2013 White Sox "Family Sundays" announced
Don't y'all be hatin' on my non-drivin' "modern family." I never said that this wasn't a good, postive thing, just that it isn't necessarily going to save me any money, based on how I take my kids to the game.

2013 White Sox "Family Sundays" announced
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Nov 15, 2012 -> 06:04 PM) It's actually not a better deal if you do the math... I know Barbie once said, "Math is hard," but . . . 2012 "Kids Day" Sunday bleacher cost 7/8/12 (me and 2 kids) $38 + $1 + $1 = $ 40 2013 Family Sunday bleacher cost (me and 2 kids) $15 + $15 + $15 = $45 $40

2013 White Sox "Family Sundays" announced
I think the old format where kids got in for 1$ with a paid adult on select "Kids' Day" Sundays were a better deal, but this will open it up to more folks on more than just a few, select Sundays.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread
Rivals has Groce's first Illini class at #10 nationally; Scout a more sober #22. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/break...0,5575326.story That news helps make the abomination that is Illini football a bit easier to endure. If Groce is half as capable as I fear Beckman is incompetent, there may be hope in Champaign yet.

David Petraeus resigns after banging non-wife
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Nov 9, 2012 -> 05:00 PM) Actually she's not bad: On the other hand, his poor devoted, supportive wife of 37 years bears a striking resemblance to Benjamin Franklin.

Has anyone here picked up Tom Wolfe's "Back to Blood" yet? I've enjoyed all of his novels, but each one less than the one before.

**2012 Election Day thread**
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 03:58 PM) Tell you the truth I never even thought of that as I perused the ballot. Interesting concept, though. A few years back, when the IL governors' race was between Blago and Judy Baar Topinka, I wrote in Abraham Lincoln. Those were less attractive options than the main event today, but not by too much.

Predict the Election
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 2, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Are Mitt and Barack going to spend Monday night hanging out in a Hot Tub Time Machine? Of course not. Those only go backwards. They will use a DeLorean.

Predict the Election
I voted early today. Usually, it makes me feel proud and patriotic. Today, it made me feel like I wanted to take a shower.

Predict the Election
I'll predict a popular/electoral split, with Obama winning the latter by a whisper, but I honestly can see any number of scenarios.

Who are you rooting for in 2012 MLB Playoffs?
The Cards lost their manager, a perennial MVP candidate, their DP combo, and one of their top starters from a championship club, and yet are about to advance to the WS from the wild-card for the second straight year. Color me impressed. Go Redbirds. Edit: I forgot to mention they are also doing it without Fat Elvis. And a full year of Cody Rasmus. (for Steve)

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 10:22 PM) Bob Brenly bids adieu to the Cubs. Too bad, he was pretty good in that booth. That can't be right. No one would ever leave that job for a similar job with another team.

Fidel Castro close to death

The Debates!
QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Oct 17, 2012 -> 10:52 AM) This Mittens loves mentioning his time as Mass. Gov. and how he worked with Dems, Obama should just flat out ask him why he isn't contesting his state. BTW, when is the last time a former Gov. of a state didn't carry his state in a presidential election? Probably a long time ago I would guess. I'll bet 1956, when Stevenson lost Illinois.

2012 Films Thread
"The Master" was typical PTA: gorgeous, ambitious, extremely well-acted, thought provoking, but with a weak plot and an unfullfilling story with an ending, but no real conclusion.

2012 Ryder Cup
Great start for the home team! Usually we have to play catch up after Day 1. It was a great experience being there, although frankly it was hard to catch a lot of golf, with action only going on at four different holes at a time. Strategy was to try and pick a front 9 location where you could see both a tee and a green, then dash to a similar back 9 location to catch the groups coming thorugh again. Some of those Euro fans are f***ing nuts. Lots of fun, fairly good-natured s*** blowing back and forth. Traffic was a nightmare in the morning.

2012 Ryder Cup
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 04:16 PM) I wanted to, but the $300 cost per ticket prevented that from happening. I was lucky. Entered and won the PGA's lottery over a year ago, so I only paid $125/per.

The Republican Thread
QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) Not 'newly'. The media seems to have gone out of its way to find report cards from Romney's prep school and even grade school, but can't seem to 'find' anything on Obama's grades. More like a challenge to actually try and be neutral and report both sides. They hide tapes of private donor meetings from the public, only report what they want to report, so this is just more of the same. If Obama wants to be known as the smartest person in the room, let's see some proof of it. You don't need proof that Romney is rich. And since Harry Reid can do it, so can everyone else. I heard Obama is stupid from some unnamed person who says he used to work with him. It's not up to me to prove he is stupid, but up to him to prove he isn't. Not that it has anything to do with whether he deserves reelection, but the man: a) got into Harvard Law School; 2) made the Harvard Law Review; and was elected as its President by his Harvard law peers. I was Dean's List at a Big10 U and scored in the 92% on my LSAT and couldn't do that, or make Law Review at my Big10 Law school. Even if you account for "affirmative action" as a basis for admission to Harvard Law (which is what I assume implicitly underlies this issue), you can't accomplish items (2) and (3) as a dummy, or on any kind of free pass. No way. So if that's not "some proof" that the guy is smarter than the average bear, I don't know what is, and the transcripts won't "end" this issue for some people any more than the birth certificate did that one.
