  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:41 AM) If Jackson pitches really well, why would you trade him for someone who's not even close to a sure prospect? $8 million is not incredibly expensive for a pitcher, it was less than Javy was making...even at the time of that trade, we managed to get a decent looking haul from the Braves, although the jury's far from being out on some of the players we acquired. If Jackson pitches like he's capable of pitching, then it's always possible he's traded next year at the deadline when the leverage is the highest...but you can't trade Floyd, Danks or Jackson until you know what you have in Peavy for next season. The odds of Sale being able to make it as a starter to begin the year in April, 2011 are about 10%, obviously Torres/Harrell/Marquez aren't the solution and Garcia will be a bit too expensive and risky to keep. Well, when you take Konerko and AJ off the books, that's $18.25M off the books right there. Peavy will make only $1M more in 2011, than 2010, so that leaves $17M. Buehrle will make the same, Rios will make $2.3 more, so that leaves $15M. Pierre will make $1.5 LESS, so that's back up to $16.5M. Jenks is off the books, so that's $7.5 more. That gets us to $24M. Give Linebrink $.5M more, Teahen $1M more. That's $22.5M now. Danks + Putz + Quentin off the books gives us another $9.7M. So that's now $32.2M. Floyd will make $2.25 more, so down to about $30M. Add Thornton's option we will pick up, and that's down to $27M. Viciedo makes the same, but Kotsay is off the books. That leaves us with $28.5M. Vizquel + Pena give us $2.6M. Alexei makes the same, so we are at about $31M. Garcia off the books saves us $1M, but Castro's option that will be picked up nullifies that. Andruw Jones and Randy Williams off the books adds another $1M. So that brings us to $32M. So with that $32M, add in Jackson's $8.35 M next year, and that leaves us with $23.65M of wiggle room to resign Danks, Quentin, and Putz, not to mention resign some of those bench players (Vizquel/Jones/Kotsay?) and relievers (Pena), and you are really cutting it close. Now that's a very CRUDE way to add and subtract payroll, as there is much more to that (bonuses, minor league players contract, arbitration, raises, ect), but at the bare minimum of cost, we have around $23M to get ALL that done. So I really can't see us keeping Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, and Jackson together. At least 1 of them is gone, with Freddy taking the 5th spot, or Chris Sale if he does well in Arizona Fall League + Spring Training.
  2. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) Ozzie v. Buck Round 2 "[showalter] never even smelled a jock in the big leagues," Guillen says. "Mr. Baseball never even got a hit in Triple-A. I was a better player than him, I have more money than him and I'm better looking than him." I hope he said all that jokingly.....
  3. QUOTE (pktmotion @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 09:31 PM) Slim to none. If Jackson continues to do really well we could have a valuable offseason trade chip...Or we could retain Jackson and maybe trade another starter. That's an incredibly expensive rotation and I think one of the starters will get traded. The good news is all those guys have tremendous value and could be 1-3# on any team's rotation. Floyd/Danks could bring in a huge hitter. (Votto/Hamilton/Ethier type) Buehrle/Peavy could bring in a good crop of prospects. (more cash we eat the better the package) Jackson(depending on how he ends his season) could bring in some fringe AAA talent. (Alex Gordon/Logan Morrison type). One of the starters is going to get traded: exactly who? depends on a lot of things: Can Danks get extended? Can Jackson get extended? Can Sale handle a rotation spot? They will not have the rotation eat nearly half of the payroll. Would you trade Danks for Votto straight up? I think I would, considering his contract (or lackthereof)
  4. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 12:11 AM) What section of the on demand menu was it in? I couldn't find it. Local section.
  5. Paul Burnside, who is a little old for rookie ball, is putting together a real nice season.... 42 IP, 32 H, 3 HR, 11 BB, 43 BB, 2.79 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 3.9 K:BB Also, my boy Andy Wilkins went 1-4 tonight, but had 2 BB. Triple slash line is now .346/.440/.998. 19 BB to only 13 K is pretty nice. I believe his K% right now is only about 9%, which is really, really good for a guy who has 11 extra base hits in 26 games. Also has 3 SB, so it seems he at least has average speed.
