  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:32 AM) MDGonzales Mark Gonzales Light swings for Quentin, still unsure of returning Monday I would love to have a good Q back in the lineup instead of Rios...but we all know Rios will be playing over De Aza.
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:06 PM) Exactly. Chances are Ozzie will be a far better manager than whomever replaces him. I think it's too late however, for Oz or KW to save their jobs. They both will go or it will look like Jerry is favoring one over the other. If Cito Gaston is his replacement, then I would agree. There's only a few managers in baseball that are worse than Ozzie at game tactics.
  3. f*** De Aza, he only drove in half of our runs last night...
  4. Stewart's mechanics looks really inconsistent. He was also incredibly wild last night.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:28 PM) Whatever. I mean, the guy likes Joe Cowley. Who cares. Am I Carlos Gonzalez because I depict him as the modern day Babe Ruth? Unless you have something other than speculation, leave the guy alone. He's not bothering anybody. There's a difference between admiring a great player and an extremely controversial beat writer.
  6. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:24 PM) I doubt theres much difference but got Madden 12 today. There is a fatal flaw when playing the game on Pro. You can bomb passes to Johnny Knox all day, the corners are too slow or they bite on absolutely nothing. I did have fun playing it against my friend today though. I'm gonna have to find some good sliders, because I know All-Pro will end up kicking my ass since my level of play is right in between pro and all-pro.
  7. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 11:03 PM) There's no way in hell Joe Cowley registered for this board in 2004. Not possible. I don't know about WSI. That board sucks ass. It just pisses me off that the mods are trying to preach no hyperbole and treat everybody with respect and whatever. Yet whenever Marty posts something, it's automatically dismissed and he's mocked because he's apparently masquerading as Joe Cowley. GMAB. Cowley was a beat writer in 04 for the Sox.
  8. QUOTE (gatnom @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 06:43 PM) Does Cinda Hereen still teach this class? Yes she does. She seems a bit crazy, but enthusiastic as well.
  9. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:57 PM) Service time? With this organization? Are you serious? No franchise in baseball ignores the future for the immediate present like this one. This is so true.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:53 PM) Was that necessary? Why does everybody pick on Marty? Because he MIGHT be Cowley? So Joe Cowley signed up in 2004? I don't believe that for s***. Until somebody can provide indisputable proof that it's Joe I think y'all need to back off. He doesn't attack or degrade anybody. He offers up his opinions (who gives a s*** if they're not popular) and that's it. If he is allowed to call KW Holly.wood repeatedly, I should be able to keep referring to him as Cowley. And I think Cowley was on either WSI or this site at one point or another. So it's not out of question. Plus, he's the ONLY guy on this board that treats Cowley like some sort of genius writer.
  11. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) What people haven't realized is Detroit has had trouble playing .500 in the division. Detroit is 33-20 within the division...
  12. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 28, 2011 -> 08:42 PM) This is the Tigers. I bet Twins fans were saying the same thing in 2009. I was looking up that year's standings the other day. The Twins were 7 games down on September 7th. The Sox can still do it, the Tigers are notorious for sucking in September.
  13. Cowley probably paid some dude in a green hat and gray shirt to stand by that Churro place for an inning.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:32 PM) They're not suffering, though. They've been done. I'll take the wins, of course. I'm just saying we haven't magically 'solved' the Twins. They'll be back next year. When was the last time they've been bad two years in a row? The 90's? 23 games under is suffering if you ask me. Here's a question...when was the last time the Sox beat the Twins in 5 straight games? They turned a corner last month when they swept the Twins in Minnesota. It was probably some kind of leap over a mental barrier - one partially created by Ozzie by constantly giving the Twins praise. Hopefully, this is the case, because I honestly don't think the Twins were more talented than the Sox over the past decade with the exception to last season.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 30, 2011 -> 10:16 PM) Not this version. This team is terrible. It'd be a lot sweeter to beat them when they're actually good. I honestly don't care. I'm at the point now where I just want to see the Twins lose and suffer, especially at our hands.
