QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) I hope for the Sox sake plan A isn't Odalis Perez I wasn't saying he should/could be plan A nor was I hoping for him to be, but I was throwing his name out there if Roberts, Duscherer, Duke, etc etc aren't available.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:43 PM) Cardinals blow another game. Ryan Braun is freaking awesome. Come on Florida. Cubs win. Damnit. PS: I hate Len Kasper. Marmol sucks.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 08:47 PM) I bet plan A is Brian Roberts. Well, I assumed plans A-?? were in terms of pitchers. Never mind. I wonder about Aaron Cook...
-
I wonder who A and B are then? I hope it's not Washburn. Again, I wouldn't mind Odalis Perez.
-
Here comes Hanley with 2 on, nobody out in the 9th vs Marmol, Cubs up 6-3. And he struck out. S***.
-
Florida gets bases loaded with an out, DeRosa makes a diving catch that everyone assumes is awesome but it wasn't so it's then 6-3, only for Marmol to K up Willingham.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) Ok so according to Cowley (he's on the Score right now) Duchscherer is NOT a priority for the Sox right now, he's plan C or D, the only reason the Sox would deal for Duch is if 1 or 2 other deals fall through. Did he say who plan A and B is? And wouldn't they deal for Duchscherer if 1 or 2 deals DON'T fall through?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 05:57 PM) Not necessarily. Teams are always looking for pitchers. He's cheap and has been on fire this year. Beane may wait until a few minutes before the deadline to see if anyone is ridiculously desperate. If that's the case, why are we giving them arguably our best position player prospect and arguably our best pitching prospect?
-
Well, I'm not sure if I'd be in favor of the move or not, if it happened. He's a great SP this year but like many of you have said, arm troubles due to fatigue are definitley possible. However, hopefully KW makes the right move- if he got Duchscherer, he'd show us we're going for it all this year. I say go for it and pray.

I'd give them Juan Uribe and a 24-pack of soda for Halladay? Fair, right?
-
I'd take a 2009 2nd and 3rd, and then a 2010 2nd for Devin and then pray to the Lord above we get impact guys like a Tillman, Alex Brown, Vasher, Hester, or Berrian.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:32 PM) kind of like the hawkgasm after the quentin homerfun?? Hawk after Q's HR- "YOU CAN PUT IT ON THE BOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRRDDD EEEEEEEEEEYESSSSSS!!" Santo after Reed's HR- "UJGBSJHSWHFBWHFQDMMXKLALAOIEWYPQKIENFMDOIKSDHD" Big difference.

QUOTE (thedoctor @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) ok, the 'kenny never makes a big move at the deadline' nonsense has to stop. does anyone really think he has a philosophy that says 'i won't make a big deal at the deadline that will help my team'? gmafb. what gm makes a big-name deal every year? no one. the market and your resources dictate what move you make or don't make. when the deal was right kw picked up a guy who was key. when it wasn't, he didn't. personally i don't think he's going to make a big deal. but that's because i don't think we have the resources to get it done, not because 'kw never does big deadline deals.' jesus, could we have at least a slight bit of sophistication when we look at stuff like this. sheesh. Well, no s***. But KW never does. Some GMs sometimes do.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 02:10 PM) Freddy Garcia was the biggest name on the pitching trade market in 2004 IIRC. Lowe, Carpenter, Clemens, Clement, and Pavano were all bigger names, IMO.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 01:52 PM) All highlighted players were important parts of the World Series team, characterizing them as "whatever" moves does them quite a disservice. Also, a deadline deal for another player that helped win the world series was Esteban Loaiza for Jose Contreras in the last hour before the deadline. That's what I'm saying- at the time, they were whatever moves that nobody thought would help. He never brings in a huge name.

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 12:20 PM) What is so funny about it?? I did not hear it. Well of course Ronny Ranto did his call where he starts screaming incoherent BS in the background, and after the byte was done, Kurkjian, Golic, and Greenberg all laughed for a good 3-6 seconds.
-
I really can't trust KW to make a huge move at this time of the year. Sure, he made a couple "whatever moves" (Blum, Timo, Willie), a couple average moves (Everett, Alomar), and one good move (Freddy) over the years in general, just not at this time, but none have been huge to bring in a superstar player like a Roberts. When this is done and we actually get a player like Atkins, Roberts, etc., I'll believe it.
-
Mike&Mike and Kurkjian were just laughing at Reed Johnson's HR call by Santo.

QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 11:44 AM) The important thing will be that Quentin is wearing his jersey. What are the pitching matchups this weekend? I believe: Floyd vs Robertson Danks vs Verlander Javy vs Miner EDIT- Been beaten to it.

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 24, 2008 -> 09:31 AM) So Hester gets paid 445,000 a year, and is being fined 15,000 per day for missing training camp. So he basically has 33 days before he is broke. Who do you think blinks first? Not to mention he probably bought himself a car, his mom a car, and his mom a house. -
QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:35 PM) A sneak peek at the upcoming Brewers versus Cubs at Miller Park. CC Sabathia versus Ted Lilly Ben Sheets versus Zambrano Parra versus Dempster Bush versus Harden Split, IMO. CC over Lilly and Parra over Dempster.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 11:33 PM) I was chanting "MVP" whilst holding my "Q-uperman" sign that everyone at the ballpark tonight REALLY enjoyed. Last game I was on the bigscreen 3 times with it, and my cousin said i was on Baseball Tonight, tonight, with my sign. We all saw it as well. Anybody have another pic of it?

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 10:20 PM) Exactly. The equipment guy or somebody should bring some whipped cream or some pies and put 'em in the clubhouse fridge so they don't get that gross shaving cream in their eyes. Great comeback win. Ozzie, who of course was tossed, gave a great quote in the yahoo sports story: "They never give up,” Guillen said of his players. “They can play without me, but I can’t manage without them.” Hopefully it'll carry over to the road trip. This team may have some weaknesses but it has some fight in it. IMO, we have to go atleast 5-5 on this road-trip- win 1 in Detroit, 2 in Minnesota, and 2 in KC. Although, winning 2/3 in Detroit and 3/3 in KC is possible. But we HAVE to win 2 in Minnesota at the least.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:37 PM) Hm, I think it looks better with the glow cause I had a tough time cutting it, but I suck at this stuff. Slav should really get his ass in gear and clean up my mess. I think the glow makes it look sexy. And that's a bonus, when you're talking about Sexy Q.
