Official 2011-2012 NFL Thread
Don't you hate it when NFL players ask for trades when they have 3 years left on their contract? Thank god this s*** doesn't happen in baseball.

Speigel vs Cowley on WSCR
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 2, 2011 -> 11:51 AM) Let me put it this way, he has slid into Mariottis old role. Pretty much, except he's slightly more confrontational.

Cowley is an embarrassment to the journalism profession.

... it's about time
QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 11:01 PM) Hopefully 20 more years. The guy speaks the truth and people blast him. Some of you won't be happy until we get a grumpy ol manager like Ned Yost who won't say anything except "we take them one game at a time." Then you'll all be happy I guess. I applaud anything negative Ozzie has to say about these losers. You think talk means anything to these millionaires? They just go out and play every day. This Sox team doesn't deserve any long Ozzie speech about how we are still in the race, we can beat Detroit, blah blah. I love his colorful comments. They are way better than the cliches the rest of the managers spout daily. Detroit is not going to be any more fired up against us because of anything the Sox say. If the Sox hit home runs and pitch well they will win. If they do not hit home runs they will lose. And some of you really are gonna be mad cause look for Flowers to sit soon and look for DeAza to be sitting as well. I thought Ozzie was supposed to be a good clubhouse manager. Good clubhouse managers don't say things like "oh I hope we don't get swept". No s***, you don't want to get swept. That's such a defeatist attitude.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 09:01 PM) With the way things are going now, you don't think a few people would? I guarantee it. Lucas Harrell was never going to be good. I don't think anybody with an idea would ever complain.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:54 PM) Was that really below market at the time? I'm not sure what dollar values one WAR translated to back then, but I'm thinking Freddy was worth about $12 million in 05. So it is under market value, but not by much. Plus, he was probably worth less than what he was paid in 06.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:53 PM) You're not thinking things through. Garcia doesn't agree to a below-market extention the trade never happens. That doesn't mean the Sox don't win the World Series in 05 though. $10 million gets you a pretty good pitcher in 2005.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) As long as we're going over roster moves by Guillen. Shouldn't he get credit for the well-below market value contract extension (3y/$27M) Freddy Garcia signed in 2004? That more than makes up for his Thome decision. So Ozzie saving the team maybe $10 million over a span of 3 years makes up for making the decision that lost us the division last year? Those two don't equate.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 03:44 PM) Print and put em in your case? I would only do it if I can get fine quality paper (like the one the publisher uses) or else it would seem really cheap...

Exec's believe both Oz and Kenny could be gone
Not a huge fan of LaRussa, but he would be an upgrade over Ozzie.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Sep 1, 2011 -> 10:46 AM) For the record: Ozzie made a number of gutsy calls in the '05 postseason that other managers may not have made. Buehrle to close out game 3 at Houston bringing in El Duque in Boston leaving starters in for the duration instead of Manuel-ing the game by insisting on maintaining bullpen roles Who else was Ozzie going to throw in game 3? Ozzie ran out of relief pitchers, he had to pitch a starter and it was either Buehrle or Contreras. He chose Buehrle, which was the right move since Contreras would have to start game 5, but it's not like he had to make a really tough decision or anything. If anything, Ozzie was playing bullpen roles. It was the 6th inning and he probably wasn't going to bring in anyone that would pitch the later innings. But, he did pick the right guy out of 3 others, so that's worth some praise. And any manager would have loved to have gotten what Ozzie did out of his starters. There's no use in taking them out or "Manuel-ing" them when they all give up 3 runs or less and have very low pitch counts going into the later innings. Give the pitchers credit, Ozzie just sat there while they pitched their asses off.

8/31 GT - SOX vs. Twins - 1:10pm CDT - WGN
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:44 PM) I don't think he's bad. Overvalued even at career norms. He plays SS, he plays it well, and he's an above average offensive SS. What else do you want? Do you want Trevor Plouffe instead? At the rate he's getting paid and the production he gives, he's a bargain.

Alexei's probably the second most valuable position player on the team. I don't know how you can think he sucks.

Rios for Rowand?
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 10:17 PM) It's not even feasible. The Giants have decided to eat the $12 mil left on Rowand's contract just to get him off the roster. Rios is still owed nearly $40 milion for the next 3 years. Either way, I don't know if Rowand would be an improvement. Unless Sabean thinks Rios can turn it around...hmmm
-
Rios for Rowand?
Even Sabean's not that stupid... Rowand's an expiring, Rios has 3 years left on his deal.

... it's about time
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:02 PM) Before this season, Kenny still had a lot of Sox fans on his side, at this point, a LOT more than 10 percent want him gone. I would like this organization to just clean house. But if I had a choice of who to get rid of, it's easily Ozzie. It's true that KW has made some really bad moves lately, but he's still a competent GM to a degree. Ozzie on the other hand...no.

