QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 03:47 PM) Then this thread can be deleted. I f***ing hate the Sox sometimes. They're one good hitter away from being a legit contender and of course they won't go for it. SMDH. I wouldn't freak out until Cespedes and Upton are on different teams. And even then, don't freak out.

This may turn out to be a "be careful what you wish for" situation anyway.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 01:50 PM) Chicago White Sox @whitesox 1m1 minute ago #WhiteSox have claimed outfielder Daniel Fields off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Added to 40 man. *obligatory, never not hilarious "World Series here we come!" comment after minor move* Almost as funny as the thousand "Will Griffey go in as a White Sox?" tweets yesterday. -

Ken Griffey gets 99.32% of Hall of Fame vote. Highest ever.

I mentioned new guys next year- Ivan Rodriguez, Manny Ramirez, and Vlad Guerrero. Guess I should have included Jorge Posada too, but I hope he falls off quick. Omar Vizquel is going to be an interesting case in a few years. He has so much support for whatever reason. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:47 AM) The one plausible scenario I have seen is if a guy had 11 names he wanted to vote for, he could have left Griffey off knowing he was getting in and used his 10 votes for the others. Right, although I haven't heard anyone come forward and say that's what they did. -

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jan 7, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) Am I alone in liking the history that nobody gets 100%? Griffey certainly was a great player but for him to be the only player to ever get 100% kind of doesn't feel right. The story that he was the only player to ever get 100% would be.....I don't really know how to explain it. It doesn't make sense NOT to vote for Griffey, but there are a couple things that I don't get upset about at all: 1- This issue. A few weirdos out of 440 didn't vote for him. Big deal. If they didn't take away privileges away from 100 voters, he wouldn't have gotten 98% probably, so it's improving. 2- Buddy votes. If you don't want David Eckstein to get a vote, don't put him on the ballot at all. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 06:38 PM) For the life of me I can't figure out how Trevor Hoffman gets so much support in year 1 on the ballot and Mussina is still below 50%. 600 saves > no Cy's/under 300 wins That's the thought, but it doesn't make it right. Hell, Billy Wagner is probably better than Hoffman, but look at the difference in percentages for them. -

Next year's ballot, with this year's percentages (my ten in Bold): Bagwell - 71.6 Raines - 69.8 (last year) Hoffman - 67.3 Schilling - 52.3 Clemens - 45.2 Bonds - 44.3 Martinez - 43.4 Mussina - 43.0 Smith - 34.1 (last year) McGriff - 20.9 Kent - 16.6 Walker - 15.5 Sheffield - 11.6 Wagner - 10.5 Sosa - 7.0 Rodriguez, I Ramirez, M Guerrero I do think Bagwell, Raines, and Hoffman will get in next year---and maybe Vlad. -
Another thing to look for is Sosa staying on the ballot. 7.6% with 47% of the ballots public. Looking like Edmonds will not get 5%, which I'm totally ok with. Good player, but no way he belongs in.

Raines is a case I just don't understand how we're missing. And I admit it, I didn't think he was a HOF for a long time. Probably because walks and OBP weren't valued like they should have been. When you take his career from 1981-1995 (10 years with the Expos and 5 with the White Sox) He played 12.5 yrs worth of games out of the 15 years. Missed about a season of games with strikes in 1981 and 94/95, and a month in 1987 because of collusion--which could have cost him an MVP. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...atting_standard He should have been a lock a long time ago.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 11:40 AM) Good deal for the Royals and I'm happy for Gordon to get to stay where he wanted to. That said, things should heat up pretty quick. I'm less optmistic today as I felt Gordon was the Sox best chance. Right now though, It certainly seems it is Cespedes or bust in terms of the initial big 3. Don't get the feeling that Upton is all that interested in the Sox (and I don't think the Sox want to offer the years it would take to get Upton). I figured Gordon/Royals and Davis/Orioles had to fall first. Hey Davis, take the deal, son.

Up to 194 votes... Bagwell - 76.8 Raines - 76.3

QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jan 6, 2016 -> 08:57 AM) 4 years 72 mil. It's actually kinda sad they couldn't come to that agreement months ago. But can't blame a player for seeing what's out there.
-
As a baseball fan, I like when players stay with their teams. So if he didn't come to the Sox, I'm glad he's back with KC. Moving on....
-
181 votes...about 40% of the total... Griffey - 100.0 Piazza - 86.2 Bagwell - 77.3 Raines - 76.2 Taking away the 100 or so votes of non-baseball writers from last year absolutely helped the percentages this year, but I think only two guys are getting in this year. It's too bad for Raines, but hopefully he gets over the finish line next year.
-
Bagwell and Raines are going to be close calls tomorrow night. I think they come close, but just short--especially Bagwell. McGwire and Trammell are falling off the ballot (with Griffey and Piazza getting in), with IRod, Vlad, and Manny taking their places. The cluster will continue. There should be no limit on number of players they can vote for. If you believe somebody is a Hall of Famer, you should be able to vote for them. The 75% threshold is still going to prevent 9 guys getting in one year.

156 public votes- just over 1/3 of the electorate. Griffey - 100.0 Piazza - 86.5 Bagwell - 79.5 Raines - 78.2 On the ballot next year- Manny Ramirez, Ivan Rodriguez, Vladimir Guerrero
