  1. Let's go Alejandro. I'd like at least two more here.
  2. Attaboy Dayan!
  3. Hey look, a substitute teacher is walking off the field!
  4. HIS NAME IS RIOS! BACK TO BACK. Oh man, Rios almost hit two homers today.
  5. HIS NAME IS KONG.
  6. It amazes me how piece of s*** hitters like Casilla have success against us. I mean, come on, it's called a scouting report. The majority of the league is following it to a tee.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 24, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) Yes, Ozzie is responsible for acquiring all the s***ty players. Ozzie is the devil. Ozzie is responsible for everything that's bad with our pathetic organization. Sorry I can't blame the demise of the Roman empire on Ozzie. He played Dunn. He could have benched him. He played Rios. He could have benched him. WHO ACQUIRED THOSE TWO PLAYERS??? Did he also aquire stiffs like Lilly and Escobar and some of the revolving relief hacks we employ? No but he pitched Jenks. He WANTED to lose. Sure he did. The man was and IS a very very good manager. He threw games? Please. Who didn't want Jim Thome? Oh yeah, Ozzie Guillen. What was the effect of this? Oh yeah, signing Adam Dunn. It's a domino effect.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 24, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) Force Pacers to right side of basket = success? They make up that entire right side, haha.
  9. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2012 -> 02:27 PM) You don't have to have one but most of the really effective one do. From recent examples. Cutter: Rivera, Slider: Roberto Hernandez, Marmol, Changeup: Hoffman and Foulke, Curveball: Jenks. Again, I'm not sure it was right decision. I thought Reed looked better, but I can see why they might want to try it. Reed has an incredibly good slider comparable to the pitches a lot of those guys have. It's not like Reed is Jason Motte or Matt Thornton pumping nothing but fastballs.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2012 -> 01:04 PM) I would disagree with that. I'm not saying he can't be. I think many people on this board wanted and still want Santiago to be a starter. However, the last time I checked this is not a message board for scouts and/or management in the majors. I agree that Reed looks to be a good closer candidate however, his doesn't have that "special" pitch which separate him from others. Santiago has a different pitch that could make him special. However, he decided to not throw strikes and that will obviously hurt him. I think it was a good gamble that hasn't worked out. You don't need a special pitch to be a closer. Would it be nice to have one? Sure, but guys like Rivera are one in a million. Reed has more than enough stuff to be a successful closer.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 24, 2012 -> 09:43 AM) Anyone here every play in a rec-level, or at least not super-competitive level softball league, and run into "that guy" who takes everything so seriously that he's a cartoon? My knee has been hurting so I was catching last night. This guy comes up, puts his hand to the ump for time, while he digs around in the box for about 20 minutes. Then he finally puts his hand down, and starts swinging the bat back and forth. So the ump says its on, the pitcher delivers a pitch, and just as the pitch is being delivered, he backs out of the box. Pitch is good, ump calls a strike. This dude looks at the umpire and says "come on man, I can't have a chance to get ready here? Do I need to f***ing say 'time out" or something?" And he's completely serious, looking all offended. The ump and I look at him, the ump says, "maybe you should. Will you get back in there now please?" Dude gets back in the box, all pissy, and proceeds to ground out to short, cussing all the way to first. Looks like you got a Derek Jeter situation.
  12. DeVries is the cousin of Eric Sogard. Hahah.
  13. QUOTE (ptatc @ May 24, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) I really don't see that this was an easy management decision. Most really good closers have one outstanding off speed or "trick" pitch. Rivera with the cutter, Hoffman with the changeup etc. Reed does have an outstanding fastball and good offspeed stuff but Santiago has that screwball that really could make a difference. And it's not like Reed had or even has a track record of success in the majors. In a year where no one expected them to be in playoff contention, I can see where Santiago's skill set was very tempting. I can't say I agreed with it but I can see the logic behind it. Reed = best relief prospect in baseball. Me before spring training: who the hell is Hector Santiago? Besides, I think most of us can agree that Santiago is more fit to be a starter with his arsenal. Not a closer. In a season where you thought you wouldn't contend, why not give Reed the job from the start? It puzzled me that it took so long for Reed to get a chance.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 24, 2012 -> 10:11 AM) He was reincarnated and you still doubt him? I doubt his ability to hit .381.
  15. Paulie has a .420 BABIP. I think it's safe to say he won't hit .381 this year, but we should all prepare for the inevitable.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2012 -> 09:28 PM) I know injuries and surgeries really derailed both of their careers, but who is the bigger disappointment based on how they looked early in their careers, Francisco Liriano or Kerry Wood? Liriano. He was so dominant in 06 and was almost just as dominant in 2010. Wood had incredible stuff, but Liriano featured a slider in the low 90s and a fastball in the mid 90s when he first came up. He was also left handed. When both were healthy, Liriano was far better. Wood was a borderline all-star when he was pitching, Liriano was a potential Cy Young Award winner.
  17. Hey, we won a game against the Twins! Chris Sale is too good for you Minnesota.
  18. Something's not right with Thronton. His K/9 is way down, giving up way too many walks.
  19. QUOTE (SI1020 @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:16 PM) I like him too. Better than his partner. Too bad he left town. Dave Wills should have done radio here. He left like 2 years before Rooney went to St. Louis. It's a shame, because he's doing a great job down in Tampa.
  20. QUOTE (Jake @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:15 PM) Len and Bob are SO bad. Talk about saying nothing for a whole broadcast. The only time I ever notice them saying anything is when they say something way off base. I wonder if Len Kasper had ever been to a baseball game before he started broadcasting. I got nothing against Brenly for the most part, but Len Kasper sucks.
  21. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 23, 2012 -> 12:11 PM) Law Holmes post was a joke. Every now and then I make the mistake of turned on 670 on a random Saturday and he's doing a Depaul game, I believe. That wasn't serious. I want a professional. I actually like Vasgersian MORE because of The Show. Funny. Then you want Zack Zaidman.
  22. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 23, 2012 -> 10:53 AM) I'll probably hit up a cubs game or two as well. Why the hell not? Impure! You call yourself a Sox fan?
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2012 -> 11:54 AM) ADA cf Gordo 2b Dunn dh ***NEVER FORGET*** 1b Rios rf AJP c Tank lf Alexei ss O-Dog 3b Sale p Haha
  24. QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ May 23, 2012 -> 08:47 AM) Hire Matt Vasgersian. This I would be okay with.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 22, 2012 -> 05:08 PM) He's a homer as much as anyone on earth, so if you're holding that against Hawk, you've got to hold it against Thorne. Secondly, he tries to be incredibly overdramatic and it gets old in baseball...hockey, that works, baseball....no. Thirdly, in the past, it has been painful listening to him trying to make the Orioles sound respectful...maybe it's working better now that they actually have been winning a bit. I've always thought Palmer was by far the better member of that team... Eh I didn't find him all that bad in the MLB 2K games. I don't watch too many Orioles games, but I've always thought he had a decent reputation as a play by play guy.
