Pitching Depth
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 19, 2011 -> 12:44 PM) I don't think you'll see any more of those McCulloch and Broadway types simply because KW has gone back a bit to the "best athlete available/highest upside" theory in the last couple of drafts. Even someone like Poreda, theoretically, if everything came together with his offspeed stuff, had the ability to be more than a back of the rotation starter. I guess when you look back at all those first round busts, for some reason Royce Ring is still the most mystifying and the biggest reach, even moreso than Broadway. Did he have a relative w/ the Sox? Like relative of Jerry Manuel or Kenny or something? EDIT: Apparently it was Bill Simas. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws I just remember being 13 years old and being pissed off the Sox drafted someone who was related to a member of the organization, figuring they probably reached on the pick.

SP: 3/18 vs Oakland
Humber walks Carter on a 3-2 count, and then quickly induces a game ending double play. 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K. Faced the minimum if you don't count Beckham's error.

Humber doesn't have great control his curveball right now, but that sucker moves a TON. Just got a strikeout on a curve that probably hit the plate. Retired all 8 batters now.

Damn, I turn away from the game to watch some Panda Cheese commercials, and I miss the HR.

SP: 3/18 vs Oakland
Humber with a quick 1-2-3, 6 pitch inning, all 6 pitches for strikes. Humber has retired all 7 batters he has faced, and has thrown about 21 pitches, 18 for strikes.

For the 2nd time this spring that I've seen, Beckham pops a pitch up and shakes his hand in pain. Then went into the dugout and faked throwing his helmet into the dugout.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) I find it to be showing off. There's no good reason to be rounding the bases, and then consistently taking off your helmet coming down the 3rd base line. I read somewhere the catcher didn't appreciate it the other day, and said something. Again, just keep the helmet on, cross home plate, and go to the dugout. It's not that difficult. To each his own I guess.

Phil with a 1-2-3 inning, but Beckham drops a pop-up. Strikes out the next batter. Threw about 15 pitches, 12 for strikes.

Phil Humberger in to pitch.

Wow, Milledge just got robbed of a single on a sweet dive up the middle by the 2nd baseman, and then a crazy scoop by the 1B with the ball bouncing at his face. Solid play.

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) No, I'm not giving him a break. There's no excuse for acting like a prick. b****ing in a spring training game with a 13-run lead, taking his helmet off before getting to home plate on home runs. These are dick moves, and they need to stop. I still fail to see how it's a dick move. I mean, if a player were to jog back to the dugout with his mitt on his head after each inning, I wouldn't call him a dick just because it is weird and not done by other players. It's just simply that, weird.

SP: 3/18 vs Oakland
QUOTE (Whitewashed in '05 @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 06:56 PM) I know he has had character issues in the past, but give him a break. It sure as hell isn't nice to watch a player take a called third strike and just walk back to the dugout shaking his head everytime... Nick "Caught Looking" Swisher. He took a called 2nd strike, but swung and missed the 3rd strike. So it was probably a comination of being mad at the ump, and being mad at himself for missing a big loopy curveball.

Milledge strikes out to end the huge inning, and was not very happy. He got a rough strike 2 called on him, so after the K he tossed his bat, kept walking, tossed his helmet, continued to walk, and then tossed his elbow guard.

Pitching Depth
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 06:23 PM) They did. It just so happens that he's going to be pitching out of the bullpen this year. He is a reliever until we see otherwise.

Konerko and Quentin go back-to-back with solo shots. 8-1 lead.

Pitching Depth
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 18, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Yeah, I guess that was a stretch after the Marcum trade. I'm a big Deck McGuire fan, though. I wanted him or Drew Pomeranz with our first pick last year. Man, that would have been sweeeet to draft a starting pitcher w/ our 1st pick last year.
