QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 7, 2011 -> 01:56 PM) 1984 team was more disapponting to me. No question about it

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 7, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I'm pretty sure we were all talking about a firesale May 7 of last year too. ... and we should have done it

Sox (11-21) vs Mariners (15-17) 5/6 @ 9:10 CSN
shago replied to chisox2334's topic in 2011 Season in Review
I predict that against all odds we blow King Felix out by the 5th and win a high scoring game. Let's go Sox! (fire Ozzie!) -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) The good news is that no matter how good he is, teams may want to avoid the PR hit of giving 100 million to a 20 game loser. Hard to blame the 0-5 record on his pitching............... -
QUOTE (Jake @ May 6, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) While I hold Pierre in higher regard than probably anyone else here, I think a quick fix is to call up Dayan and give him starts in LF. If an outsider looked at his MLB stats from last year and saw he still wasn't playing with us, they'd be shocked. He's been hot if you check his last 10 game stats in Charlotte. The only unknown is if his OF defense hasn't progressed enough to put him out there yet. Not gonna happen unless Ozzie is gone... Reason #46 why he should no longer be manager

Love the banner ... Only one worth a damn. Might add Buehrle just because. No one else deserves it...

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ May 5, 2011 -> 09:57 PM) Pierre and AJ are KILLING this team this season. Don't forget Rios
-
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 4, 2011 -> 05:57 PM) Benching Pierre is the easiest move to improving the team which is why it's so disheartening to see him day in, day out. See Kotsay 2010 ... JP is thrown out 50%of the time ... and is a Cub to boot. Would rather start The Elf

QUOTE (Real @ May 4, 2011 -> 03:41 PM) Juan Pierre ladies. Dude needs released yesterday Ozzie's favorite player, what else do you need to know about this squad

QUOTE (T R U @ May 4, 2011 -> 02:19 PM) man we are just an awful stealing team Yet Ozzie keeps sending 'em ... another wasted baserunner, well done Oz.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2011 -> 03:02 PM) I would not be a better hitting coach than Greg Walker. Your point is invalid. Point taken
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:47 PM) That would be the title of the thread. The responses I made were to the idea that Larry Walker would be a good hitting coach because he was a good hitter. Right, which was someone else's point, to which I was making the point that anyone would be better than Walker (the point of the thread) and that I would certainly take my chances on a good hitter with no track record vs. an average hitter with a poor track record. Regardless, you win.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) Despite what you are turning it into, it has nothing to do with Greg Walker's performance. Title of Post: "fire walker: it has to be done"
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) There is "defending the status quo" and there is just making stuff up. The history of baseball has shown there is vitrually zero correlation between being a great hitter, and being able to teach hitting. I'm going to go with history here, versus some odd random man-crush. I don't have any bid specifically for Walker, I was just replying to someone else's idea. Again, avoiding the point, which is that as the history buff that you are, no one is making-up Greg Walker's performance. Hard to argue for that, but keep running with it if ya like...
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 3, 2011 -> 02:02 PM) Can Larry Walker bring Coors Field with him? vs. the Cell, what's the difference come summer time??? Doesn't help you hit for AVG or draw walks
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2011 -> 01:52 PM) Milkman FTW. http://www.baseball-reference.com/bullpen/...coaching_staffs Check out this list, which includes hitting and pitching coaches, and convince that being able to do something well, and being able to teach something aren't two completely different things. Hear ya, but some good names on that list along with the journeymen. Respect that you religiously defend the status quo ... I would continue to argue that it's clearly not working and what's the downside in trying something else? Plenty of qualified people for that position, like Larry, who are worth a shot and would be hard-pressed to do worse than Greg has
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 3, 2011 -> 01:43 PM) Good hitters don't automatically make good hitting coaches, just as they don't automatically make bad hitting coaches or bad hitters automatically make good hitting coaches. I'll take my chances with a career .313 BA and .965 OPS over 17 seasons and no track record vs. a very average hitter over 9 seasons and bad track record as a coach any day...

QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ May 3, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) He's only 15 short of Sandy Koufax. ... and only 110bps higher ERA -
QUOTE (oldsox @ May 3, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) Just read an article on Larry Walker in Denver Post -- He is out of baseball and would love a coaching gig. He had one of the best five year runs of all time (1997-2001). reat hitter, great defensive OF, etc. Exactly, Larry Walker was actually a good hitter when he played unlike Greg (see below): Career G AB R H 2B 3B HR GRSL RBI BB IBB SO SH SF HBP GIDP AVG OBP SLG 9 Years 855 2,864 368 746 164 19 113 2 444 268 28 520 3 22 20 61 .260 .326 .449

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) AJ is the one that helps starting pitchers perform over their head? And here I thought it was Don Cooper preaching the cutter, control within the strike zone, and working within a pitcher's limitations. Who needs a hitting coach...more like, WHO NEEDS A PITCHING COACH? Seriously, I understand that AJ calls a good game, but he doesn't *make* these pitchers perform well. You're right, calling pitches and locations doesn't help the pitcher. Especially those like Buehrle who never waive-off a pitch...
-
This is total crap ... if there was a real clubhouse issue, they would not have re-signed him. Additionally, AJ has made average starting pitchers outperform for years and we all know that at a minimum Buehrle respects him.
