With the stressful innings this outing, they might as well make this the last outing for Johnson and have Samardzija make his 33rd start next Sunday. Let him finish with somewhat of a good outing and a good showing this month.

Walk and an error...quality.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 11:40 AM) How will he be gone? I don't think any other team would want him at this point. He's basically Viciedo 2.0 with less power. He still has tools, and I think a team would want to see if they can work with those tools. If the Sox intend to compete next year, he's got to go.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Sep 27, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Them batting Thompson cleanup for these games says basically everything we need to know about Avi next year, right? He's a goner this winter.

Tigers won. White Sox won. Red Sox won. Day off the schedule. Hopefully that's the one Sox win this weekend since spoiling the Yankees season really doesn't look like a possibility. -
Sox 15-8 in Rodon starts. If you were given this figure in March, is there any doubt you would think the Sox were going to make the playoffs?

6.2 innings would put him right at 150. Sounds about right. They've talked about giving Montas another start anyway. Usually I'm against shutting guys down, but for a rookie, it's a different animal.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 01:57 PM) Kiley McDaniel on Fangraphs said that Schwarber would go #1 if they re-did the 2014 draft. Ok. I'll be honest...I never heard of Schwarber on draft day, so I'm just glad the Astros and Marlins passed on Rodon. I think anyone else at 3 would have taken Rodon then too. The re-draft thing is a fun exercise, but there should be no regret with that pick. Hopefully the Sox get him to the playoffs sometime before he leaves in 2021-2022.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 25, 2015 -> 01:31 PM) I too think Rodon's a bit low at #9, but at least he's ahead of Schwarber. I can't believe some people think we should have drafted him over Rodon last year. Should have, or questioned with hindsight whether they would have taken Schwarber? I questioned that, but that doesn't mean I think they should have. Just curious, who said they should have taken Schwarber?

Yes, Abreu and Eaton are building blocks. Hopefully Eaton plays better out of the gate next year, and finds a way to become a better base stealer. And of course, if they want to move him to LF if a better option exists, then do that too.

Some disturbing Sox numbers…yet the status quo remains

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) Counting the record the last few years would be like holding John Fox responsible if the Bears start out 0-3. They ran out of gas in 2012, it was all they could do. Youk was cashed, Sale was cashed. In 2013 Paulie was hurt, the people's choice at that time behind the plate showed why he was a back up. The Sox traded away pieces at the deadline. Last year was a rebuilding year. No need to get depressed about that record. This year, yeah, it was disappointed, but they are closer than they were a couple of years ago, and plan to get closer in the winter. The difference between good and bad can be a rather slim line. Take the Cubs, what if Houston drafted Bryant? What if Samardzija accepted the extension? What if Arrietta was the same pitcher or slightly better than he was in Baltimore? Enjoy easier parking and shorter lines next year. -

And just to add another angle besides conditioning, the Yankees are playing for something. There does need to be a certain level of integrity of the teams that are out of it. I'm not a fan of the September 40-man rules and shutting guys down, especially now that 5 of 15 teams make the postseason. There are so many more meaningful late season games than there used to be. Unless there's an injury going on, teams should be trying. -

QUOTE (shipps @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) I really dont see the reason why we still have Chris out there this time of year. Because the season is still going on, and he's a starting pitcher in the major leagues. -

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 09:00 AM) So there is no realistic option where we tie them (we would have the higher pick if we did). Let's finish a half game below them for a higher pick! It would be good to be 1.5 games behind them by the time the series begins, so one loss will keep the Sox behind. -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 08:11 AM) Well one of the 3 best pitchers in the AL wouldn't finish in the top 3 in voting then. Which would be dumb. Not that it really matters anyway though. The only knock Sale really has against him is the fewer innings this year. I won't be changing your mind, but there are a bunch of starting pitchers having better years than Sale. He's not even close.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) He's not getting the award. It's about him being top 3. If anyone votes for him 3rd, I'd be very surprised.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 24, 2015 -> 07:44 AM) I get that the defense sucks, but tough s***. The award honors the player who had the best season on the field, not the player who should have had the best season. I don't mind looking at FIP, but what actually happened on the field should have a higher bearing on the award. Agreed, I mean look at what happened the other day. Yes, he did get bad luck with Sanchez making an error, but Sale still got rocked after that---hard hit balls, walks, a homer. He had an opportunity to get outs, and he didn't. But no negative impact on his ERA at all. Luck works both ways.
