Gonzales also reporting Kelvin Jimenez was added to the cut list.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I don't see how you got that out of the situation. Viciendo is 20 years old and will be in AAA, outside of Jon Garland, I can't think of many 20 year olds we have seen on our AAA team. Fields is clearly playing well enough to earn the 3B spot, and splitting time and at-bats will do nothing for Viciendo's potential and progress. Brandon Allen going to AA instead of AAA actually surprised me the most. I'm not too surprised about Allen going to AA. He only played 41 games there last year. Plus Charlotte will probably have Broussard and maybe Myrow.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Quick question: What does it mean for the guys sent down to minor league camp, and not straight to AA or AAA? Are they still trying to determine what level they want them to play at? Right...minor league camp means they haven't decided where they want to assign them yet. They have to set rosters just like the major league team, so those decisions are partially made now, but for some others, they need more time.

  5. Broadway gives up a run in the 10th on a wild pitch.
  6. Braun was injured coming into spring training. He's been throwing on the same sidelines with Colon and Contreras, only it wasn't reported as widely.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Another note from Gonzalez... TUCSON, Ariz. - Manager Ozzie Guillen revealed that 19-year-old Cuban infielder Dayan Viciedo has shin splints that has affected his running. Viciedo, however, is in the White Sox's lineup Tuesday against Arizona. Viciedo showed his bat is fine by ripping a double three-fourths of the way off the 30-foot wall in center field off All-Star pitcher Dan Haren in the second inning. Viciedo, however, was easily thrown out trying to run to third after Chad Tracy threw to first to retire Brian Anderson. He didn't get the memo that Viciedo is 20.
  8. Trib's Gonzalez: TUCSON, Ariz. - White Sox second baseman Jayson Nix was pulled in the top of the fifth inning after ripping a double off the center field wall. Nix apparently aggravated a right quadriceps strain that sidelined him earlier this spring. Nix was noticably limping as he rounded first base. He was replaced by Eider Torres.
  9. Richard gave up a 2-run homer in the 5th. Still, good to see him get stretched out to start.
  10. 1-2-3 4th inning for Richard. Two grounders and a K
  11. I'm just playin' about Buehrle's contract. It would be tough to move three years/$45 million right now anyway. I wouldn't mind having three lefties in the rotation. Colon can go, for all I care.
  12. Three shutout innings for Clayton Richard. One hit, one walk. He's making Buehrle's contract look bad. Just my opinion.
  13. I think Betemit will be the bizarro Juan Uribe. We'll love his bat, and hate his glove.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 16, 2009 -> 05:13 PM) I was a Lillibridge fan when we got this kid. I'm done with him now. I'm with you.
  15. When are the cuts coming? I know they cut four guys last week, but they still have 28 more cuts to come.
  16. Yeah, I really don't like Viciedo's approach. He needs a full year of minor league ball.
  17. Egbert has a legitimate chance to make the team.
  18. Hey padres announcers, the Sox traded Baines to Texas, not Baltimore.
  19. Owens misplays a ball. He's so going to get released.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) "This kid, what's his name, Gavin Floyd, he's got pretty good stuff up there" - Padre announcer. HAHA. I heard that. Um, yeah, that guy that won 17 games for a division winner last year.
  21. Owens making outs is a very good thing.
  22. QUOTE (forrestg @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 10:59 AM) Gordon is our best option at 2b but when I asked Ozzie yesterday Ozzie said"no, he'll be starting the season at Birmingham" 3 weeks to change his mind. I really don't think they can make the wrong decision with Beckham. I certainly couldn't blame them for sending him down for a month or two. On the other hand, I think this kid is ready now, and could be a great spark plug for this team from day 1. My fear is that Getz plays really well, and than they start scrambling to find Beckham a different postion, like LF or CF. That would definitely be a bad move. That's why I kinda hope he makes 2B from day 1, just to lock him in to the job and not cause confusion within the organization.
  23. QUOTE (forrestg @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) No matter how well he plays this spring Beckham will start at Birmingham. He is a great ball player but I think that Sox management want him to let him go through the system. If that is so I would make tell everybody to make plans to go to Birmingham to see him play. If they're telling Beckham he has a chance to make the team, then I think he'll make the team. He's a better baseball player than Getz, Lillibridge, and Nix, and I fully expect he'll outplay them to be the opening day 2B.
