it and we celebrate 1/2 way to St Patricks day, which I don't believe the Northside does.

Ayala to Bristol. -
What is this from? Did Joe Morgan or some dumb commentator say that Chapman or Strasburg pitches at the speed of light or something?

This, by a mile. And then Doritos Cool Ranch and stuff is up there too.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 12:08 PM) He's not on the 40-man roster so that won't happen this year. Maybe in a year or two regarding pinch running. He isn't close to big league ready otherwise. Doesn't mean he couldn't be added though, I feel like the Sox 40-man is always around like 38 players.

Joe Buck - "The majority of the votes went to Melky Cabrera" Actually, no, Joe, 38% is not the "majority" of the votes. What you mean to say is that Melky had the largest share of the votes. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) He could really bat for anybody in the 9th, given the near-zero chance that there would be a 10th inning requiring him to play a position. Good point, maybe he'll take Weiters spot, and in the event the AL scores 8 somehow, Mauer moves to C, Dunn to 1B, Butler remains in the game.
