  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:41 PM) He targets all religions. I'm Catholic and more amused than offended by his not accepting there is a God. I think he's a star in this situation. It's easy to take the "cops are bad; teachers are prejudiced" angle on this one. Bill had questions. Mark Cuban has questions. I'm very disappointed the media is not interested in flushing out a good accurate story here. If Ahmad is a fake that's not good copy; it's going after a minority copy. I saw what Cuban had to say, all of his anecdotes as to what actually happened were second hand and he accused the kid of having his sister feed him what to say to him on his call with him. Although he did say the kid was interested and more engaged when they talked about technology. If anything, I think Maher just had him on to feed his narrative some more.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:38 PM) I want more facts but my position is the cops over-reacted in cuffing him. The facts are blurry. One report I saw said the initial teacher the kid was trying to impress told him it was a nice job but don't bring the clock around the school or people might think it's a bomb. The kid did anyway. My point is I think there's a real possibility daddy set this all up. As far as kids and educational activities outside of school ... did you see Alpha's video of how it probably took the kid about 30 seconds to make the clock? He definitely showed no innovation in building his clock. It's rather deceptive actually and arguably worthy of detention if he was passing that clock off as something he made, not ripped off Radio Shack. I once put a portable radio on a mop and thought it was cool when I was 11... So yeah...kids think doing something simple might be cool, is there a problem with that? Do you think he should have invented the new iPhone instead?
  3. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:08 PM) Trying to imagine the situation where the people who overzealously jailed an innocent minor for bringing a clock to school are not the issue, but those who overzealously praised a student whose clock was not actually that impressive. These people think that if the clock wasn't his invention and that he just stuck it in a briefcase, then he didn't really put much effort into the project; therefore he must have an intent to alarm teachers at the school that he had a bomb, leading him to be arrested and lauded over social media like some sort of wiz kid. So here's the problem with this theory: 1. If the family set all of this up, then they're putting their child and themselves at risk of possible arrest (that was the point of this hypothetical situation, right?). Not to mention their kid not being able to go to the school again, possible suspension, expulsion, them having to uproot the entire family, etc. There's a lot of risks there, it just so happened that things went well for him. 2. There were so many things out of his control: teacher becoming alarmed, school officials calling the police, police handcuffing and arresting him. 3. In a country where certain people fear Muslims and Islam in general, especially in the state of Texas, do you really think this family knew that they were going to get support from a vast majority of the country? How could they have they possibly predicted that they would get gifts from Silicon Valley CEOs, tours to MIT, and an invitation to the White House? In the world view of a Muslim American citizen, I'm willing to bet their view of American media is not overwhelmingly favorable to them.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2015 -> 04:02 PM) LOL. Took the kid all of one minute to probably make his clock. I just challenge the media to keep covering this and if the police ever get to interview the dad that that is made public as well. This was a rush to judgment story and Obama, Hillary and Microsoft should not have overreacted without letting the story play out. Of course nobody wants the story to play out any more cause of media bias. The media wanted this story to be: Genius student of color very very proud of clock he made. Big bad school officials think it's a bomb and call cops. Cops handcuff kid (I'm not backing cops 100 percent on this; very stupid; they fell for the alleged trap right there), no charges filed, kid gets put into the 20 minutes of fame cooker where President, Hilly, all the morning shows want him on now til that 20 minutes of fame runs out. Update the story when he gets scholarship to Yale. Update the story 10 years after that when he's a success in life. The story just might not fit that agenda, but too late ... media already made up its mind how the story will play out. Takes a cool guy like Bill Maher to say ... WAIT! This kid must really be a genius after all... And you realize Bill Maher is an atheist who will take any opportunity to s*** on Muslims, Christians, Jews, and any religion in general right? He surely doesn't have an agenda here...
  5. So you think that this family and 14 year old kid knew that they were going to get media attention for this? They knew he'd get arrested and handcuffed? They knew that a majority of the social media world as well as the freaking president of the United States, MIT, and numerous Silicon Valley CEOs would invite him on tours? If that's really the case, can they tell me what the winning lotto numbers are for tomorrow or what the optimal Fanduel lineup is for next weekend? They must be able to see the f***ing future. School officials and local police screwed up. And had they not have screwed up, this wouldn't have been an issue in the first place.
