Jordan Danks DFA, Phillies claim him
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 05:27 PM) Either of those would require another 40 man spot though right? So more shuffling? Shuck is on the 40-man.

Jordan Danks DFA, Phillies claim him
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2015 -> 05:19 PM) So now I legit wonder who the backup OF is Shuck, or Danks ends up getting outrighted to Charlotte and makes the team as a non-roster invitee. Or something else. Ichiro?

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 05:58 PM) This would make for awesome trivia if you have the list. Some of these guys may be retiring or not sign, and I'm not including Andruw Jones, who I don't if he's still playing in Asia. Beltre will probably end up being the last one. Alex Rodriguez Jason Giambi Latroy Hawkins Jamey Wright Bartolo Colon Torii Hunter David Ortiz Carlos Beltran Adrian Beltre Bruce Chen Alex Gonzalez AJ Pierzynski Aramis Ramirez AJ Burnett Buddy Carlyle Kyle Farnsworth Tim Hudson Jose Molina Joe Nathan Randy Wolf

Tim Raines HOF
QUOTE (lord chas @ Jan 7, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) Did i hear right that he only has two more years on the ballot before he is removed? Yes. Mattingly, Trammell, and Lee Smith got grandfathered for 15. Everyone else has 10 years.

2014-2015 MLB off season player movement and rumors thread
John McDonald retired. Only noteworthy because there are now only 20 players left from the 1900's still playing in MLB.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
I never realized how mediocre Ted Lyons was. There's another number they can unretire as far as I'm concerned.

Tim Raines HOF
He belongs. His walks, OBP, and SB percentage were undervalued. He basically missed a full season of prime-career games because of strikes and collusion. I think he has a good shot in 2017.

Hall of Fame elects Johnson, Martinez, Biggio, Smoltz
The numbers in 1994 were large. Very possible they were playing with a juiced ball because the strike was looming.

Hall of Fame elects Johnson, Martinez, Biggio, Smoltz
QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) Really happy to see Johnson and Smoltz make the HOF. I was just a sophomore in HS when they were rookies and loved watching their highlights throughout their careers. I remember sitting in a pool hall drinking one night and watched Johnson K something like 19 Sox hitters. Many, many beers were downed that night. I'm fine with Biggio and Pedro too. Pedro was pretty filthy and loved watching him pitch against the cubs when the Expos were in town. For some reason, this game is memorable to me. http://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/SE...199406250.shtml McDowell was coming off a Cy season, but not doing great at this point. A classic pitcher's duel.

Hall of Fame elects Johnson, Martinez, Biggio, Smoltz
With it being McGwire's last year next year, hopefully more will look at him as a wasted vote and Raines will get some more traction over the next two years. Griffey is the only lock next year, with Jim Edmonds, Billy Wagner, and Trevor Hoffman there too. 2 years from now-- Ivan Rodriguez, Manny, Vlad, and Posada are the notables.

Hall of Fame elects Johnson, Martinez, Biggio, Smoltz
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 01:15 PM) 8.9 % of the voters should lose their voting privileges forever. You can say that, but with so many ballots made public before other voters had to mail their own, there were probably a lot of strategy votes. Meaning, Randy and Pedro are getting in no matter what, I'll vote for Jeff Kent or Carlos Delgado to help their 5% case.

Hall of Fame elects Johnson, Martinez, Biggio, Smoltz
I think Percival getting 4 votes probably means three guys saw he had 358 saves and voted for him, without having watched a baseball game in 25 years.

Hall of Fame asking writers not to reveal votes
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 09:03 AM) You have no idea who did and didn't though. That makes this argument stupid. There are already guys in the HOF that have used PED's. I know there are players in the Hall that did steroids and other PEDs already, that's why I would be willing to put in Clemens and Bonds. But I would also use my instincts and common sense not to go overboard on the amount of players from that Era going in. So for the players that made their debut from 1984-1995, I would put in: Roberto Alomar Jeff Bagwell Craig Biggio Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Tom Glavine Ken Griffey, Jr. Derek Jeter Randy Johnson Chipper Jones Barry Larkin Greg Maddux Pedro Martinez Fred McGriff Mike Mussina Mike Piazza Kirby Puckett Manny Ramirez Mariano Rivera Alex Rodriguez Ivan Rodriguez Curt Schilling John Smoltz Frank Thomas Jim Thome That's 25 from a 12-year period. I can look at this group and feel these are the best-of-the-best from the Era. Some juiced, some didn't, some we'll never know. But it looks good to me.

Hall of Fame asking writers not to reveal votes
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2015 -> 08:13 AM) Bob Nightengale gets it, this sums up my thoughts completely http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2...emens/21290463/ Yeah, that's a good summary. Not sure if he means he would put in Palmeiro, McGwire, and Sosa if he had the chance, but I agree with most of what he's saying. Anyway, looks like the only suspense is Piazza getting in, and if McGwire and Sosa will fall off.

Hall of Fame asking writers not to reveal votes
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 12:57 PM) Neither could Mike Piazza, then why aren't all those voters idiots? Like I said, I would put in a proportionate amount of players from the Era in. If a person is willing to vote for guys on roids, then it probably starts with Bonds and Clemens. Then Piazza and Bagwell. Biggio, Pedro, Randy Johnson, Smoltz, Mussina, Schilling. If a person actually has room on their 10-man ballot for Sosa and/or McGwire, I don't get it at all.

Hall of Fame asking writers not to reveal votes
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 4, 2015 -> 02:11 PM) Why? Because neither could put up Hall of Fame numbers without juicing their brains out. I can see putting in a proportionate amount of candidates from the Era in, and that would include Bonds and Clemens, but Sosa wouldn't have hit 400 homers without hardcore steroids, and McGwire was on his last legs in the mid-90's.

Looks like his first choice number is 1, and his backup is 64. 64? C'mon man!
