  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:45 AM) To be fair, Rios got A LOT of glove on it. I would have given him an error, but it wasn't really his fault, if that makes sense. Yeah, I agree with that. He should have caught it, but it wasn't his ball to begin with. I would have charged him the error, he had the ball in his glove.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2010 -> 09:28 AM) I don't see anything in the Trib or MLB.com articles about it, and missed the 2nd inning. What happened in the outfield that Hawk was going on and on about, that resulted in the big inning for the Twins? Who screwed up, and what happened? Quentin misplayed a routine fly ball, Rios went over there to cover for him and dropped it (I like how Chris Rongey wanted to blame Rios for that play...). Had that been caught, Danks probably has a 1-2-3. You know how Hawk is about this kind of stuff...
  3. Another possible 11 game-winning streak? Hit me!
  4. This place sure ain't the Metrodome, if this was the Metrodome, we probably lose this game.
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) Does this play data take into account the fact that for decades teams have been batting their best players 3rd and 4th, and thus causing the 4th and 5th hitters to obviously have more AB's with runners on (considering the best hitters usually have the higher OBP on the team)? Sorry to beat a dead horse, but just got back from an errand I had to run. Go Sox! It doesn't, however, there have been studies done to explain what you just said. If you were to make a Markov Chain of nothing but average hitters 1-9, you will see that every hitter will come up a similar amount of plate appearances to the actual play by play data. In addition, in the normal play by play data, the clean-up hitter comes up with a man on base half the time, when you look at this from the average player model, it is virtually the same. So basically, it's really not all that dependent on what you just brought up. Plus, you should know that 3rd place hitters come up with two outs nearly 37% of the time. The highest figure of all hitters in the lineup. So putting your best hitter third is somewhat of a waste. Nevertheless, lineup optimization only gets you 10-15 runs per year, so it's not a gigantic difference. However, those 10-15 runs can result in an extra win or two.
  6. I thought Paulie hit that one out.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:22 PM) I enjoy Bobby's curves. Fatty chaser you are?
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) We're totally headed for 1 on, 2 outs for Thome vs Jenks I don't like that movie.
  9. Bobby's in.
  10. Gordon saved a run there.
  11. Not looking so good.
  12. Hardy's got a couple of two out hits against us this year in some late inning situations.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) Nice range by Rios...Delmon is freaking dangerous with the bat. He's that close to figuring it out. He just needs to take some more walks. He's no longer first pitch swinging.
  14. Alex's range = awesome.
  15. Hmm, Santos in.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) Should Rios have caught that ball? Probably, he had it in his glove, but I think he was afraid Carlos would run into him. But that is clearly Carlos' ball. If Rios' range wasn't so good, he doesn't get to that one.
  17. Good job there by Pierre. Between he and A.J., they must take the most awkward swings in all of MLB.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:58 PM) Be my guest...if you want to buy some "special" milk, just PM me. What's that taste like?
  19. Ozzie really played the numbers there. Thornton owns Kubel. 7 Ks in 11 ABs.
  20. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:55 PM) So now you leave Thornton in to get through the 8th, or at least through Thome, then bring Bobby in? Back him up with Santos. You at least him pitch to Thome.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) Thornton with the gas. How'd we get our 8 runs? Who's the hero offensively? Lots of people. Beckham, A.J., even Juan Pierre.
  22. HE GAWN! Putz's bro keeps his streak alive.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 15, 2010 -> 09:48 PM) I really hate how fans at stadiums always thing EVERY FLY BALL EVER is a homerun. It's sometimes hard to tell. But yeah, it gets annoying when it's just a routine fly ball.
