QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 05:51 AM) I'm certainly ok with him not taking a lot of 3s but in no way should he abandon the shot. Do they though? Don't get me wrong they're the best team in the NBA but they've played against some teams playing some bad basketball, I actually haven't been that impressed with Miami so far. Yeah, Charlotte sucks. If Wade has a bad night, the Heat aren't going to win by much, even against the bad teams. Wade's been somewhat off the past two games and they've barely won against Charlotte and Minnesota.

Rose tonight: 42 minutes 8-14 for 57% fg% 3-4 on 3 pointers 10-11 from the line 8 rebounds 16 assists 1 steal 29 points PER 37.81 TS% 79.69% Game Score 32.6 (absolutely insane) Offensive Rating 149.48 DRose has had two absolutely insane games so far. He had a 88% TS against the Lakers and now he pulls off an 80% TS game. The fact he had 16 dimes along with almost 30 points is incredible.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 12:36 AM) Didn't catch the last 3 1/2 quarters or so. Going by the boxscore, it looks like the Bulls were pretty impressive. 3-1 so far in games all on the road in less than a week is certainly nothing to be upset about. Oh, and Rose needs to follow LeBron's lead and just abandoned the three. LeBron looks more unstoppable than he ever has now that he's not letting defenses off the hook with 3's and long jumpers (he's taken one 3 in 4 games so far). Rose could be similarly unstoppable if he does the same consistently. In a shortened season, I'm not sure I want to see Derrick exhaust himself by driving on almost every isolation. I'd love to see that during the playoffs, but after seeing what happened to Derrick last season, I'd rather have him ease off the accelerator a bit this season. Oh and Rip Hamilton needs to learn how to shoot again. He's missing almost all of his long-range shots. His TS% so far looks abysmal (I think it's like .450). I'm sure he'll break out of this slump, but he's not doing anything well right now except leaking out on fast breaks. Also, Ronnie Brewer is 3/3 from 3 this year. It looks like he really worked on that during the off-season. Good for him, if Rip keeps sucking, he can have more of Rip's minutes.

Sox top stories of 2011
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 10:42 PM) Man. I'll just have to say I violently disagree. Mark has been awesome. Just off ERA alone, Danks has a 3.77 ERA since 2008. Mark's ERA since 2008 is 3.88. Danks has also had more fWAR than Buehrle over that time period, even though Buehrle has thrown more innings during that timespan. Add in the 6 year age difference and it's a no brainer that I'd rather give the $14 million to Danks. I know you like to relish 2005 and Mark has been the face of this franchise for the past decade. But moving forward, Danks is the much better option to give a big contract to. The Marlins are going to be overpaying Buehrle by quite a bit in 2-3 years.

QUOTE (Felix @ Dec 31, 2011 -> 12:11 AM) That Clippers team has some good starters (and I know they were missing Billups tonight), but holy jesus are they thin. That's going to get exploited big time during this condensed schedule. Randy Foye, Brian Cook and Ryan Gomes are three of their first four off the bench? Ugh. Well, if Billups was healthy, Williams comes off the bench.

Bulls defense is still terrible. It's a good thing they didn't go to Griffin the entire time that quarter. He was owning Boozer and Noah.

Derrick Rose is schooling everyone right now. CP3 and the MVP are going at it a little bit. I like this.

Sox top stories of 2011
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 10:05 PM) It's all relative. Look at what the Sox are paying Danks. Some might say he is not worth that amount of loot as well. Danks is 26 and he's been a better pitcher than Mark over the past 4 seasons. There's a huge difference.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 09:58 PM) Not hating on Rip, but really wish we got Butler. Hamilton can't hit mid-range jumpers at all. A lot of his points are coming off fast break layups. The Bulls need to stop settling for long shots. They're not making them and they're a perfect opportunity for the Clippers to run in transition.

2011 Video Game Catch-All Thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 29, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) The game rewards you for trying to actually run an offense. If you try and ad lib and just run around, it's harder for AI to keep up and players just start clogging up everything. This is what the AI does to you on offense now. I used to be able to dominate the AI on defense in previous games, now I fall for their pump fakes way too much and I always end up with terrible matchups due to good AI ball movement.

Sox top stories of 2011
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) 2011 was an utter disaster for the Sox. The record was way better than the way most fans felt about that team. Outside of opening day there were precious few highlights. Predictably, it ended badly with Ozzie. Predictably, it ended very sadly with Mark. It's inexcusable to let him leave the team. Here's hoping Dunn wakes up and earns the money this year. You'd think about now he'd start busting his ass. He's had enough time off. Starting Jan. 1, start working out, Mr. Big Contract. Thank you. You'd pay him $14 million a year to stay? For 4 years no less? Mark's probably my favorite baseball player and there's no way in hell I'd want him back at those rates.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 07:22 PM) I think the big selling point is the 2 hour one-on-one workshop with Tango himself via internet/phone. And yeah; he's definitely going for the hardcore sabermetricians, he basically says so with his snarky pitch. This is clearly for people who are looking to enter the field as a career choice. Apparently, registration is half-full according to Tango. So there are definitely people interested in dishing out the money.

QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) He cannot hang on to the darn ball... I think there's 3 possible explanations to that. 1) He's even more clumsy than he looks. 2) He's high during all 3 of the games thus far. 3) His hand injury from last season is still affecting him.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 07:11 PM) Amen to that. Speaking of quantitative analysis: did you see that Tom Tango is starting up online classes? A grand for early bird's and $1495 after that, I can't imagine find too many takers at that price (perhaps I'm just naive or cheap) but it's intriguing none the less. That's kind of ridiculous... I imagine he's catering to the hardcore sabermetricians who want to do actual statistical research and not just evaluate players for the hell of it. I would love to have a sabermetrics related stats class at the college level though. That'd be a class worth taking (I'm paying the tuition for 18 credit hours anyways). EDIT: After looking at http://tangotiger.net/teaching.html, it looks like there will be a decent amount of CS in it (data mining is a 400 level CS topic at UIUC). Looks like this is the kind of class that can prep you for a job on same ML club. A lot of the clubs want you to be able to gather all their data for them.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 06:46 PM) Andruw Jones is not a CF in any sense of the word. Let's not pretend like his fat ass can still play the position, please. He's a very good bench play -- perfect fit for an NL contender looking for pop off the bench -- but he's barely an outfielder at this point in his career. DH, PH and the occasional start in the OF is fine but anything beyond that is a stretch. I remember when Ozzie started Jones in center instead of Rios one game (Rios started in right) because they had a vote inside the clubhouse as to who the best OF on the team is. Jones won (probably because he had gold gloves) and Ozzie stupidly went with it. Thank god he's no longer the manager.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Dec 30, 2011 -> 04:14 PM) That's a BS explanation. It's travelling and the NBA is just trying to cover their f*** up. You can only pivot after you perform a jump-stop after receiving a pass. The same thing happened with LeBron last season (many times I may add). I like how the NBA is going against its own rule book...

The Future Of the Rotation
The rotation as is, includes two good pitchers, one injury-prone one, and two totally questionable commodities in Humber and Sale. Even if Sale and Molina turn out to be what they were projected to be (1/2 starters), we're looking at a very good rotation, but nowhere near "powerhouse". This team has had a good pitching staff for the last 3 years and we have just one division title to show for it.
