  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:58 AM) Ick. Hate giving away games like that. Yup, definitely sucks. But at least we know something will go down. The good news is that Fister is going against the Twins today and Felix is going tomorrow.
  2. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:56 AM) Harrell starting tonight. Looks like huddy is gone no matter Where did you get this from?
  3. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:55 AM) Myers is a real prick, however, I will admit, he has good stuff. I still dont' like the idea of having a jag on our team. But if it meant we are able to move Huddy for a big bat and than get Myers for the right price, I might be able to live with it. But geeze, Myers is such a piece of s*** and we have such a likeable ball club. If Myers is good, nobody will say anything.
  4. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:52 AM) BNightengale #mlb #white sox Sox GM Kenny Williams, the king of the trade deadline, is quietly exploring possibility of acquring Brett Myers from Astros 1 minute ago via web Man, it would really suck having such a piece of s*** on the ballclub. Can we please avoid players that I'm forced to actively root against? But Brett Myers has a 3.10 ERA and a 3.52 FIP... I guess you have to take the good with the bad sometimes.
  5. QUOTE (wsgdf_2 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) jay_jaffe: "Like Haren, Edwin Jackson's been hurt by AZ defense/bad luck. .321 BABIP. 4.24 SIERA. " So not only is he in a hitter's park, but it's safe to say AZ's defense is much worse than Sox. Arziona's bad at everything. Their infield defense really does suck. Reynolds is a butcher. Kelly Johnson is below average. LaRoche is below average. The only good fielder is Stephen Drew and he's not even that good.
  6. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:37 AM) Markakis and Guthrie? is that a world shocker? I really do like Nick Markakis.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:35 AM) What have been the velocity readings on Jackson since the no-hitter? Has he sustained a loss since going almost 150 pitches in that outing? http://pitchfx.texasleaguers.com/pitcher/4...mp;to=7/29/2010 Virtually no difference. Fastball still averaging 94.1 MPH.
  8. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:28 AM) LMAO! @SI_JonHeyman - still seems to be optimism for #chisox, #dbacks deal. 3-way possibilities alive. chicago does like dunn, nats love jackson @pgammo (Peter Gammons) - Nats not that hot for Edwin jackson When given the choice of Heyman and Gammons, who would you choose? I'm still mad at Heyman for his VORPies article, which firejoemorgan.com totally ripped in half. That was nice to see.
  9. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) Livan Hernandez and Dunn, I don't know how Livan does in the AL at this point, but he fits KW and Ozzie's mold of a player they would want IMO, that way in their mind they get a starer and a power bat Big no to Livan, HUGE NO.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) I think the sentiment that Kenny is trying to step in front of Washington to force their hand on Dunn makes the most sense, thought I do seem to remember the Sox putting in some groundwork to get Jackson when he was still with TB, right? I was thinking about this a couple of days ago and posted it in the Dunn thread (I think). But I think Kenny's looking at it his way: if he deals for Jackson, it's not the end of the world. You do bolster your pitching staff. However, his plan A is to get Dunn through Jackson.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) Cowley - Here's what I've just been told - "If [KW] pulls this off, the Sox will be considerably better by tonight.'' Like.
  12. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:15 AM) honestly, depending on the move, so what? If it is a major move that makes them even more serious contenders and maybe a player who is locked up for a few years one game is one game... never want to give games away I agree but sometimes have to for the better, the Sox have games left with the Twins, if they can be stacked for those games I'll roll loaded dice tonight If it's for Dunn, Prince, or Berkman, I'll take that risk. But if it's really for Edwin freaking Jackson, I'm going to be pissed.
  13. In case the Jackson deal does go down and he gets flipped to Washington, I just wanted to say that I called it a couple of days ago. Although I said Santos would be traded, not Hudson.
  14. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:10 AM) Yes they did. And the Sox are hitting very well as a team right now as well...and have won 11 games in a row at home. Just because the great Daniel Hudson most likely won't pitch tonight doesn't mean the Sox are "giving" the game away. You're forgetting that the Sox faced two really crappy Seattle pitchers, Rowland-Smith might be the worst pitcher in baseball. Brett Anderson's going tonight and I'd say he's one of the best young pitchers in the game, injury or not. By throwing a AAA pitcher or Tony Pena out there, you really decrease your chances of winning the game. It's not like you need to trade Hudson right now. You can wait until tomorrow. And more likely than not, the price will actually decrease, as Rizzo's isn't in the most desirable position with Dunn.
  15. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:08 AM) Harrell's already on the 40 man is scheduled to go tonight for Charlotte, he makes the most sense as of right now even if he does suck. God, he's got a 73 Ks and 53 walks? That real bad.
  16. QUOTE (hawksox13 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:07 AM) They aren't playing the Yankees and they won't be just throwing the game away. They could easily let Pena throw four innings and then make the rest of the bullpen work through the game. Pena for four, Linebrink for one, Threets for one, and then Santos/Thorton/Jenks/Putz fill in. It's not the end of the world. Odds are Hudson would've gone five innings and gave up four runs anyway. The A's hit our bad pitchers pretty well in Oakland.
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 10:05 AM) God damnit Jake Peavy. And Kenny, our collective hearts can't handle this every year...and I'm going to tonights game. Have fun watching Tony Pena pitch for 3-4 innings after an implosion by Carlos Torres or Lucas Harrell. This A's team is what every young pitcher in his first start should not face. They're too patient.
  18. We're basically giving the game away tonight if we don't throw Hudson. Ugh...
  19. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) Of the 220 players with at least 250 PA this season our DH ranks 202nd in OPS. Oh and he's 273rd in AVG with RISP (min 50 PA), yes that's the worst in baseball. Kotsay is reaching epic levels of bad. Don't tell Ozzie these things. Real baseball people don't watch a computer. Babe Ruth didn't watch a computer, Pete Rose didn't watch a computer.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:53 AM) $8.35 million for that back end of the rotation guy next year though, especially when you probably only have $15 million to spend total and have another 7 spots to fill, is a terrifically bad idea. I understand that. But that 4.3 FIP is worth 3.5 WAR. 3.5 WAR @ $3.5 million/WAR is worth somewhere around $12 million. Not saying he should get that money, but it's not a huge overpay.
  21. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) He's proven what? That he's an extremely mediocre A.L. pitcher? Yeah, I'll pass on that. ERA bites people in the ass once again. A 4.3 FIP starter for the past two years at the back end of your rotation is more than acceptable. That said, Hudson was probably due for a 4.5 FIP this year...
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) You'd think 4 straight months of being atrocious at the plate is a good enough sample size for Ozzie to seriously diminish his workload...but I guess not. I was surprised to find out that Kotsay's only DH'd 37 games. His degree of suck has made me think he's been there 97 games.
  23. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:31 AM) Looks like this thing is happening: BNightengale #mlob #whitesox #diamondbacks Club officials from the Sox and D-backs are confirming they are close to a deal, sending Edwin Jackson to Sox 4 minutes ago via web DAMN IT. NOOOOOOOOO. Why aren't we getting LaRoche too?
  24. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:23 AM) They're the same basic idea but both has things that the other doesn't. I see that now.
  25. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) They're really 2 different things. Are they? I know Brooks goes game by game, but I can sort by date on Texas Leaguers.
