Official Recruiting Thread II

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:32 AM) Expectations last year for a lot of people were "try to make the tournament." It doesn't matter what expectations were last year, we already have the results. Saying "they should definitely be a tourney team" is foolish. I guess we'll see come March. -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 29, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Scholarship players with BT experience: Egwu Abrams Bertrand That makes it hard for me to imagine any scenario where they are better than last year. Especially looking at the front court. Because the front court was significantly better last year? Rice has division 1 experience (and did pretty well) as well as a full year's practice with a BT team, Ekey is a 5th year senior with Div. 1 experience, and Starks played in a power conference and will be a better 3 point shooter than anybody we had last year. Last year the front court was Sam McLaurin (a guy who played in the big south), Griffey (who was terrible his first three years in college and wasn't great last year), and Egwu (a sophomore coming off a season where he averaged less than 10 minutes per game). -

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ May 29, 2013 -> 09:20 AM) There is no way they are better than last year. No way. You do realize what people's expectations were this time last year, right? How soon people forget... And I'm not saying it WILL happen, I'm just saying I won't be surprised if it does. To say that it's not possible is pretty foolish. -

QUOTE (Brian @ May 29, 2013 -> 08:22 AM) From what I hear, Starks should have no problem getting that waiver. This would be huge. The Illini should definitely be a tourney team if he can play this year. The upcoming team will replace guys like Griffey, Paul, and Richardson with Ekey, Rice, and Starks. I'm not saying they will be able to fill those shoes, but with improvement from Abrams, Egwu, and Bertrand along with the incoming freshman I wouldn't be surprised if this coming team is better than last years. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 29, 2013 -> 07:55 AM) Find another thread. No one anywhere is taking Chris Bosh over Paul George or Roy Hibbert right now. I seriously think Lebron and Wade's styles (probably moreso Lebron's) have been a detriment to Bosh's game. The guy averaged 24 and 11 with a PER of 25 his last year in Toronto. He averaged over 22 PPG on pretty good efficiency 5 straight years in Toronto. He would probably be the best big man in the NBA if he had his own team. He's been given the role of being a spot-up shooter and it seems like it has really made him less aggressive. Why is he a spot-up shooter? It's all about spacing for Lebron (and somewhat Wade).

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 29, 2013 -> 07:58 AM) I'll play meathead - although accurate meathead. Michael Jordan would have NEVER done that. "I don't even know how to flop"- Lebron James, a few days ago.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:28 PM) He's stayed out of foul trouble tonight. He rarely ever plays 40 minutes (he averages under 30 for the season). edit: he's actually had a few 40 minute games this playoffs. Interesting. He's averaging 23 and 12 over 4 games this series. He's dominating them.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 28, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Hibbert is fat and slow Today's NBA is so much better. No more centers. The game is evolving. Look at YouTube. Kobe is more explosive than mike... Sigh, will he ever stop?

