Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread
QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) "There are 48 hours to go before the trade deadline and it remains to be seen if the Nationals will dig in and make an attempt to sign Adam Dunn. If they don't, they'd have two choices -- either keep him through the end of the year, which really wouldn't make any sense, or try to trade him. The White Sox have been aggressive, but are not well-armed to go after him. You wonder if the teams most motivated to get him will, in the end, be the Rays and the Yankees -- not only to land him for themselves, but to keep him out of the hands of their division rival. Imagine Dunn hitting 5th for the Rays, or second for the Yankees. The Nationals say they're not engaged with the NYY at the moment, but the NYY seem to be hovering --as are the Rays." Buster freaking Olney. Buster Olney thinks Adam Dunn will hit second for the Yankees? What is he smoking?

White Sox Trade Catch-All
QUOTE (bulokis @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:38 PM) Dan Bernstein said from his source, the Sox have a lot of scenarios and Adam Dunn is not the only big name linked with the White Sox. As they should. You can't put all your fruit in one basket.

There's a lot of Spanish speakers on this team, including the manager. I don't think Viciedo's had that big of an influence on him.

Phillies to get Oswalt for 3 players
QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 01:17 PM) I know it'll sound silly, but I've secretly wanted Roy Oswalt and Roy Halladay to be on the same team for a long time. Roy x2.

Negative LeBron James Story Pulled From ESPN Moments After Being Poste
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:23 PM) Here's my question in reply...are they as much controlled by the front offices, or is it a case where ESPN is the TMZ of the sports world and is controlled by the celebrities? Probably both. I don't think it's the front offices controlling them, it's more or less the leagues. And of course, the celebs and superstars are where the viewership is, so they would naturally go after those things.

Sox scouted Jays and Orioles last night
QUOTE (pktmotion @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) If the Rosenthal tweets were true about the Sox after a mid-rotation guy. Brett Cecil from the Blue Jays fits the bill 8-5 W-L 3.89 ERA 74 K 31 BB 1.17 WHIP would be a really decent under the radar pick-up. As for the Orioles, Luke Scott maybe Jeremy Guthrie. Except he would cost a lot.

Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
QUOTE (soxfan3530 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) Now that Oswalt is seemingly off the market, I would expect the Cardinals to make a pretty big push for Lilly the next few days, probably driving his price up to where none of us want anything to do with him. Hendry would much rather trade to the Sox than to the Cardinals.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 11:25 AM) They sort of remind me of the Angels right now. From buyers to potential sellers at the flip of a switch. They have too many holes to fill IMO. Might have been good for both teams.

2010 AL Central Catch-All
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 11:21 AM) Think they might even unload a player if they're 7 back after tomorrow? That would be funny as hell. "Hey, we just gave up a good prospect for a bad 3B, but now we suck, so you wanna unload now?"

Bobby Jenks
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) And no, I'm not talking about striking out the side, although I certainly wouldn't complain if you did that from here on out. But the agression in which you pitched with yesterday should be done everyday from here on out. You clearly still have the stuff and velocity, but instead of focusing on your best stuff, you work more as if you were a starting pitcher trying to utilize multiple pitches and being pretty. It don't have to be pretty, you are a power closer. Utilize that nasty hook and power fastball. You really don't need to out-think hitters, they can't touch you when you are throwing those two pitches with even mediocre command. Last night was vintage Jenks. It reminded me of 2005. He was upper 90's on velocity and than just snapped some lethal curves. He won't keep throwing in the upper 90s. The thing with Bobby is that when he gets little rest or isn't really pissed and pitching for his job, he's not going to throw 99. There's days where he throws 92-93 and that's when he gets hit hard. I think he realized that he needed more pitches due to this and his inability to be consistent with velocity may have something to do with his health and fitness (endurance does have a lot to do with your body weight...).

Tigers Acquire Jhonny Peralta
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) The Tigers need to punt on 2010 and see what they can get themselves for next year. Exactly, which is why this Peralta deal in which they have up a decent prospects is so stupid.

Ted Lilly traded to Dodgers
Sinker ballers have more of an advantage in smaller ballparks because they don't give up as many home runs. You take him to a park where home runs aren't aplenty and he loses that advantage.

Angels Open to Trades
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:25 AM) Piniero is out for the next 8 weeks too. Basically put, they really have almost no shot at the division right now so they are basically in a next year mode. I think if the Angels were willing to kick in 5M, Abreu wouldn't look that bad, even if we needed him next year. He tends to be a good OBP guy and while he's slowed down a lot, he still can do some nice things for our team (smart base-runner, draws walks, can handle the bat). The big thing I consider is that I think I'd rather have Abreu or Matsui and still have Hudson than a lot of our other options. I don't think Luke Scott would cost a Hudson either. But he might come more expensive than these two. The thing I like about Abreu is that even though he's a bad fielder (-10 UZR/150), he's nowhere near as bad as Quentin (-30 UZR/150). With Abreu's reputation as a good defender to people like Ozzie, you know he will stick him out there in right. And that alone will make the Abreu deal that much more interesting to me. You're talking about losing 4 runs from here on out on defense instead of losing 13 runs. That's a whole win share. I really want no part of Matsui.

Angels Open to Trades
Contract details 2 years/$19M (2010-11), plus 2012 option signed extension with LA Angels 11/5/09 10:$9M, 11:$9M, 12:$9M option ($1M buyout) option guaranteed with 550 PAs in 2011 or 1,100 PA in 2010- You'd be handcuffed to him for 2 years and $18 million possibly. At the least, you'll have him for $10 million next year. Not sure I'd be a fan of that.

Angels Open to Trades
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:21 AM) Bobbie Abreu stats for 2010 Los Angeles Angels 101 380 56 96 24 1 12 56 158 56 82 16 8 .347 .416 .253 I don't think his numbers are bad at all. DH and fill in the OF. I don't remember if he has played some 1B or not though.I would not be giving up major prospects for him though, but on the other hand wouldn't mind having him on the team to fill the LH bat need, if one exists It's a .338 wOBA, which is pretty mediocre, especially for him. He posted a .367 wOBA last year. They're not bad numbers, but they're not anything desirable, especially given his contract next year.

Angels Open to Trades
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) I actually didn't realize Abreu was under contract next season as well. And in no way shape or form would I be a fan of having Abreu for anymore than this year. But I do think him/Matsui would be pretty solid fits for our squad this year. I think they make us better, without making us worse long-term (since we don't have to give up a ton of prospects) and essentially can keep Huddy in our rotation (which I actually think is a good thing). Abreu would come cheap since he does have the contract obligation. I think he makes around $10 million next year. I wouldn't mind if we got Abreu, he does make this team better. Hell, anyone makes this team better because of Kotsay. And I didn't realize that the Angels are now in third place and at .500... Talk about a big swing since the Haren deal.