  16. It feels so empowering to beat the Twins.
  17. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:57 PM) He looks slow and uncomfortable out there to me a lot of the time. I'm not saying I want Molina/Wieters. But I think unless he's going to be a beast offensively (I'm talking top 5 or so among AL catchers offensively), his defense is not good enough to catch everyday. You're the one poster that liked De Aza from the beginning. And I mean before the season even started. So you get points for that. I just don't look at him and see a guy I'd be willing to intrust 550-600 ABs to. I agree. De Aza, Flowers and Dayan should get the majority of the run from here on out. Rios/Dunn made their beds. They both suck. And it's much more important to evaluate Flowers these last 30 games or so than a well past his prime, $6 million dollar catcher who offers nothing outside of a single. We lived with A.J.'s bad arm for the past 6 years while he was a barely above average offensive catcher. I think I can live with Flowers having a .340-.350 wOBA while being a bad defensive catcher.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:09 PM) Fall 2011 This is my last semester of college and it's a joke. Classes only Tue/Thu. Baseball Coaching Theory Team Sports Golf II Broadcast News II Capstone Yeah. Wow, that sounds like a lot of fun. Meanwhile, I have... Fields and Waves (Physics class disguised as an electrical engineering class) C++ Data Structures Engineering Ethics Digital Systems Lab Statistics and Probability I have homework or work due every day except Monday, unless I have a Machine Problem for my Data Structures class.
  19. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) Brandon McCarthy was f***ing dealing tonight. Maybe he'll pan out after all. McCarthy's been a star in my Sabermetric fantasy league this year. I think he's in the top 20 in terms of points per start. His peripherals are excellent, he just gets no run support from the A's.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 11:10 PM) I'm still not sold on De Aza over the duration of a full season. Flowers, to me, is still below average defensively and that K-rate is still way too high for him to sustain any kinda offensive consistency. But he has legitimate power and he can talk a walk. Dayan is just real. Not sure how well his glove will play. But offensively, he's a juggernaut. See what a little youth infusion can do? Everybody is so scared of young prospects. "Most prospects fail." Well no s***! There's like 4 billion minor leaguers at a time in any given year and, of course, a majority of them will fail. The truly elite organizations can identify and hit on the ones who don't fail. Flowers should be fine. You can always off-set a high K rate with a high walk rate to prevent terrible slumps. And there is a reason why De Aza was let go by the Marlins. He's not that talented. His skillset is probably that of a borderline starting CF/4th outfielder. However, what is encouraging about De Aza this season is the power he's shown, it's a dramatic improvement over what he's done in previous years at any level. Either way, he should stick on the roster the next couple of years as he'd be a useful 4th outfielder at the least.
  21. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 09:22 PM) That's it! PLANET RIOS! Pitbull has Planet Pit. Alex Rios has Planet Rios. There you have it.
  22. Please stop batting Rios in the 4 spot. It's embarrassing. Go with 1. LF Pierre 2. SS Ramirez 3. 1B Konerko 4. DH Viciedo 5. CF De Aza 6. C Flowers 7. RF Lillibridge 8. 2B Beckham 9. 3B Morel
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 05:27 PM) It would be awesome if "Kenny "The Genius" Williams" read this site and went to the churros stand. You mean Holly.wood? WTF dude since when did this forum turn Holly.wood into Kenny "The Genius" Williams? lol
  24. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) I know I'm not the most popular poster on this site so I'd like to make a peace offering tonight. I'll be by the Churros stand tonight (section 154-55?) for the bottom of the 2nd and the first person that says "hey, Marty", I'll buy them a beer. I'll be in a gray shirt, green Sox hat. You hear that? Joe Cowley's gonna buy you free churros! I didn't know he had a heart!
  25. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Aug 29, 2011 -> 03:45 PM) I always thought batting average didn't take into account walks, or is this some new overthought statistical crock of s*** that I've been lucky enough to ignore. You're right, it doesn't, only somebody who doesn't think at all would even think of incorporating walks into BA. But I was more or less alluding to the fact that he was playing better when the majority of the fanbase wanted him up in the Majors and that the extra month he stayed down in the minors did nothing for him. His OPS before the break was .909. His OPS after was .693.
