  1. Q says Kane "might miss some time " . Will know more tomorrow.
  2. A win is a win I guess. 9 out of 16 possible points on the homestand. Now we wait on the other Chicago sports injury.
  3. That hit on Kaner did not look good. Hope it's nothing serious, but the way he was holding his left arm, uh oh.
  4. Good for Leddy, he ended up in a good spot too on Long Island with that roster getting better. No way in hell could the Hawks have given him that much money anytime soon. These cap casualties would be easier to stomach if there weren't so many current players on the roster that weren't earning their keep.
  5. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 24, 2015 -> 08:00 AM) What's really confusing is, I can't seem to find a reliable set of tie-breaker rules, if there even are any. So if some combination of Kansas, Iowa State and/or Oklahoma finish with the same conference record, and the head-to-head is an even 1-1 tie... who is the conference champion? I just think they share it, no tiebreaker. (Other than tournament seeding) At least four of Kansas's consecutive titles were shared.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) Jerry Crasnick ‏@jcrasnick 9m9 minutes ago Dustin McGowan gets a big-league deal from #dodgers with $1M roster bonus and $1.5M in potential performance bonuses. The Dodgers pitching staff is the early favorite for most games on the DL.
  7. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 12:06 PM) thank for the updates, but i believe, for me at least, this is as i said the straw that broke the camel back. For not signing a pitcher who may not throw a single pitch in the majors in 2015???
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Which means the Red Sox need to come up with at least $40 million, in cash, within a month. Does anybody want to buy some snow?
  9. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:36 AM) An MLB fund designed to funnel the money into administration of international talent acquisition. It's been an interesting point of controversy -- league officials have said that the fund was never designed to be even a fraction of what it's become. Many speculate that the money will be used to implement an international draft ASAP. So they were surprised that teams were willing to greatly overspend for top talent? Silly. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:37 AM) An empty pool. They cash the check for $30 million (getting ones), fill the pool, and all the execs at the MLB corporate office go skinny dipping. And there goes my breakfast.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 08:24 AM) Reporting around $30M, Red Sox. Which actually means $60M the team has to pay out. Where does that extra $30 million penalty go to? Bud Selig's pension?
  11. QUOTE (LDF @ Feb 23, 2015 -> 06:50 AM) it wasn't just the signing of Beachy that got to me, it was prob the straw that broke the camels back so to speak. first, i have always stated that as an owner, he has the right to make money. but earlier in the offseason the FO was stating they didn't have money only enuf to spend xx amount to improve. then the FO said, they couldn't spend without the fans supporting them and spending money to help spend on FA's. then someone found the TV money deal on, i don't know, maybe forbes. the bottom line, is this team to sooo close to doing something that has happen once in the last 10 yrs. i look back at JR and his legacy is going to be 1 ws where several could have been done, b/c of being frugal, too frugal. the sox can make the playoff, this team is loaded, but there are holes. i am a fan and i been saying this team can make the playoff before many posters and some doubt it, that is ok, but i am not blind to know that there are holes. You must have been watching a different team the last 10 years. I saw a franchise that was constantly at the top of the division in spending, yet consistently underachieved. Until the last two seasons, they were at a $100+ million payroll for seven straight seasons. I'd blame KW and Ozzie more than Jerry.
  12. Nordstrom and Darling called up to Chicago. Raanta and Hartman sent to Rockford. Carcillo is still a Blackhawk
  13. I can think of 55 million factors that were more important in recruiting them than Cooper was.
  14. Why is Carcillo even on the roster? That was one of the worst fights I have ever seen
  15. QUOTE (dewssox79 @ Feb 21, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) They really need back end defensive help badly. Glencross makes sense. Im curious if Shaw gets dealt. TVR can't get healthy soon enough. This Rozsival s*** needs to end ASAP.
