  1. At this point, just sit fastball on Wright. Make him throw that knuckler for a strike.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:41 PM) fixed lol yup. When things aren't going well, you do stupid stuff. Wright's knuckler is on point tonight.
  3. Swihart getting thrown out at second is such a 2015 Red Sox thing to do.
  4. Gets hit in leg by hard come backer, throws 98 MPH...that's Chris Sale for you.
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 03:12 PM) Our lineup is impatient with no power, so i'll take an upgrade where I can get it. Royals have more or less proven you don't need power to score runs. But yeah I'd take Cespedes at the right price, but I think there are better options out there AND the Tigers will be asking for more than we're willing to part with.
  6. Love Cespedes' power, but would like someone who walks more than 5% of the time. Our lineup is inpatient as hell as is.
  7. We got our new .200 hitter guys!

    Mr. Robot:
  9. QUOTE (wuk @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) Price just went to Tor..... How do we feel about this? Their starting pitching is still meh
  10. Good trade for the Brewers. They really need pitching and Wheeler was pretty damn good before he tore his UCL.
  11. Yeah if the price for him is really as low as a fringe prospect or two, I don't see why San Diego would let him go for that. $15 million a year for a guy who can potential put up 5 WAR is a bargain. I'd rather let that ride out if I'm going to get nothing in return at the deadline.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 02:21 PM) Offensively, they are far apart though. I don't live in a vacuum and with Kemp I have a track record and a recent trend of him mashing (which is in line with his historical norms). I also have the whole park adjusted thing too...cause even if you were equally as good offensively, playing in Petco vs. the Cell is a definite drag on your offensive production. There's a ~10 point difference in their wRC+, not big enough of a difference to take on Kemp's contract IMO. And like I said, he's hit well at Petco for some odd reason.
  13. You can't fix stupid. Schwarber might be a 3-4 win player, assuming he isn't an absolute disaster in LF, but Sale is Sale. You don't trade 3 fairly cheap years of a Cy Young candidate for 6 years of a guy who might be an all-star.
  14. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:51 PM) Kemp has posted an OPS+ > 100 every year but his rookie year. 5 times he has posted an OPS+ > 120. 3 times he has posted an OPS+ > 135. Let me know when Avi has done any of those things once. Kemp is also looking much more like a guy who is getting comfortable (and he seems to be trending positively from a health perspective). He also has posted a positive WAR every year in his career, with an average WAR of just over 3 in his 10 career seasons. His per game WAR looks even better (given his injuries). It is disrespectful to compare Avi and Matt Kemp's current production. If you are talking Avi, you have to be projecting him and I struggle how well you can project him given how bad he is defensively and I don't know with his patience if he'll be able to hit enough to overcome that. Kemp on the other hand, has proven, that he can absolutely carry a line-up when he's rolling and has done so for full season stretches. No question Kemp has raked before, the question is will he rake with the Sox? We have enough hitters with consistency issues and consistency is one of Kemp's biggest flaws. And I'm just looking at the numbers this year, really. There is no comparison between Garcia and Kemp looking back at past seasons. But offensively, they're not so far apart this year. Kemp had an absolutely awful month that really dragged his numbers down and he's hitting again though.
  15. 2.5 back if we win tonight? Holy crap.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:41 PM) What about Matt Kemp? Padres are selling and Kemp, after a slow start, has had a torrid July and seems to be getting comfortable. We know he isn't the greatest defensively, but presuming you get the cash that the Dodgers sent, his contract is no longer an albatross and he'd be a major offensive upgrade. Kenny has had interest in the past and Kenny always gets his guy. To be frank, I could more easily swallow a Kemp move then some of the other names (given his contract after the Dodgers ate all that payroll). Kemp and CarGo are almost at the opposite end of the ball park spectrum. One hits in a hitter's heaven, the other one hits in a pitcher's heaven. The weird thing is that Kemp's been hitting far better at Petco than on the road. I wouldn't be that opposed to Kemp if CarGo isn't available or is too expensive, but do keep in mind that Kemp's wOBA is like 9 points higher than Avi's and neither are great defenders.
  17. Starlin Castro's been worse than Alexei this year. That's very hard to pull off.
  18. These next two games will decide the fate of the season, good thing we have our two best starters going in them. Wade Miley was actually the Red Sox's best healthy starter...it's no wonder why they've been awful, all their starting pitchers have ERAs north of 5.
  19. In what world is this a good trade? lmao

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) So there goes my Slater isn't real theory on Mr Robot. How so?
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 11:38 AM) Moto G is an excellent option that is affordable but not so underpowered that it will frustrate you now or in a couple years. Yup, the $220 version is the way to go here IMO. That $180 version with 1 GB of RAM and only 8 GB of storage seems a bit underwhelming.
  22. QUOTE (Tex @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) My wife hates to spend money on cell phones and hangs onto hers for years past their useful date. We are on T-Mo and have had nothing but great service and coverage for years, thus, not looking to change. Any advice on a mid price phone? Motorola just released the new Moto G. $220 off-contract for a phone with fairly decent specs (5 inch 720P screen, quad core processor, 2 GB RAM, LTE support, decent camera, etc.). https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-g
  23. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:50 AM) I want Cespedes way more than CarGo. I think we have enough hitters with BB% hovering around 4-5%. Cargo's not the most patient hitter either, but he'll at least be league average walk-wise.
  24. Upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 last night. I'm pretty impressed so far. It feels way better than Windows 8.1.
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 01:01 AM) The question is whether that upgrade is worth $42.3 million...not whether he's the better player, because he clearly is/has been (when he can stay healthy and on the field), and he's also a much better defender, which also carries more and more value than it used to. Cargo's wOBA on the road is .332 this year. Not great, but above average. Put him at the Cell and I think he can give us .340. Put that together with decent defense and I think you have yourself a 3 win player provided he's healthy. At this point, Avi is replacement level. He simply doesn't hit for enough power and doesn't walk enough to become something more than an average hitter at the plate and his defense in RF is pretty bad. Even if he becomes a .350 wOBA guy (I think that can still happen), his defense in RF is still bad. You're basically looking at Jermaine Dye at the end of his career, a 1-2 win player. FWIW, I actually think he can succeed if he does go to Coors, he's hit pretty well there before. So you're probably looking at a 2-3 win upgrade provided he's healthy (Avi's not a great example of health either). You're also getting him for his age 29, 30, and 31 seasons, so it's not like he's going to be ancient. Looking at the August schedule, we have a chance. If everything goes right and we continue to hit, we can probably get to 10 over .500 by the start of September. That said, the schedule is not easy by any means. The only poor teams we play are the Mariners and Red Sox (10 of our 28 games). The rest are against possible playoff teams. We've beaten up on two very bad teams the past 6 games, so we really do need to be cautious in terms of buying. Just because we can score on Boston's awful starting pitching and had a couple of decent games in Cleveland doesn't mean we can do this against good teams.
