He's been absolutely terrible this year, almost worse than Randy Williams. He has more walks than strike outs, his fastball velocity is down 2 MPH, and yet he still intrigues me. Erick Threets is not the answer, he hasn't proven that he is the answer. Adding a veteran like Sherrill who has had success before wouldn't be a terrible idea. He's mainly struggled against righties this year, so having him as a LOOGY can't hurt. He's making $4.5 million and he will make around ~$2 million the rest of the way. He hits free agency next year. Nothing in his current numbers tells me that Sherrill's horrible numbers are due to something that's not his fault, but you know, Don Cooper can work some magic and we really aren't in a position to nitpick at LOOGYs. I'd be willing to to take a shot at him.

I don't think it's nibbling. These hitters usually can't catch up to the fastball. He gets ahead by these guys either taking or fouling his fastball off. But then, he can't finish these guys off since his location isn't as good and they just keep fouling his pitches off by extending the at bat. For a guy who throws nothing but fastballs, that's not a good thing. The more they see of his fastball, the easier it is for them to pick one and hit it.

I see some small differences in the release point hight, maybe a couple of inches at most. There's also a difference in the release point from the top view, also by a couple of inches. His strike zone from the last month looks like he's not elevating the high fastball enough, he also appears to have a lot more very inside pitches. Like I said, I'm not an expert at pitch f/x, but I see differences.
