If they changed the rules that it has to be a pitcher with at least 180 innings, I wouldn't have a problem with that. Then they could make a bigger deal for Reliever of the Year. That would be a good thing to do.
But I think in a year where no starter has an ERA under 3, and Britton is perfect in save opportunities for a contending team, with a 0.55 ERA, and an 809 ERA+, I would vote for him. He deserves it under the current rules, and even a lot of advanced stat people agree.
It seems like some are trying to make a case for Sale because he's "our guy". Even if it were just for starting pitchers, I doubt Sale would crack the top 3 right now, but I'd like to look at it more closely Sunday night when it's all over.
