Mets taking the Guardians out behind the woodshed in this series. Got a chance to blow it WAY open in the bottom of the 8th. Already 10-5.

Man I sure wish we traded for a guy who gives up 5 R in 4 IP to one of the worst teams in baseball like the Guardians did.

I'm happy the rest of the division laid an egg so far while we're getting mollywhopped by the hottest team I've seen since the A's won like 20 straight in the early 00s.

Kay makes like $6 million a year so .8 fWAR ain't too bad. He's either neutral or a successful signing. The rest of the guys (minus Dominguez) were cheap, and the Car Jerker was here for like a month. The most expensive was Hays at $6 mil/-.4 fWAR. I'll give you Dominguez as a failed signing, but you've got an outfield of BMont at 0.9 fWAR (in 45 games), Peters at 2.4 fWAR, and Antonacci at 1.4 fWAR. They didn't really end up needing Hays in the way they thought they would, so I have a hard time calling that a failed signing. Murakami and Murphy alone have combined for 3.9 fWAR. I don't think any GM is 100% successful at free agent signings. In fact I'd bet the success rate is pretty low, especially where the Sox usually play. I'm pretty content with what the Sox did with their free agent signings, especially given where the team is right now.

You also can't count Murakami because he fell into their laps. He literally flew over from Japan and played "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel on his boombox until Getz finally gave in and signed him.

Reinsdorf said it'd only take a year to be competitive again and it took two, so Getz gets an F-.

Yeah we say that every year and then they make the playoffs every year. I'll only not be worried about them when we finish the season in first or in a WC spot.

I have no idea why this is even a discussion, like I get people have to find something to still nitpick when the team is good, but come on. Both Quero and Romo suck really, really bad. Quero is only better because he's still really young and maybe has potential, so the Sox want Quero to play every day and work on stuff in a lower pressure environment to see if he can still be anything. Romo is gone once Teel comes back, and is likely barely going to play because Bart isn't good either but he's light years better than the 4th worst catching tandem in the history of baseball.

I've posted some reasons why elsewhere. He's had personal issues (lost a child due to miscarriage) and some injuries since his breakout 2024. The injuries are hopefully behind him, and he's been showing some positive offensive signs since returning from injury this year. He's a good defender which helps prop his value up. Sox seem to like taking multiple shots on multiple players to see who sticks and who their organizational philosophy can help. I don't have a problem with that.

I just don't think Pereira is much of anything because he can't stay on the field. We'll see if Doyle is any better.

Between a C & a B, so I went B to err on the positive side. I like the reliever trade a lot. Bart they didn't give up much for, is a pretty good defender, and isn't a good hitter but is LIGHT YEARS better than Romo and Quero. I think Doyle is worth a look and it sounds like there was some competition for him. Don't really care much for what they gave up either. Also the usual suspects here hate the move and that automatically makes it better. Castillo is mixed to me. I'm glad they didn't shy away from taking on money, I'm glad they got rid of Dominguez, I think Boston Smith is nothing special as a prospect, but they'd better hope they can fix Castillo and get him back to at least a halfway decent starter. It's also funny how much people hate losing Pereira all of a sudden after one good game. If he was DFA'd before yesterday's game people would be celebrating. I would also rather have kept him, but it's not really worth worrying about. He was the best of some meh options.

Quero has options left, Romo doesn't. Quero gets consistent playing time without pressure, Bart plays most of the time, and Romo is gone for good when Teel comes back.

With his defensive ability if he puts up near a 100 wRC+ he's a valuable player. We'll see if the Sox are right about him.

I don't get the Angels not trading Detmers. I'm not one to value prospects over real producing major leaguers, but that whole organization needs to be blown up and having Detmers still there is pointless for them. Maybe they think they can get more in the offseason? The Reds are also a head scratcher. They have no chance in the NL Central. Maybe a shot at a wild card, but they're so flawed they're not going anywhere in the postseason.

I really don't think Doyle was a bad move. I think he's a buy low guy and it's clear we need help in CF without much else coming up. Definitely worth a shot to see if he's back to anywhere near what he was in 2024. I want us to be in that "oh no don't trade with the Rays White Sox" boat

I thought Ballesteros was their next great slugger?