  16. Why does beer just taste better on the Metra?
  17. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 21, 2015 -> 12:50 PM) To put it in perspective, the difference from 2005 (and our overachieving bullpen) and 2006 (bullpen regression to the mean) was 9 wins. That's the kind of output we'd need this year to hit 90 wins based on our players' track records IMO. Sure the bullpen regressed to the mean, but all 4 returning starters saw big jumps in their ERA from 2005 to 2006. They have just as much to do with the 9 win decrease as the bullpen, if not more. Mark Buehrle - 2005: 3.12 ERA 2006: 4.99 ERA Freddy Garcia - 2005: 3.87 ERA 2006: 4.53 ERA Jon Garland - 2005: 3.50 ERA 2006: 4.51 ERA Jose Contreras - 2005: 3.61 ERA 2006: 4.27 ERA
  18. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Feb 21, 2015 -> 01:25 AM) Leddy was the biggest mistake, followed by Ladd. Leddy may not have been a "Q" player, but Oduya and Rozsival have been brutal this season, and either of those clowns could have been traded to get the Hawks under the cap entering this season, and they went with Leddy. Just didn't make sense. Ladd I always thought was a mistake, but I think the front office knew that too, but didn't have much of a choice. I'm just sick of watching both the Hawks and Bulls underachieve so much this year. I know it could be much worse, and all that matters is the post-season, but it's just the way they are losing. The poor efforts. Hard to accept that. Agreed about Ladd. During the 2011 and 2012 struggles, I always said that was the one player I really missed. Like you said though, I doubt they had any choice in that matter. The Leddy for Barker trade was such a steal, it sucks they couldn't keep him long term. Maybe if they hadn't paid Bickell so much or of Crawford wasn't making $6 million, they could have kept him. But at least Q has his veteran security blanket in Rozsival
  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 21, 2015 -> 06:18 AM) So you're looking at the Central being winnable with fewer than 90 wins? I think so. 87 or 88 wins should do the trick.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 10:13 PM) As expected, his comments stole the headlines today. So we'll see if it was smart or not later. I don't see how in this day and age anybody anywhere is a shoo in for the playoffs because of the use/overuse of bullpens. I mean if our bullpen is trash, our team will be trash. Same with everybody, including KC. They are now banking on the same formula every night. They want to get to 7/8/9 inning guys every night. No law says those 3 have to be as effective as they were late last season/postseason. I personally would love if baseball/Sox brass would allow its starters to go seven full innings. It's a lot easier to navigate two innings than 3 or 4 IMO. If our closer is as good as expected, we'd be in great shape just getting through the eighth. I realize that is an impossibility; starters only go six nowadays or six and change. If every starter went seven full innings, your closer would probably not have as many leads to save.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 10:15 PM) I realize that . It's just life with the cap but it gets compounded when you're giving away your young talent and guys like Smith anf Kruger are not scoring points while the clock ticks on guys like Sharp and Hossa . I know Coach Q really covets 2 way players but the forwards he keeps still need to get some points. Watching the Hawks has been painful lately. So many turnovers . Lots of problems at the blue line and no cap space tp make any moves unless they rid themselves of a guy like Sharp or Bickell. It just seems like they're holding on to some guys a little too long and have a revolving door of young guys they won't allow to have growing pains. The talent level just isn't what is used to be . The 2 Cups were beautiful and they've done a great job making hockey relevent in Chicago again but they are in danger of staying the course too long. They paid Bickell because of his playoff success, which was a bad move and most of the people in this thread have always recognized that from day one. I wonder how much trade value he would even have anymore. Sharpie has kind of hit a wall this year, but he had a career year last season, so it wasn't that easy to predict. Hossa is almost untradeable given how his contract was affected by the new CPA. I think Kruger has been great in his role as 4th line center. I keep waiting for Ben Smith to break out, and it's not happening. In regards to your last sentence, let's not forget they were inches away from probably winning a 3rd Cup last year. They have been wrong on some talent decisions, and Q is partly to blame. But even though they are struggling right now, I doubt anybody wants to pay them in the playoffs now, they are still dangerous. Teams go through bad stretches all the time.
  22. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 10:03 PM) Not happening Colorado just got 2 goals on a 2 minute 2 man advantage. Then Crawford gave up what had to be the worst goal of the year. Trying to pass a dump in that was on net he completely whiffed and puck goes in. That fell apart in a hurry. Luckily, they aren't gonna make the playoffs this year, so don't have to worry about them in April or May.
  23. Judging by this thread, it's gonna be a LONG spring training.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Feb 20, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) Aaron Cosby no longer with the Illinois basketball program. What an incredible disappointment. Two years of proven production at a major conference including a really strong sophomore year and he was horrible this year and didn't even make it through the season. Meh. Sometimes I feel like people get way too excited about transfers. Sure sometimes teams strike gold, but a lot of the time, there is a reason why the school is letting the kid transfer in the first place.
