QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) We have different definitions of something and nothing. The bottom line is dumping Lillibridge for nothing now vs. hoping to get something back in a few weeks for his services and actually receiving a player isn't going to have a profound effect on the White Sox either in the present or in the future. Profound effect? Highly unlikely. But where is the negative? Doesn't hurt us in any way.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 03:32 PM) And you would be wrong. Unless your talking about a young prospect back with limited upside like a Jon Ely, then you would be correct as far as getting "something back." Yes. Something back > nothing back. That's my point. Maybe Kenny just wants to get something rather than nothing, while having an excuse to cut Marquez and his awfulness.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) Glorified pinch runners don't fetch much in trades. I agree. But I still think there is a team out there who would give us a player or two for the services of an uber-utility player with good speed and a good-enough glove.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 03:14 PM) They aren't going to get anything for Lillibridge and the Sox won't release him, they will send him through waivers. Another team may claim him. No one is going to give you anything for a guy with a career average below .200 who they will have to send through waivers if they want to send him to the minors. Disagree.

2011 Cubs Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Cashner wins the 5th spot in the rotation, Silva will not make the roster. Cubs will still be on the hook for his $11.5 million salary if they release him. And then he slammed their pitching coach on the way out.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Mar 27, 2011 -> 02:52 PM) I really don't like going with a six-man bullpen to start the year. Granted there are off days, but the worst thing we can do is overworked our relievers early in the season just so Lillipad can stay on the roster two extra weeks. When will the Sox realize how worthless he is? Maybe they are giving themselves an extra 2 weeks to find a trade partner for him because other teams may have been saying "Nah, we aren't going to trade for him, we will just pick him up after you guys have to release him". Now it gives us an upper-hand in trading him because he isn't just going to be released in a couple days.

2011 White Sox Catch-All Thread
Something I found interesting and completely unimportant.... Facebook has a "This or That" type polls that are going around. Mac vs. PC, Friday vs. Saturday, etc. Well I saw a "Cubs or Sox" one, and to my surprise, the Sox had 15.7K votes to the Cubs 13.2K. Thought it was interesting that of almost 30,000 votes, I was shocked the Sox would hold anything over 40%, let alone about 54% of the votes.

ST: 3/26 vs Angels
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) Not sure where you got the info, but Humber is the 5th starter and Marquez is in the pen, they are both making the squad until Peavy is back. 1 spot left - for the Millibridge. Oh, I had no idea that Marquez was making this team. That sucks.

Why do we open in Cleveland?
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 03:25 PM) I am in the same boat 90 miles south of Chicago and no CSN! Yeah, it sucks. I'm 230 miles southeast, and I get no CSN either, and I'm still in the blackout region.

ST: 3/26 vs Angels
QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) They just mentioned on The Score that there's just one more roster spot left, and it's between Milledge and Lillibridge. Does that mean Humber made the squad? If so, why are we bothering starting Marquez at all? Is he just a stopgap to get the rotation in its set order for the beginning of the season? There is only 1 more roster spot left because Humber had a huge lead on Marquez. Now that Humber struggled last time, and if Marquez can be great today, it may swing things back into competition. Basically, there are technically 2 spots open. 5th starter and 4th OF.

2010-2011 NHL thread
QUOTE (MurcieOne @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) Big game tonight. Need to win this game in regulation. Anaheim has been playing well lately, 7-3 in their last 10. Yeah, a win would be awwesome.

Why do we open in Cleveland?
QUOTE (idave03 @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Not to veer off topic but have you guys tried using a VPN to bypass the blackout restrictions? Its worked well for me in the past. VPN? My friends at school here used a proxy w/ their MLB.tv account, but they said it was painfully slow through the proxy, and the quality was awful. I'll surely give it a shot for other games, but I am not going to count on it and then miss opening day.

ST: 3/25 vs Diamondbacks
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 26, 2011 -> 12:51 AM) Just want to say that, due to the fact that Milledge is signed to a MLC and Lillibridge is out of options, it really wouldn't surprise me if the White Sox took Lillibridge north with them and then tried to sneak him through waivers after a couple games. I think they do like Lillibridge and want him to hang around, but I don't think even KW, who does his best to get value out of trades even when he should have given up hope long ago, realizes that Milledge is a better option than Lillibridge is at the moment. I'm all for Lillibridge staying w/ this orgization in some fashion, just not if it means at the cost of Milledge. Can't the Sox just cut him, and then re-sign him if he really wants to stay w/ us?

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 11:53 PM) Can I join the Friday night loser party? Count me in on the rooting for Lillibridge. I want him to be our pinch runner all season. My excuse is being sick.

Milledge with a solid rip in to the gap for a 2 RBI double. Battle of the Millibridge is HOT tonight!

Cool. If I remember correctly, his K-rate was filthy, and it was thought he was kept in the lower division just for trade value and not because they didn't think he could handle it. Hopefully, he can.

Humber
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 09:40 PM) Jackson I will. He was pretty phenomenal with the Sox after he was acquired last year, and, as mentioned, the Sox went 30-29. Yeah, but the Sox went 7-4 in the games he actually played in. Multiple by 3 to give you 33 starts, and that's 21-12 record in games he started. Sample size, obviously though.

Personally, I think Edwin and Quentin are the keys to the team. Yes, I understand that Peavy is the bigger name with better history of dominance, but it's hard for me to ever expect him to make 25+ starts anymore. I think if Edwin and Quentin can play as well as they have shown they can, this team will win, no matter how many starts Peavy gives us.
