WhiteSox and Emilio Bonifacio agree to one year, $4 million contr
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) If he has another good ST, I think he can certainly compete to be that platoon for Gillaspie. Then make the bench Davidson, Bonifacio, Danks, Brantly/Kottraras That's what I'm talking about. Had this signing in my very first off season mock. That's what I was looking at too. I'm rooting for Davidson to be good enough, but holy crap, what a bad season he's coming off of.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) I would think that Andy Wilkins or Raul Fernandez will be DFA to make room unless a trade is coming. Yeah, sometimes there's a lag time between a signing being made public and a physical to make it official. Could be days, and they're obviously trying to move Viciedo for anything.

Looking at the makeup of the team, it's too bad Davidson isn't good enough to be a straight platoon with Gillaspie at 3B.

White Sox will pay Emillio Bonifacio $3 million in 2015 and either $4 million in 2016 or a $1million buyout.-Levine

This is how you spell Bonifacio.

I don't know how good of a CF he is, but he played there quite a bit last year. It's nice to know he can fill in if/when Eaton needs time off, rather than Leury Garcia or Jordan Danks. It'll keep Cabrera consistent in LF and the 2-spot in the lineup.

QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) so the prospect that the marlin sent will be sent back, right? No, I just meant the marlins are off the hook for the cash. The players involved aren't going back.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 08:59 AM) From 1990-1999 (throwing out his lost '97 season) he averaged 4.9 fWAR, 22 HRs, 92 RBIs, with a .278/.367/.452 slash while winning 6 Gold Gloves. That is HOF type production when you factor in his defensive ability. After 1999, his condition kept worsening to the point that he could barely walk when he retired (and used a cane after retirement) and was relegated to playing 1st his last year. Lots of ifs and buts involved, but had he not gotten hurt he could have ended up with 400 HRs and 1500 RBIs. As a Gold Glove third baseman that would warrant HOF discussion. Even with the injury JAWS has him listed as the 20th greatest third baseman of all time. Even with all of that, I watched Ventura's entire career and never once thought I was watching a future Hall of Fame player. Obviously after his injury he was healthy enough to have a five pretty good seasons, so I don't know how much you can blame the ankle for shortening his career.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jan 3, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) Had Ventura not screwed his leg up in '97, he may have wound up with a plaque in Cooperstown. So yes he was a better player than Ozzie. Even if you reserve number retirement for the best of the best in MLB history, not just Sox history, Thomas still gets his retired. He is one of the top 20 or so greatest offensive forces to ever play the game. No

3 locks. Biggio will probably hang on for a record 4th. Expecting Piazza to fall below. Decent chance McGwire, Sosa, and Sheffield will fall off--which is nice. Ben Zobrist
QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 11:20 AM) ...but he better be wrong about Leury being in the mix for the starting 2B job. Ick. I think they do that just to be thorough. Anyway, yeah, Zobrist would be another great pickup. If they can do it without trading Micah Johnson, even better.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 29, 2014 -> 10:09 PM) It's going to be retired with #14. They left two spots on the wall of retired numbers. A google image search shows there's one spot open between 11 and 16, with the same amount of space 9 is between 4 and 11.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
Ventura and Guillen are both good examples of why I like the idea of a White Sox Hall of Fame, rather than number retirement. (Baines and Pierce too, but too late for that). And #6 being unofficially retired for Charley Lau has been really stupid too.

Should #13 be put back in circulation?
On the heels of another "Ozzie Guillen wants back in" article, and Konerko getting his number retired next summer, should the Sox give #13 out again? After playing for the Sox for 13 years and then managing them to a World Series victory, I thought it was just a matter of time. For me, the Sox have too many numbers retired in the first place. I'd say no to #13 being retired ever. What say you?

83-year-old BBWAA member, Garry Brown, forgot to vote Smoltz because of a "brain freeze". But did vote for Randy Johnson, who was thought to have been left off his ballot too. Randy Johnson is at 100% through 93 votes. Garry Brown is the epitome of somebody who should no longer vote on this.

memories of the 2005 World Series
I remember running on fumes for about 5 weeks--from the Crede walkoff against the Indians to the last out of the World Series. I think my favorite moment was the last out of the ALCS- the moment you realize that our generally lowly White Sox were actually going to play in the World Series.
