Hahn says trade talks have heated up.
And looking at it from the trading team's perspective, why would you give up the farm for a guy built like Sale? So far so good in durability, but stuff happens. The great ones that pitch to their late 30's are freaks of nature. For the same reason why teams didn't draft Chris Sale, they probably don't want to trade for him now either--especially with what the Sox would want in return.

Jon Morosi (SI) has really been selling the "trade Chris Sale" stuff. Not based on anything he's heard, but just his own idea. Kinda like Phil Rogers and a Chicago team getting Granderson.

Watch the Sox get Ichiro, because that would be such a White Sox thing to do.

We need a "Whoa" moment in the next four days. It would be funny if they did nothing.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 7, 2013 -> 08:34 AM) Can you summarize what he said on the score please? They talked about Konerko, which is old news at this point. Same old stuff... Trying to get players that fit into the long term like Abreu and Garcia. Would like to join the fun of making deals, but can't rush it. Pretty generic topics. If I had to guess, a lefty pitcher not named Sale is getting moved this week.

The Value of Chris Sale
QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) No, if it is was a sure thing they would pan out it would be a one for one trade. If you add 2-3 everyday players and a pitcher with the upside to match the guy you are giving up the gamble you are taking is that guy will never live up to those expectations, hopefully the contributions you are getting from those 2-3 players in 150+ games outweigh the step back you take in the 33 games that you replace that ace. The White Sox are in danger of becoming what the Mariners have been, you have one really great SP, one really good position players and not much support beyond that. I am not trying to advocate that he be traded no matter what, but if there is an offer that can correct a team in a hurry its needs to be considered. One great pitcher does not a world series team make, other wise Kershaw and King Felix would be dueling it out every year. Well said. Obviously they would have to be overwhelmed to move Sale now, but if they got a pitcher with ace upside, and drafted another one in June, while getting 2-3 offensive players in the process, it wouldn't be a dumb move.

That Carlos Perez catcher just makes way too much sense unless they trade for somebody before Thursday.

I'm using this as a catch all- Tekotte and McDade have been outrighted to AAA. 40-man at 38, including Belisario. Room for a Rule 5.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) The offer the ends up getting Price won't be enough to make us happy about Sale. Age and contract add much more value to Sale. There's no way the M's will give up enough for Sale when they can give up less for Price. Plus, come on. If you don't hold on to 24 year old stars signed affordably through their age 30 seasons as building blocks, what are you doing? What is the plan there? If the Sox could get multiple pieces- a future potential ace, and a couple premium bats, why not? You keep Santiago, Quintana, and maybe Taijuan Walker, plus they can draft a big arm next June if they want. I'm not saying "time to trade Chris Sale", but they shouldn't be telling teams "don't even ask".

Jon Morosi is saying the Mariners think they have the pieces to get David Price. The Sox have to listen on Chris Sale. They'd be nuts not to.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 6, 2013 -> 10:48 AM) Ugh, so many bad memories of getting trade raped by Cashman Good money to get off the books. Maybe take a couple low level prospects and a catcher--I know Romine is a name that has bounced around forever, but who knows.

Finally, I agree with Phil Rogers. https://twitter.com/philgrogers/status/408999694371549184 Alexei makes a lot of sense for the Yankees. But watch them get Brandon Phillips.

Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?
That was quick. Hey, the Mariners have to overpay to get what they want. I actually hope it works out for them.
-
Why Not Cano?
Ok, let's crank up the Chris Sale rumors.
-
Who willl win the Boras/Jay-Z agent war?
Cano should just take the 7/175 from the Yankees. But whatever. Wherever he ends up, I hope it's in the next 3-4 days. That would make the trade market more clear going into next week.

Sox to Make Hard Push for Granderson
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Dec 5, 2013 -> 11:51 AM) DeAza is good as gone anyway. Viciedo is pointless to dump for pennies on the dollar. I'm not sure how/why you would factor them into a Granderson addition anyway. Granderson = no 2nd round pick plus the money, and you're getting exactly what out of him? He's the type of player that should hit a sharp decline pretty soon, a speedy K power guy. No thanks, dumb move. We're not contenders & he should garner less trade interest 1-2 season from now than he has interest on the open market now, and his return would probably be pretty underwhelming. This is where Jerry Reinsdorf scares me. He doesn't want to watch 95 losses again. He wants at least a watchable product year-to-year, and hope to get a bunch of career years at the same time. So if Granderson fits in the big league budget, I can see him wanting Kenny and Rick to get him, and not worry about the draft pick.

Paul Konerko Returning to White Sox
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 4, 2013 -> 03:00 PM) Sox weren't likely to do much before PK decided anyway, so the idea that the team is complete as-is has no foundation in reality. I suppose it is possible they make no more moves - but I'd say that is highly unlikely. With all of the activity this week, I'm surprised the Sox didn't get something done too. Now I'm looking at De Aza, Viciedo, Gillaspie, Ramirez, Beckham...that's a whole lot of mediocre that nobody wants apparently. Sure, the Sox will get another catcher like Lobaton, but that might be it.

If Arizona wants Sale, start with Archie Bradley and Didi Gregorius, and then add 2-3 more. But they've already said Bradley isn't going anywhere.