That's White Sox loser
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:53 PM) I was thinking that we might have seen the last home game with Guillen as manager. The seem to want to get compensation from the Marlins though. At this point, I'd just let him go. I dream of LoMo on the Sox... Imagine if the Guillens go down to Florida and LoMo is still on the team...Oney vs. LoMo on Twitter will be interesting to see.

8/31 GT - SOX vs. Twins - 1:10pm CDT - WGN
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) He got hit hard in that first inning today. I don't know if he's unlucky, but his stuff isn't near what it was. He can't get away with any mistakes. I never said he was good today and I'm not saying that he shouldn't be blamed at all. But saying Peavy's nothing but a deadweight is speaking far too early. Remember when Zack Greinke had a 5.5 ERA earlier this year with absolutely gaudy K:BB ratios? I'm not saying Peavy's anywhere near the same pitcher, but pitchers tend to come back to what their peripherals show and Peavy's peripherals have been pretty good.

8/31 GT - SOX vs. Twins - 1:10pm CDT - WGN
QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) the offense scored 6 runs, you should win every one of those games peavy is just a flat out terrible pitcher, the team is hindered by having to pitch him and pay him Peavy's had 2-3 of these really bad starts. He hasn't been that bad in the other ones. He's been incredibly unlucky. If you haven't noticed, he's not giving up home runs or extremely hard hit line drives in most of his games, but ends up giving up 3-4 runs regardless. He has a 62% strand rate, which is about 10% below league average. The rule of thumb is that over a large amount of innings (say about 1000), luck gets isolated and the strand rate for all pitchers should be about 72-75%. On top of that, Peavy has an FIP almost 2 runs lower than his ERA. An xFIP 1.5 runs lower, a tERA a whole run lower, and a SIERA 1.5 runs lower. That's 4 separate advanced pitching metrics saying he's been unlucky and by quite a large amount as well. On top of that, from what I've seen, I don't think he really deserves to have an ERA over 5. He's probably been the unluckiest pitcher on the staff this year just by the amount of seeing eye singles he's given up. I know it sounds like I'm making excuses for him, but I truly believe that he isn't as bad as his ERA looks.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:21 PM) I said that before It's also the most important spot in the batting order since the 4th hitter comes up with the most men on base. But you guys probably already knew that.

8/31 GT - SOX vs. Twins - 1:10pm CDT - WGN
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:12 PM) You are wrong. The problem with this game was Jake Peavy. Peavy had to pitch because he's owed a lot of money. And who else are you going to pitch instead of Peavy...? There's no doubt Peavy had a bad start, but the fact that the offense was hindered by Ozzie Guillen before the game even started speaks louder volumes.

QUOTE (sunofgold @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:08 PM) Vizquel did get a walk, thus cannot say that was a bad decision. Beckham isn't really lighting things up. The pinch running thing didn't really matter. But that wasn't the worst decision. Paulie is slow and coming off an injury ..thus he is super slow. Need somebody who could score from first on a double (2 outs so runner going with pitch). And you don't want to use one of your better pitchers like Buehrle or Danks to pinch run. However, with Rios at the plate and striking out...well I could have been the pinch runner is that situation. loL! Rios really should be batting 7th. Even TCM would be a better choice in the clean up position but I like the Tank there ..giving also Konerko some protection. I thought that they were going to pitch around PK in the ninth. That is what I would have done. He was the tying run at that point. The pinch running and the Vizquel pinch hit are directly related. There was really no reason to pinch hit for Beckham in that situation. In fact, Beckham's hitting .333 off Nathan in 6 PAs with a home run.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:07 PM) I normally don't like to add to the anger party in a game thread, but... Adam Dunn pinch hitting for Lillibridge? SERIOUSLY???? When Lilli already hit a HR? And did I read the box score right - Zach Stewart ran for PK? WTF was that about? Why the f*** is Rios hitting cleanup??? These are ALL Ozzie. And how perfect for 2011 - the Sox very nearly com back again, and the two guys who fail - Rios and Dunn, both on K's. Sounds about right. Stewart ran for Konerko because Ozzie ran out of bench players. He tried to over-manage this game in the 9th by doing lefty righty matchups and it failed big time. For crying out loud, we need a damn manager who would actually looks at splits.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 04:04 PM) I think Guillen should be fired. I think it's laughable to blame any manager for losing a game when your starter gives up 6 runs in the first. If you want to go the root of the problem with this game (or any recent game), it's the fact that Rios is hitting 4th and playing CF instead of De Aza.
