89-74, beat Indians in Game 163

Hawk is terrible and he'll get worse, but hopefully a better team will block that out.

Top 3 Things You Think MUST Happen For 2015 to be a Success
flavum replied to mmmmmbeeer's topic in Pale Hose Talk
1. The bullpen can't suck. This will make you feel good-- Guerra, Jennings, Duke, Webb, Putnam, Petricka, and Robertson combined this season: 399 appearances 405 innings 2.78 ERA Might need 460 innings, but more of that would be good. -
Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
flavum replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Everyone has a right to their opinion on this issue, and nobody is wrong. If it bothers you, then speak with your dollars--don't go to the games and don't watch. I'd rather they didn't bring in PED guys after they're in the union (or wife beaters), but hopefully the rules become stricter as time goes on. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 09:25 AM) He was traded to Toronto, wasn't he? Pirates

If you have to field a team on today's 40-man, including Cabrera: Lineup- Eaton, Cabrera, Abreu, LaRoche, Garcia, Gillaspie, Ramirez, Flowers, Sanchez (Johnson currently non-roster invite) Bench- Leury, Danks, Viciedo, Brantly Rotation- Sale, Samardzija, Quintana, Danks, Noesi Bullpen- Guerra, Jennings, Webb, Petricka, Duke, Putnam, Robertson

It's going to be great entering spring training with a 25-man roster that's set barring an injury. Spring training competition is overrated. It just means you have holes.
-
Nieto is in the minors--so is Rodon. Putnam is the setup guy. I think they'll go with Johnson at 2B, and Sanchez will go back to Charlotte. After Viciedo is dumped, they probably have Shuck/Danks, Leury, and Brantly on the bench. Stuff will change.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:44 AM) Why? There is a pretty good chance he isn't on the roster anyway It was a joke. Ugh. Have a laugh once in a while.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:30 AM) Did he say anything of interest? Not really. Stuff we know. One thing I agree with him though...Danks and Noesi at 4-5 are good enough. They make their starts and put up innings. Until they give the Sox a reason to make a move, they don't need to make a move with starting pitching.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:26 AM) I think the show Bruce Levine hosts comes on at 9 No, that's Saturdays at 8-10. He was on.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:20 AM) Every single poster here would take a comp pick, the problem is a comp draft pick is worth more than Viciedo making a deal unlikely. Honestly, let's hope for a reliever or lottery ticket prospect and call it a day. Amen! It's just good to know there's no place for Viciedo on this team. He's a losing player, just like Dunn and Rios were/are.

Surkamp should hold out for a car to give up #53.
-
Somebody here mentioned Bonifacio before. That would be a good player too. Eaton and Cabrera miss a lot of time, and he'd be good insurance at 2B. But they're going to need a 4th outfielder they trust to play 80 games, even if they don't need him that much in the end.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 07:37 AM) Happy HAHN-nikah everyone! Well played.

Eaton Cabrera Abreu LaRoche Garcia Gillaspie Ramirez Flowers Johnson I think we're almost at rosterbating level.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 03:33 AM) Has Flavum posted in this thread tonight? Ha! Just heard about this. Yeah, I'm not big on the Sox signing PED guys after they're in the union. I can't deny Cabrera is a perfect fit and sometimes, as a fan, you have to root for players you don't like as people. We'll see how it goes. Also, good job by Bruce Levine even though he's gross. He'll be on the Score at 8.

It's going to be important to start hot.. Lots of division games and road games the first two months. Looking at the rotation, the first 11 starts could look like this for the Big 3: Sale 4-6 at KC 4-12 vs Min 4-18 at Det 4-23 vs KC 4-28 at Bal 5-3 at Min 5-9 vs Cin 5-15 at Oak 5-20 vs Cle 5-25 at Tor 5-31 at Hou Samardzija 4-8 at KC 4-14 at Cle 4-19 at Det 4-24 vs KC 4-29 at Bal 5-5 vs Det 5-10 vs Cin 5-16 at Oak 5-21 vs Cle 5-26 at Tor 6-2 at Tex Quintana 4-9 at KC 4-15 at Cle 4-20 vs Cle 4-25 vs KC 4-30 at Min 5-6 vs Det 5-11 at Mil 5-17 at Oak 5-22 vs Min 5-27 at Tor 6-3 at Tex Bold- Buy your tickets

Whaaa? Just report it when it happens. We know it's been discussed, Bruce.

Long way to go, but how many runs would this team score with 100% health? Eaton Ramirez Abreu LaRoche Garcia Gillaspie/Davidson Viciedo/Danks Flowers/Brantly Johnson/Sanchez

QUOTE (gatnom @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 11:34 AM) It's funny how close yet how far we seem at the same time. Finding an upgrade to Viciedo and having Rodon pitch like a middle of the rotation type of starter would go a long way to bridging that gap. I want to say I'm optimistic about Sanchez/Johnson and Garcia, but I just kind of have a bad feeling about those 2 positions for this year, which doesn't leave much room for error. The way Micah Johnson was flying through the system, and would have had a September callup, they must be pretty confident he can be a big leaguer soon. The schedule is heavily weighted with division games the first 5 weeks of the season, so it's going to be important to field the best team off the bat and get to winning.
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 10:46 AM) I hope he is right, but you just never know. Who would have thought Kershaw would get roughed up in the playoffs? Plus as much as Sale is incredible, he has tended to tail off late in the season and the Indians kill him a lot. He's great, but he's not done getting better.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 12, 2014 -> 10:42 AM) Wouldn't it be awesome if Matt Davidson could be that 1B/3B to spell Gillaspie/LaRoche against LHP? Yes, it would be. Too bad he stunk. I'd be curious to know if his defense was adequate this year.
