  1. QUOTE (daa84 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 08:24 AM) stone is ok, but he has 2 main problems. 1) he talks wayyy too much. You don't need to analyze every little thing that goes in the game. and 2) 90% of the stuff he decides to analyze, is like baseball 101. Now I know most that post on soxtalk have a baseball IQ above that of the average fan, so doesn't it seem to you guys like Stone is trying to teach baseball to a 2nd grader? I love Hawk. I am the complete opposite of almost every fan when it comes to announcers though. I loved Joe Morgan. Basically, I love old ball players who tell stories. Thats the type of stuff you can only really learn from those guys. I know everyone makes fun of Morgan for his "Al Oliver comment," but you know what? As dumb of a comment as it might have been (and it was dumb) if he hadn't said it, I probably wouldn't know who Al oliver is. Same thing with Hawk. Now of course I would know who Yaz is without hawk, but im not sure I'd know much about Tony conigliaro, or bert campernaris if it wasnt for hawk Love the Hawk, we're Sox fans, what's wrong with a little enthusiasm? (a la DeNiro in the Untouchables) ... Based on Hawk alone, Charisma should be +6. Hawk, keep doin' what ur doin' Stoney poney, on the other hand, really stinks, total snooze, everything said above I agree with, not to mention he will always be a Cubs guy to me ...
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Feb 17, 2012 -> 12:47 PM) Spring Training hasn't even started, and SI is giving credit to Walker for helping adjusst the swing of Braves' Jason Heyward. Then he will be in AAA in no time
  3. Filling minor league rosters with old garbage ... The guy sux donkey b*lls
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 10:41 AM) Not true. The profit number is from 2010 season. Obviously, that's the point. Good work as always.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 9, 2012 -> 10:30 AM) That is not this years publication. That is based on the 2010 season. Half-true. Not based on 2010 season, written on March 28th, 2011 incorporating payroll projections including the 2011 roster. Obviously didn't account for actual day-of ticket sales, but did account for 70% of the revenue picture including TV sales, season tickets, etc. Therefore, pretty accurate snapshot... Besides, doesn't change the point about JR's motivations with either the Bulls or the Sox. Cash cows. Motivation based on that.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 8, 2012 -> 02:15 PM) Lucky or smart or both, JR bought the Bulls the Carleton Sheets way, no money down. George Steinbrenner and Co. wanted out so badly, they basically handed the keys to JR in exchange for assuming some debt, and that was with Michael Jordan on the roster. I wouldn't mind one of my investments working out like that. Let's just say that JR knows how to run a sports franchise --- for profit. Even in last year's "All-in" effort, Forbes estimates he raked-in $28mm, making the White Sox among the most profitable teams in MLB. The Bulls are one of only 4 NBA teams that is currently profitable. While JR may like a winner from time-to-time, let's not kid ourselves on his real motivation. Respond accordingly.......... http://www.forbes.com/lists/2011/33/baseba...Sox_334758.html
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) I'll be honest, I'm incredibly proud of Jerry and KW for not matching this offer. Absolutely
  8. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Dec 6, 2011 -> 08:27 PM) I like getting Molina back, but come on Kenny we should of received another solid prospect in return. 3 years- 8.25 million. It will be very interesting to compare how much Billy Beane will get for Bailey. Let me guess it will be a lot more than Molina. Kenny always jumps the gun to early on his trades. Even with his injuries, Santos is not Andrew Bailey. SS will have a quicker decline than Thigpen...
  9. Santos -- OVER-RATED (clap, clap, clap) OVERRRR-RATED.... Dude was a SS prospect. Love the kid, good luck to him. Did a really classy interview on Comcast post announcement. That said, we all know the holy grail is starting pitching in the AL and we got a kid who can throw strikes. That adds huge franchise value because ultimately he will be a middle+ starter in the bigs and that's worth a lot more than a flash-in-the-pan closer we don't need during a rebuild.
  10. How can you not LOVE this trade?! Kid's a possible great SP. We will be w/o MB; Danks/Floyd in 2yrs. Awesome stuff. Santos was shaky all year, high counts, blown saves (or near misses). What do we need a closer for in a rebuild??
  11. Just in Veal jersey sales alone, this makes sense
  12. I hope the White Sox do not re-sign MB, as much as I would be sad to see him in another uniform. We all know he is going to maximize a 'walk-off' contract and while it would be nice to see him play out his career on the Southside, we don't want to pay to see that happen here. That said, the bigger reason I don't want them to pay-up to sign him is because we are not winning a WS with this line-up and the couple muppets like Rios and Dunn we are committed to. I would rather them use the money to sign some younger players or develop options with the money while we are in re-building mode. There's a lot more we could do with $30+ million than watch one of our favorite players diminish into the sunset .... Let him do that in Florida with the other elderly folk
  13. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 02:48 PM) Picking and choosing when to be aggressive does not mean abandoning on base percentage. I like what I just read. Totally agree ... free the Manto
  14. I think the Sox should tell them not to edit their pre-game reel and enjoy the humor of it ... bfd
  15. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) Teams are going to be lining up for Danks, huh? Yankees are, what else do you need to know
  16. Alex Rios [ fill-in-the-blank ] ........................ Fire Manto
  17. 2005 White Sox, win because of pitching ... number one starter, Yankees reject and headcase, 'the Count' .... Ozzie go f^ck yourself. Cant wait for you to suck with the Marlins
  18. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:10 PM) Really? absolutely - this is a perfect move
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) This is obviously a "We're going to suck for 3 to 5 years so who cares" move. Of course!!! WE ARE A REBUILDING FRANCHISE PEOPLE............ Dave Martinez is going to manage the Red Sox. For what we have, this is awesome!!! I also called it a year ago. Love it.
  20. QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 28, 2011 -> 07:58 PM) For whatever reason, 80 wins looks a lot better than 79 to me. Oh well, it's irrelevant either way. We get a better pick this way anyways. I can't believe they won 79 games thinking back.................
  21. Robin Ventura for every coaching position