  6. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 07:05 PM) And it is also a terrible idea to talk about Mark Kotsay after he just went 3-5 with 5 runs batted in. The conversation started before the game, and then, OF COURSE, Kotsay has the best game of his Sox career, and it leaves me looking dumb.
  7. http://www.facebook.com/scott.reifert?v=wa...d=1467906652513 Read if you have 5 minutes to spare, and please, someone help me from tearing my hair out. I can't believe I would find 3 people who think Kotsay is good, and they are all swarming at once!
  8. Can a player be placed through waivers twice? Like can the Nats pull Dunn off waivers, and then run him through again?
  9. "Stretch, Stretch!!!" As the ball lands 30 feet short of the wall.....wow Hawk.
  10. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) Nobody would claim his dumpy ass. Probably not, but it's worth a shot.
  11. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:57 PM) The good news is that Kotsay bats fourth for us next inning. All we need is one batter to get on base and he'll win the game for us. oh god, I couldn't even handle that.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) As much as I love Ramon Castro, I've been very underwhelmed by his pitch calling with Jenks on the mound. Really? You blame Ramon Castro for Jenks sucking?
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) I blame Chris Rongey and Hawk for this guy's horrible ignorance. I said something back to him, and I just can't wait to read his ridiculous reply.
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Don't even bother. Some people just love to ignore facts, even things like, you know, batting average. LOL, just wait, it gets better.... I reply... "All of my "numbers" mean everything. I don't care if Mark Kotsay bakes cookies for every game, the bottom line is that he is awful at baseball, and his play HURTS this team. He costs more runs than he produces. Dayan Viciedo and Brent Lillibridge have done well in the small chances they have had. There is no reason to sit the clearly more talented players in place of him. When Teahen comes back, Ozzie better get some sense and tell Kenny to DFA Kotsay because he adds NOTHING to this team." This guy must be a genius, because then he drops this insightful nugget on me.... "Send your numbers to Ozzie. He's the one that makes the decisions. You can try to impress us all you want with your WAR and UZR (whatever the hell those are) numbers but that alone won't bench your buddy Kotsay."
  15. Here is the guy on Facebook's response to me ripping Kotsay on Reiferts status.... "Geez, did Kotsay steal your girl in high school or what???? Relax, "The Show," he is just one of 25 guys on a roster. And all of your numbers and letters and +/- signs really don't mean much. Ozzie likes Kotsay on his club. Ozzie is the manager. That's enough to justify Kotsay's spot on the club."
  16. Anyone friends with Scott Reifert on Facebook? Some idiot just said this on his status that included today's lineup.... This is in response to why Kotsay is on this team still.... "Because he is such a versatile backup. He wasn't acquired a year ago to be the everyday left-handed DH. It just happened to fall that way. He is a good lefty pinch hitter, can play the outfield and is a very good first baseman to spell Konerko. And he is, from all accounts, one of the best leaders in the clubhouse. Batting average doesn't mean everything . . . . . . . ."
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 10:06 AM) I'm sure this was already addressed in this thread, but does this trade show a lack of confidence in Hudson short term, a lack of confidence in Hudson long term, a lack of confidence in the long term prognosis of Jake Peavy after his weird injury, the belief that Edwin Jackson can thrive under Coop, all of the above, or some of the above? I would say more lack of Rizzo being a doucher and going back on what he said he wanted for Dunn.
  18. Wilkins went 2-4 with a 3B and RBI. Avg up to .350. OPS is now over 1.000. Promote.Him.Now.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 09:06 PM) picked this up from motownsports.com ....who knows if its true...."Dickerson on radio with the claim the Dunn has cleared waivers...." So that means that Rizzo is free to trade Dunn wherever he wants to? I wonder why the Sox didn't try and claim him... ?
  20. Did anyone notice it was Linebrink's birthday? Hope this year brings less suck.