That blown call was devastating. Wow.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 28, 2013 -> 01:34 PM) They must've written that in after seeing him again. There's the scene where Maeby doesn't recognize him either.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 27, 2013 -> 07:51 PM) And yet, in significantly fewer games, Jordan had more 50 point games than Kobe and way more 40 point games. Jordan also scored 40 plus 9 straight times in his 86-87 season and scored 40+ 37 times that year (which included 8 50+ games which is more than Kobe ever had in a single season). Another telling stat is scoring in the playoffs. Jordan had 8 50+ point games in the playoffs. Kobe had 1 (and it was 50 on the dot I think). Playoff defenses are generally better and jordan was clearly more explosive in the playoffs.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 26, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) For what it's worth, I got... 1. Jordan 2. Magic 3. Kareem 4. Wilt 5. Bird 6. Russell 7. Duncan 8. Shaq 9. Hakeem 10. LeBron 11. West 12. Kobe 13. Moses 14. Havlicek 15. Erving/Robertson You have a good list.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) Kobe passed Magic/Bird after his 4th and 5th rings. Magic/Bird were liabilities defensively. Kobe (not now) but at his best was an all-league defender who could drop 55 on you whenever he felt like it. Cool
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 26, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) He's the best pf of all time. Where that puts him on a list of every NBA player I'm not sure but he's one of the best to ever play the game. This is without question. There's an immortal 6 of Jordan, Russell, bird, magic, Kareem, and wilt though. Objectively? I think Duncan is the best big man of that group, but accomplishment wise those are the 6. Kobe doesn't belong anywhere near those guys either way.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Well, they're two of the, what, top 6 players to ever play the game. They both had great seasons. Though it is curious how Duncan qualifies at C this year. You think Duncan and Kobe are top 6 players? Duncan is probably my 2nd favorite player ever after mike, but seriously? You're the best
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 25, 2013 -> 11:02 PM) And see you later, Memphis. Shouldn't be here in the first place. Man, Spurs get Lakers with no Kobe, Warriors with no Lee, and this Memphis team that can't shoot. But today's nba is the best!!111!1! Lol, 40% of the all nba team was drafted two decades ago.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 25, 2013 -> 07:11 PM) Dude, everybody dunked on Ewing. MJ, Pip, Penny, Kemp, etc. There's even some vid of quinarvy dunking on Ewing. I just gotta find it. I don't know what this means. Are you trying to say that dunking over Chris Andersen is more impressive than dunking on Ewing because other great players did it?
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 25, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) I text messaged George before the game and asked him could he prove to this thread that he's more athletic than Scottie Pippen. But god damn. I didn't expect that. Ewing was a bit better than Birdman. The George dunk was gross though. I agree

LeBron James and Paul George when guarding each other Eastern Conference finals James George* Points 45 29 FG 18-31 10-13 Turnovers 8 1 Points per play 1.07 1.71 * George: 6-for-7, 16 points, zero TO in Game 2 http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id...of-lebron-james Interesting. I've said many times that lebrons M2M defense was grossly overrated. This supports me a bit. Yes, Lebron can guard rose man to man and he could guard Nate man to man, but Paul George just blows right by him and defecates on the Birdman. Makes sense.

Lebron doing what lebron does.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 24, 2013 -> 09:38 PM) OMG George. So sick
-
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ May 24, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) To be fair, he probably would have gone top-5 last year. He's the lastest victim of the "overexposure slide" following Joakim Noah and Jared Sullinger (though his back affected that too). I agree. It doesn't change my overall opinion of him though. I figured the extra year would hurt because it usually does. Another person that was overexposed was josh mcroberts. He was supposed to be a top 5 pick at one point and ended up in the second round.

QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ May 23, 2013 -> 01:04 PM) Hey Guys- I am an avid collector of White Sox bobbles. I have a few extras and am looking to trade for ones that I need. If you have some that you are not displaying or would like to trade, let me know. Send me a message. Any old season ticket holders looking to unload some? Just let me know. Send me a message here or at [email protected]. I can let you know what I have to trade then. Thanks! I have Harold Baines. I can just give it to you if you want it.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 24, 2013 -> 12:57 PM) Who? Anyway, George is taller, longer and can jump higher. The dunk vid I posted just cinched it. There ain't five mofos in the world that can do that s***. Lateral is probably a wash. It is what it is, dude. George is right there with healthy back Dwight, Blake, Westbrook, LeBron, pre-vagina Rose, Josh Smith, AI2 as the sickest athletes the sport has ever seen. A 5'9 white guy that won the college slam dunk contest. I'm not going to argue with you because it's pointless.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2013 -> 11:58 AM) Supposedly he was working on an outside game during the season but never showed it also. I believe he also had some fairly excellent athletic numbers at the NBA combine, including one of the highest jumps ever for a guy 7 feet or above. Haha, I didn't see this before I posted. So good.