  6. What's wrong with the Colts offense? They can't even get a first down.
  7. Randy Wolf is still pitching?
  8. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 09:47 AM) The Cardinals were bound to have pitching problems eventually. They've been getting very lucky all year with LOB% and in RISP situations. Definitely. I'm surprised they haven't had more slumps this year. Their lineup is more or less pieced together and their rotation is full of guys who have out-performed their peripherals.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 07:12 AM) That game made me sick last night. Andy Reid has got to be the most consistently atrocious game caller in the league. Opening drive, moving the ball well, Charles running well, get down to the 2. Let's run three straight passing plays in which none of the primary routes even get into the endzone! Result: Turnover and loss of 3-7 points. End of the half, up 7. Sure, let's call a risky out route instead of just running out the clock. Result: Turnover and 7 points to Denver. Late in the 4th quarter, again moving the ball well, what the hell was that WR reverse option pass play? Seriously? Not the time to get cute. One play later, turnover. I'm not going to fault him for the end of the game thing, you expect your star player to hang on to the ball there, but the odds of an inside draw from your own 20 and 30 seconds left (1 TO) leading to anything promising is very remote. KC had 5 turnovers (2 in Denver red zone, 2 in own red zone), went 0-for on 3rd down, dropped probably 3-4 balls that should have been intercepted and had almost 100 yards in penalties. And still should have won that game. Just a complete f***ing disaster. You can't give away games in the NFL like this. I'd bet a good amount of money that KC misses the playoffs by one game again this year. Just watch. As a guy who's owned Jamaal Charles in fantasy for 3 straight years and who watches a lot of Chiefs games because of that, I hate Andy Reid too. I can't image how bad it must be to watch such a talented team under-perform as a fan of the team though...
  10. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) Karma apparently very real for Coghlan. What happened?
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:42 AM) You're right on that. It's even still going on now, and it started in mid-April. I looked back at Lawrie's slide and it wasn't nearly as bad as Coghlan's. It was a much closer play and Lawrie slid into the bag. His momentum led him over the bag and he crashed into Escobar, who was kneeling trying to catch a throw for the force out. You could probably argue that Lawrie's slide was a bit late as well and maybe a bit close to the side of the base Escobar was standing on. So once again, good on the Pirates for not starting a huge bean ball war, although I feel like Coghlan should probably get one in the back in the next series.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 10:27 AM) Next weekend's series might be interesting, as their pre-game/post-game show host tweeted this 16 hours ago Dan Zangrilli Source: Pirates officials not amused by Maddon's comment(s) Maddon's comments were pretty bad...how could a guy who just got taken out, grabbed his knee for a few minutes, and then helped off the field have plantar fasciitis? If that's supposed to be a joke, that's just awful.
  13. I know what Reid was thinking there by running Charles...it's unfortunate he fumbled.
  14. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 10:04 PM) Tsuyoshi Nishioka, I believe, yes. There's some players who hate Asians, apparently.
  15. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 01:39 PM) That slide was really late. There is a difference between a hard slide and a late slide. I would think Bryant or Rizzo would pay for it but its the cubs. The Pirates really took the high road on this one. Lawrie slid hard into Escobar early in the season and that started a bean-ball war of epic proportions. Take out slides should be legal, but the runner should have his feet inside the base path, not horizontal to the base trying to trip the fielder. Kang wasn't even that close to second when he got slid into. Coghlan went well out of his way to kick Kang in the knee.
  16. If this was a one time thing for Coghlan, I wouldn't be suspicious of his slide, even though it was very high. But he did the same thing to Iwamura back in 2009. If MLB is going to protect catchers, they might as well start protecting SS and 2B on the pivot play.
  17. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 12:57 AM) Is it as shocking as people thought he was really good? I think wins can still define a pitcher. He has a losing record every year except for one. Look at Sale. He is on a bad team and he had one losing season. I look at Smarj's stats and where does it in any way say "big contract" or ace. What separates and ace is the team and fans feel more confident of a victory. But Q destroys this theory. If he were pitching for a team that produces runs - 15 game winner, Sale 17 game winner. The title of this one hurts. http://www.csnchicago.com/white-sox/contin...amardzija-trade Samardzija pitched for the Cubs when they couldn't score him runs. He was an excellent pitcher last year. What he's done this year is not indicative of what kind of pitcher he was before.
  18. It's shocking how bad Samardzija is right now...
  19. Sonny Gray sure loves to wear down late in the year.
  20. Chip Kelly's offense is looking pretty bad right now.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) This was a thought I had yesterday as well. It is the one thing that makes a lot of sense. It's so odd that only they light him up while every other team can't hit him to save their lives.
  22. I haven't watched any of Sale's starts against the Twins this year...so why exactly is he getting lit up against Minnesota? Do they know about him tipping his pitches or something?
  23. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 10:48 PM) Tony Romo is an elite QB. Top 5 easily. What a finish. It's crazy how his reputation has changed over the past 2 years.
  24. How does Coughlin still have a job?
