Nate Jones makes team as 12th pitcher
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 01:03 PM) I kind of feel bad for Bruney. It's hard to do much better than what he did. He got torched last night. It probably didn't mean anything, but it didn't help his cause.

Nate Jones makes team as 12th pitcher
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 31, 2012 -> 12:59 PM) I know nothing about him nor have heard of him until this spring. Another Santos type find? He was drafted by the Sox years ago. He's always had good stuff, but throwing strikes has been his problem. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/p...id=jones-001nat Fun fact: He was born the same day the space shuttle blew up.

ST: 3/31 vs Rockies
Rockies didn't bring much to Glendale today. Danks should have a good outing.

Yeah, they'll probably go with Jones because of the "stuff". Sox lose 7-2. Ok, one last time around the rotation, and it's go time.

...and he walks Colon. Jones strikes out the next two, and gets out of the inning without damage.

Jones comes in and walks Bourgeois on 4 pitches.

Bruney struck out 2 in his second inning, which was scoreless. He's out there for a third, and walked Hosmer to lead off.

Van Schouwen reporting Bruney yelled as he threw pitch to Butler that was hit for a double. AJ went to check on him, but he's ok. You know, for a mouthpiece like Merkin to say he thinks Jones and Stewart are making the team, maybe he knows how they're leaning. Bruney may have pitched his way off tonight. So the pen is probably: Stewart (long relief) Jones Ohman-L Reed Santiago-L Crain Thornton-L (closer)

Just looked at Jones' numbers this spring. 9.2 innings. 15 Ks, 8 hits, 6 walks 1.86 ERA Before tonight, Bruney's numbers were stellar. We'll see what happens.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 09:03 PM) Perhaps Stults was always a long shot to make the team, but his ERA's still around the low 3's, 3.38. The main question is do they want to let Stewart and Axelrod both continue to work as starters at Charlotte? You can see them going with Bruney and Stults as the last guy out of the bullpen/spot starter/innings eater in blowouts. Going by how they're talking, you'd have to think they will keep Stewart in the pen and send Axelrod down. I think Stewart is making the team. It sounds like Bruney vs Jones for the last spot. Personally, I like Bruney for a couple innings at a time in blowout games. Jones will probably get the call up at some point this season. Scott Merkin thinks Jones is making the team out of spring training, but I don't buy that yet. Of course now Bruney is in there now and went 3-0 on the first hitter before giving up a hit, and then walked the second batter. And now a double. Nate Jones, your table is ready.

I know they probably don't want to be there anymore, but how about a hit before the game ends?

Sox spring training Catch All thread
According to Merkin, Ventura may have the roster set on Sunday. Makes sense if they're traveling Monday night. His guess is Nathan Jones will beat out Brian Bruney, and Zach Stewart will beat out Dylan Axelrod for bullpen spots. Bruney is pitching tonight, so it could be huge for him.

Dunn - MVP But seriously... Beckham - Gold Glove Because that means he hit too, and that's how that award works.

Sox vs LAD spring game thread 3/29
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 29, 2012 -> 05:36 PM) So it looks like the Thornton will be closing to start the season.. MEH. It would appear that way. Hope they can get away with it for a while. Stults starts tomorrow night, with Humber pitching a minor league game. Bruney will relieve Stults. Sunday on CSN-- Peavy vs Latos. That should be watchable.
