Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey
Weird how Tosar didn't get the hitting coach job. Castro is Cuban, I wonder if he got the nod because he might be able to get along better with the Cubans on the roster.

Yeah, that's the good thing about both games starting at the same time.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
Jose usually finishes the year strong, but he was basically a singles hitter last year down the stretch. There are some bad signs, but I think a change of scenery and Houston having better coaches and analytics will help him decline more gracefully.

Mike Clevinger to Sox per Rosenthal
I feel like this is more Hahn getting a guy he's liked since 2020.

Both guys coming off TJS...no thanks

And then they traded him for a whopping $19 million in guaranteed money...

2023 MLB offseason signings and rumors thread
Who would the Twins be willing to trade to us from their rotation? I doubt they'd trade any of their cost-controlled guys in Ryan, Ober, or Winder. Mahle and Maeda have injury issues. Gray would make sense, but the only way he's coming back is if the Twins are punting on 2023 and rebuilding.

Feels like Milwaukee is doing what the Sox did with Kimbrel last year.

Leury and Kelly were definitely TLR-influenced moves. We overpaid Kelly even though he was injured at the time of his signing.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Alright, here's what I don't get... Jerry was fine with Hahn picking up Kimbrel's $16 million option, but he wasn't ok with paying $2 million more for Rodon's QO? That money isn't even guaranteed since Rodon might reject it. And going by the deal he ended up getting, he probably would have rejected the QO and signed elsewhere. The Sox cost themselves a comp pick just because Jerry was penny pinching over $2 million imaginary dollars.

This news just made his day for sure.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Jerry must buy all the cheapest s%*# he can on Amazon, only to find out they break after a few uses. Then he goes and buys the cheap product again, thinking that's better than spending $5 more on a more durable product.

Q is probably gonna get what Tyler Anderson got. 2-3 years for $30-40 million.

Looks like Heyman's $75 million prediction wasn't as crazy as I thought.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
Yeah at this point it's just business. Even if Vaughn wasn't on the team, I don't know if giving Jose another 3 year deal would have been smart. Houston can maybe change his swing/approach more to prolong his career, but that wasn't gonna happen on the Sox.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
The Astros are gonna get him to pull the ball in the air more and he's gonna hit a bunch of homers into the Crawford boxes.

It seems like lots of s%*# happened behind the scenes in ST last year that we didn't know about. Nobody knew that Tony had a serious health issue. We all just thought he was old.

I was hoping he'd sign with San Diego.

3 year $50 million deal seems about right.

Well this sucks. We'll get to see Jose on opening day...in an Astros uniform.

I blame Morossi for saying more than $8 million. Little did he know, it's 50% more than $8 million. Imagine if he said Judge would get more than $200 million and it ended up being a $300 million deal.

This should be tagged as a sponsored tweet by Boras Corp.

I kind of agree with you. $12 million makes it seem like other teams were at least interested. $8 million deals are reserved for guys that teams sign for back end rotation depth towards the end of free agency. That being said, this is the Sox, and they might have just decided to set the market for back end rotation starters...in November. I think a fair deal for Clevinger was probably like 1 year $10 million. $12 million does seem like a slight overpay.

Maybe a $1 year $10 million deal with a $2 million buyout on his option?
