  1. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 03:33 PM) I can't think of a more fitting way to end this season than what appears to be happening now. No kidding ... especially if Teahen hits something with the based loaded
  2. Going to be SO glad not to see JP and bunting next year
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 01:05 PM) Bringing back Mark Buehrle is going to be your fan draw while they unload other players like Floyd, Quentin, Danks, etc. I wish they would keep MB, but don't see that happening
  4. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:59 PM) I'm America. The Ozzie lovers are the Taliban. ^ THIS ^ The regime has fallen -- buh bye Walker -- best week of the season!!
  5. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) Does this mean we can finally get around to trading Jermaine Dye for Homer Bailey? LOL
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) No matter who they hire they arent going to draw much after this season. I am cancelling after 9 years and I am sure more are on that boat. It's a complete rebuilding phase while paying out Dunn and Rios and using Paulie as the fan draw ... Manager not going to mean much for the next few years
  7. Very excited ... not expecting immediate results, do think we are rebuilding, but tired of the black cloud over the franchise and clubhouse. Even a 65-97 season in a rebuild mode with some young talent would be better than watching this year over again. New era!
  8. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 12:03 AM) Be sure to stop-by to pick-up your mustard and teal 2012 Marlins gear -- limited supplies available. That is just hideous
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 27, 2011 -> 05:56 AM) I'd say it's something like this: 75% - Alomar 20% - Bell 4% - Martinez 1% - Other I'm rooting for Martinez. Think we would all love to see that, but not going to happen. This team is clearly heading into a rebuilding phase and it will be tough to recruit Martinez IMO. Think your odds here are pretty spot-on and think unfortunately we will end-up with a milktoast manager like Alomar to oversee the rough patch for the next 2-3 years ... Alomar just sounds/feels like a Jerry hire, doesn't he?
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 26, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) Giddy. wooooooooooooHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! Over-the-moon.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 09:43 AM) So let me make sure I get this... JR is a Cheap Bastard who in order to save two million on Ozzie Guillen is going to put really bad teams onto the field, cut payroll, and drive fans off, thus costing himself way more than two million dollars? Not what I'm saying. JR has a long track record with the Sox/Bulls. He spends when there is a chance to win and while the business has a chance to make money. The board I think is under-weighting the liklihood that Ozzie returns for a couple reasons. Again, an opinion. The team is going to stink for years to come and is entering a rebuilding process. We are aging, have limited prospects and two very expensive, bad contracts and a pitching staff that is in decline. JR would rather re-sign Ozzie than pay-up to bring in a new, probably more expensive, manager to oversee the rebuilding process when he can bring back Ozzie, who regardless of many of our views, at least draws media attention and has some fan appeal while the team stinks for a period of time.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) We have a $125 million payroll, with a mostly empty stadium. If he was a cheap bastard he would have dumped every player with a decent contract that he could. Welcome to the next 10 years ... He spent 125 because they still have enough advanced ticket sales and tv revenue due to past successes and made one final go at it given the aging roster. Now that the team stinks, is generally aging and has a couple bad contracts, we are in a rebuilding mode. JR (cheap/good business man/whatever) will be happy to have Ozzie back to oversee what will otherwise be a lousy couple years because he is still a media/fan draw regardless of how much most of us can't stand him ...
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 21, 2011 -> 01:10 PM) Kenny wanted to hire Cito Gaston. The rumor at the time was that he wanted too much money, so JR forced Kenny to interview Ozzie. JR is a cheap bastard despite conventional wisdom and Ozzie will be back because he's cheap on a relative basis and draws media and fan attention despite what we all think on Soxtalk
  14. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 15, 2011 -> 02:49 PM) I'm still not buying that Ozzie is gone until Ozzie is gone Ozzie will be the manager of the White Sox next year with all of the same staff
  15. QUOTE (SI1020 @ Sep 14, 2011 -> 02:15 PM) They are ranked according to plate appearances. No way Dunn is number 20 on the list of worst players. Absolutely, without question, number one
  16. God bless Joe Crede -- the real World Series MVP ... Please JR, give him a job
  17. 1. Alex Rios: -26.4 2. Adam Dunn: -19.4 3. Alcides Escobar: -19.4 4. Aaron Hill: -17.4 5. Brent Morel: -16.5 6. Gordon Beckham: -16.5 Greg Walker ladies and gentlemen -- let's stick with him, he's a good guy
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 12, 2011 -> 03:26 PM) If he wants to go to Florida and Florida wants him, its possible to arrange a buyout also How could it get any worse and more depressing than this season. Good luck to him in Florida. How could a change here be bad for us? Sounds like a good mutual situation... That said, I 100% guarantee JR will make him an extension offer -- which stinks for us
  19. Rios, Dunn, the ultimate 1-2 punch!!! Striking fear in no one
  20. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 5, 2011 -> 05:23 PM) Give me Super Joe! Give me Tim Laker while you're at it...this team obviously needs more Knights Why not? Francona came out of our farm system.....
  21. There were a lot of great/funny posts that seem to have disappeared over the last 24 hrs. Additionally, the original threads were not just 'we want Ozzie gone'
  22. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:18 PM) Do you really have to ask this question?? In 1917 the Sox won it all. In the 88 years after that, they made the playoffs 5 times, the WS 2 times, and that's it. Zero championships. That's a struggling franchise. Until 2005. Look at how people adore Ditka in Chicago. He won one Super Bowl but should have won more with the teams he had. He is royalty around here. If the Cubs ever win it all, their manager or GM could pull an OJ two years after, and most of Chicago would forgive him. Let's not bring Iron Mike into this... Couple things, one, Ditka was a great player for the Bears. Two, he had a much better fashion sense with those sweaters and a great mustache. Three, he cooks some mean ribs at his restaurant. Four, he could call the 3-4 HB trap on first down better than any coach in NFL history. Five, the Cubs will never win the World Series again....................
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 11:08 PM) 1. You realize they both are AR, right? 2. Better Fielder? I don't know about that. I remember some bad reads late in 2005 that hurt the Sox late vs Cleveland. 3. Better Hitter? Yeah, Rios has been that bad this year, but overall I'd rather take my chances on the more talented one 4. Fan Favorite? Yes, 2005, that's why Ozzie should never be fired, blah blah blah 5. Clubhouse Leader? Do you really think the guys in the clubhouse will give a f*** about Aaron Rowand? A player who got cut with a large salary by a team in contention? Just because 3 guys on the roster played with him 6 years ago? His clubhouse leadership is doing great in SF. Alex Rios sucks and his contract is awful, but let's not act like the same isn't true about Rowand. The Giants are eating over $12 mil of his contract just to keep him off their roster. All good points, but the Steve Perry connection??? - can i play the 'cmon' argument?
  24. An average (strong statement) shortstop: career .264 AVG 28 HRs 169 SBs (108 CS) and an overrated fielder in 16 MLB seasons. Only 2 playoff performances as a manager of one of the highest payroll clubs in a lousy division in his tenure as manager including an '05 club that won despite him and had chemistry because of players like Rowand and Crede who truly kept the clubhouse 'loose' according to most recounts of our miraculous run. I don't get it. After games like tonight (8/31), who actually can still support this guy? Not to mention a foul-mouthed jerk.......
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2011 -> 09:26 PM) I don't care how bad Aaron is now... in a heartbeat. Whatever it takes. If nothing else AR is a better fielder, better hitter, fan favorite, and the clubhouse leader (along with Crede) who had a helluva lot more to do with our 2005 season than Ozzie Fu€kin Guillen. Not to mention that lazy, stupid, POS Alex Rios, who flat out sucks. Do it KW - zero downside
