QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 03:08 PM) https://twitter.com/CST_soxvan/status/981624114887692288 Sox plan to play tomorrow... lol If the forecast Friday was any good, they’d change it now. Unfortunately, they’re stuck with Thursday. It will suck, but they’ll play.

The Jason Benetti and Sox Announcing Thread
flavum replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don’t want to be a 100 percent against him either. He actually has made me laugh, but he misses way more than he hits. He has great pipes for broadcasting without being a cartoon character. He’s very smart. He just needs to dial it back. Let the game breathe instead of wall-to-wall talking. -
The Jason Benetti and Sox Announcing Thread

I just think- less is more. He talks too much...they talk too much. Call the game, make some good baseball points, make jokes when they’re actually funny, and stay out of my way of actually just watching and enjoying the game. He’s a mosquito buzzing around my ear for 3 hours. -
The combo of low expectations for Fulmer and Benetti being unbearable, it’s a “check my phone” night.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:07 AM) I would bet plenty would. Plenty isn’t 15–and then you need the other 15 to go on a two week trip for weeks 3 and 4, which they don’t want to do. And by the way, the Cubs have a 3-city trip now, but where does it end? 90 miles up 94. They had an off day in Chicago during this.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:00 AM) If your team blames losses on road games, you aren't a contender. When teams build new stadiums, they start the season on the road to give the workers more time. I think the Sox opener when they opened the new park was April 18th or something. The Cubs are playing 3 road series to start this season on the road because of work being done. They won't complain, and people actually go to their games when it's 35 degrees. It's one less long road trip to make during the season. You can say whatever you want, the fact is teams would never sign off on a yearly 4-city to start the season and you know it.
-
Starting the season with a 4-city trip every year will never happen. Teams won’t go for it. Imagine starting 4-8 on the road before the home opener...not happening. This is just an unfortunate year. Nothing more, nothing less.

I’m probably in the minority, but I don’t like Miller Park. It’s ok, but even when it’s open, it still feels kinda indoors. Plus if the weather is bad, you still have to drive in crap and not tailgate. Every team getting a retractable roof isn’t realistic. This is just a crappy year that happens once in a while. They’ll get the games in, and the weather will be better in a couple weeks.
-
As long as the regular season is 186 days, there’s nothing they can do about the possibility of really bad weather postponing games. If they want to shorten to 172 days and build in scheduled day/night doubleheaders with more roster provisions that don’t penalize players, I’m all for it. This is just an unfortunate year.

That bat drop was bush. The thing after he crossed the plate was bush. What would have been funny and acceptable would be if he looked at Boston before he got to first and whistled and just kept it between the two of them. But if he wants to sign with the Sox, I’m cool with him!

Bullpen is going to be fluid. If Farquhar has a bad 4-5 weeks, he gone.

Players of the Week(end) AL- Justin Smoak NL- Adam Eaton Good for Eaton.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 01:59 PM) The "unwritten rules of baseball" or so f***ing stupid. There I said it. If anything, the Twins shouldn’t be shifting like that up 7-0.

Any interest in Y.Tomas after he clears waivers?

He cleared waivers, outrighted to Reno -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:18 PM) April weather sucks, March is even worse. They now start at the end of March. The first week should be in all warmer weather places or domes. It's ridiculous to play baseball when it's 35 degrees. Yankees snowed out today. Again, March 29 and April 5...very little difference...and to what end? Just getting all of the Day 1 games in?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:06 PM) I was watching a spring training game that featured the Mariners, and they had their GM in the both. They were so excited to be opening at home for only the second time in 10 or 15 years. The GM couldn't believe it. He said maybe they need to remind MLB they have a roof if needed. It is stupid not to take advantage of your warmer weather places and cities with a roof when you can. Why? Because it's a huge deal to play 15 games on Day 1? That was going to happen for the first time in decades, but two games had to be pushed back a day. They got the games in. Again, it's a knee-jerk reaction to say "Start in domes and warm weather", but bottom line, April weather sucks and they aren't going to start northern teams on the road for a month. So it's just a thing they have to deal with.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 12:02 PM) What's Hawks schedule in the booth this year? I thought he was still doing road games, but I seem to be wrong. This Thursday, home Sundays, and the entire Cubs series at home.
-
I had to look...they still have the Sox and Tigers both going 68-94. https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?...ition=Standings G The Sox won't be a .500 team...don't get me wrong. Barring huge injuries, they will win over 70, and the Tigers are losing over 100.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 2, 2018 -> 10:56 AM) A nine or ten game road trip is pretty standard at different times of year. If it starts the year, it doesn't change that they can have a nine or ten game homestand during the middle of the year to make up for it. Ok, I'll extend it...March 29 or April 9th? Bad weather can happen either time. And teams generally wouldn't want a three city trip to start either. The Cubs are doing it this year, but there's a chance they requested it because of the park renovations. The knee-jerk reaction to start the season in warm cities and domes isn't practical.
-
Unless teams want to start the season with a two week road trip, there really isn't much they can do about weather problems...and that's not going to happen. The more important thing to do is schedule teams in the division as much as possible early in the season so there are more opportunities to make up the games. Now, there's always a minimum of three non-division series going on, so those should be in warm places or domes. The Twins open Thursday with the Mariners...that's not an ideal opponent for scheduling purposes. But again, there's not a lot they can do. March 29/April 5th? They both can have decent weather or winter weather.

Of the players that could be dealt at the deadline who do you want to
flavum replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I’d like to propose a trade with the Cubs... Willson Contreras trades an L in his name to Welington Castillo, so he’d actually be Wellington. -
April 28th...so if Kopech makes four dominant starts for Charlotte...

Toronto series: Lopez vs Jaime Garcia Gonzalez vs JA Happ Fulmer vs Aaron Sanchez Looks like Jordan Zimmermann vs James Shields for the home opener

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 1, 2018 -> 10:14 AM) What are the chances they skip Fulmer? They aren't. Van Schouwen tweeted.
