  1. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 07:49 PM) The Tigers' main weakness to me is their defense. Aside from Inge and Jackson, who stands out as being a plus defender? This is true. But then again, the Sox only have three standouts on defense in Rios, Alexei, and Pierre.
  2. If you get 08 Carlos or an effective Peavy, you really don't need Beckham to do that much. Having him do well helps, but I think the key is probably Carlos.

I'd never though the possibility of a snow day in college would be...realistic. Apparently, there could be up to 2 feet of snow here in Urbana.
  4. Nice poster by Brewer. Even better reaction by Stacey King.
  5. http://www.joystiq.com/2011/01/29/playstat...-ngp/#continued Look at the NGP unveiling video #2, where the guy plays Uncharted. The game uses everything in NGP's arsenal. You can use the touch screen to tell Drake where to go, use the back pad to climb things, take aim with the six-axis controls, and there's the normal game interface buttons and analog sticks. The problem I have with touch screen gaming is how tough it is to play some of the games due to the fact that there are no buttons. The NGP gives you choices and everything looks so fluid. This thing is gonna change the portable gaming.
  6. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 01:54 PM) LOL. Sure man, I MUST? Haha why must I? What a joke of a statement. Anyways, weird assumptions aside, I think WAR is useless comparing players with different skill sets. Actually, I think it's useless in general, but I guess it's a decent summary if for some reason ranking players excites you. We all know Juan was great on the catching part of defense last year. We also all know that he will be with a different team next year for the 6th time in his career; probably for the same 2-3 years that teams generally tolerate him for until they desire a corner OF with even a smidge of extra base power. I don't hate Juan Pierre as I don't hate any player, but he is what he is. Anybody can see that. That's why teams let him go. That's why he got benched for two years of his prime. Who cares about his range Wow, seriously, you're clueless about defense. You tell me that my statement was a joke when you go on and ramble on about how range doesn't mean anything for an outfielder? Plus, Pierre got benched for one season and that was his age 31 season, the year that is usually the last year of a player's prime. When Juan was in his prime, he was a good player for Florida. I'd say he's still somewhere around an average player right now near his mid-30s. Believe whatever you want about WAR, but you don't have to go and try to insult others for using it. Maybe you should, you know, look into it before you start making fun of it. It'll make you less ignorant.
  7. How did Howard do while Omer was in?
  8. QUOTE (sircaffey @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 10:05 AM) Squeezing out the #2 seed would be huge. Especially since the drop-off after the Knicks is pretty big.
  9. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 11:43 AM) Wasn't D.Young's July better than Pierre's entire career? I don't remember any Juan Pierre highlights except that one catch running to the line, but I remember D. Young carrying the Twins for a month or two. In this case, I say WAR/SHMORE. Delmon Young had one good month. Some Pierre defensive highlights: http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12056381 http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=12130089 http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=11387065 http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=11220661 http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10639239 http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=10217991 All those videos are from a two month span. It seems like you must not appreciate great range, but rather poor range and then some diving catch to make it look good. Say whatever you want about Pierre's offensive game, but his defensive game certainly isn't lacking.
  10. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 03:07 AM) Defensive metrics had Pierre much better than Young which I strongly disagree with. Young is terrible in the OF. Ask any unbiased Twins fan.
  11. QUOTE (GREEDY @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 02:16 AM) I think Delmon needs at least one more >, but otherwise it is a fair breakdown. Pierre actually had a higher WAR last season than Young, believe it or not.
  12. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:52 PM) If Morneau is healthy all season, the Twins have the definite edge. He's the make-or-break as far as I'm concerned. I just hope he's enjoying the sponge baths. Similar things could be said for Peavy and the White Sox. And I KNOW he's enjoying the sponge baths. I wouldn't say so. Even with a healthy Morneau, these two teams are pretty close to each other. I'm not basing this off bias or anything...take a look at these. White Sox - 42.7 total WAR, roughly 91 wins. Twins - 43.1 total WAR, roughly 91 wins. And that's with Morneau producing 4 wins and playing in nearly 130 games. These projections were a combination of CAIRO, Bill James projections, and FanGraphs Fan Projections. I did not take ZiPS into account, although if I did, the Sox might be looking better since the ZiPS projections look more optimistic for the Sox.
  13. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 05:06 PM) Dunn helps that a lot, but this means that the Sox are still lacking. Especially when Pierre and Pierzynski are your two other left-handed regulars.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 06:13 PM) But you have to purchase the game twice, that's my point. They're not gonna be the same thing, obviously.
  15. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 05:47 PM) Im confused, why does he have Escobar getting over 600 ABs, or am I not reading this projection in the right context. He also has Jon Adkins pitching for us, did we really sign him? He also has McPherson getting a lot of ABs. I just tend to ignore those.

  17. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 02:25 PM) I don't see the point of buying a PSP until they allow you to purchase the PS3 version of a game, and it comes with the UMD or whatever the PSP disc is called. I don't see the point of buying a game twice, or ever buying a game for the PSP that is also on the PS3. Or even if they charged an extra $10 to get the PSP version as well, I'd be more likely to actually get one. The point is that you don't have to haul your entire PS3 with you to play PS3 quality games.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) Perhaps they will get a super bowl mention. "yo, I told the hardware engineers at Intel to put some transistors on dat b****. Make sure to buy their new i9 line coming out this June. The box will have my face on it!"
  19. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:53 PM) Just to be a complete ass, that wasn't even close to correct. Duchscherer. If I had a choice, I'd actually go with Duchscherer. That's if both he and Freddy are healthy.
  20. For whatever reason, the way Cutler walked didn't seem right. Might have been the camera or just me. I also didn't realize Jay dated a MTV reality show star, lol.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:42 PM) They're giving him creative input into new designs and concepts. It's not just an endorsement deal. Intel makes CPUs, SSDs, and integrated video cards, what can will.i.am possibly come up with to improve those things?
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 01:06 PM) Will.i.am named Intel's director of creative innovation Just a waste of money. No computer geek is gonna buy an Intel chip because of will.i.am. Wrong demographics.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 3, 2011 -> 08:28 PM) Kevin Smith is over. I was surprised how much I liked Easy A. That movie made me realize how awesome Emma Stone is.
