Completely agree. I doubt very much that we see Eloy Jimenez this season. Kopech was a different story. He'd spent longer in AAA and in order for them to get him up to 160-165 innings, he needs to pitch in the majors. Those minor league innings aren't available

They are "pushing it" because he's not injured. Struggling with command and control. He'll be in instructs most likely trying to get it ironed out. He's not though. He has a 20% walk rate in AA with a 134 wRC+. That's going down obviously but he makes fewer outs than many of the guys on that team. I know that you used the comparison because they both look at strikes but at least he walks a shitload. If people don't like Moncada's approach, they are going to hate Zack Collins

It doesn't mean that it makes sense to use a spot on a guy like Ian Hamilton though who doesn't need to be added in a losing season anyway. That's always been my point.

None of us would care, no. It's a realistic issue though. It's not a video game. They aren't just going to discard guys for no reason. There's no reason to add anyone that doesn't need to be added.

It's obviously not a first rounder but Bryce Bush looks pretty good so far. Michael Kopech and Dylan Cease were both HS picks that the organization acquired and their methods have helped them improve and ascend as prospects. The Sox need to not draft bad high schoolers and force them through the system at an unfairly rapid pace. They 100% should and will start taking more prep players. I had some reservations about the Madrigal pick myself but judging players (especially college ones) on anything they do in their draft year is generally a fool's errand.

I agree with you that Ian Hamilton deserves to be in the big leagues. It's not a video game though. Teams aren't just going to discard a bunch of guys just so they can add players that aren't currently needed.

Holding onto him longer is pointless though. Give the innings to Fry, Bummer and Frare down the stretch here.

This deal makes perfect sense. This was Avilan's value. They saved the $$ and they need to clear at least 9 spots for the Rule-5 draft. They couldn't afford to carry him on the 40-man this off-season when other players needed to be added. They also will bring back Bummer in September and Frare needs to be added as well. Those are your bullpen lefties next year.

There is no word on Cease. He was struggling and it was wet out. He has an innings limit that is soon approaching. I wouldn't worry about it.

It's easy for you and I to sit here and say to discard random guys like it's a video game. I doubt the Sox want to just dump all those players though to add a guy that they don't need to add yet while they're trying to lose on purpose.

This started with a conversation I was having on twitter with Fornelli and Nick from BPSS. They were saying that Ian Hamilton should be in the majors. While I agree that he's capable and probably deserving, I doubt we see him this year. Has nothing to do with service time though, just 40-man roster space. These players need to be protected for the Rule-5: Kopech, Cease, Adams, Stephens, Zavala, Burr, Frare, Ruiz, and Medeiros. Hamilton doesn't need to be added to the 40 yet so there's no reason to use a spot on him for now. That was my whole point. The roster gymnastics here should be fun.

Thanks for reading guys. I appreciate the positive response. My biggest takeaway from talking to everyone was that Hostetler really lets his people work on day three. He builds credibility and encourages strong work ethic by rewarding guys for their hard work all year. Other area scouts mentioned to Bryce Bush after the fact that their organizations wouldn't take him or set aside the $$ to sign him without seeing him in person. Many scouting directors and cross-checkers just didn't have to the time to see an athletic prep player in Michigan in late May and early June. Hostetler deserves credit for trusting Wechsler in this case.

I have Collins at #6 in the system. He has a 140 wRC+ in AA and I love his offensive profile. Even if he's a part-time catcher, 1B, DH his offensive skill-set still makes him a prospect. I really like Dunning as well but his injury has left me with some uncertainty obviously.

There will be lots of Bryce Bush info coming this week. I interviewed him this week along with NIck Hostetler, the signing scout and two of his high school coaches

He could be a high leverage type. I personally just don't think he's top 30 in a top 3 system in the sport. I ranked back end starters over him because they are more valuable. I generally don't rank relievers very high. Burdi/Hamilton/Johnson are a different animal IMO

I have tons of info. I'm pairing it down and waiting on a few more details. Should be early next week.

My rule is that relievers either need an outside chance at starting or they need to be high-leverage types. I included Burdi, Hamilton and Johnson in my top 30.
