QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:18 PM) Lots of thirsty people in that house. I like mixing in other shows. Good way to get fresh faces in. I don't watch Big Brother but that chick that Bananas is trying to hook up with is hot.

QUOTE (wrathofhahn @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 02:17 PM) Pretty sure the plan is to start Kopech down in AA/AAA. Rondon is a huge ??? from a health standpoint. Shields looked done last year. The last thing I want to do is burn through our young guys service time playing them in meaningless games both Fulmer and Giolito were able to preserve an extra year by not calling them up at the beginning of the season. It's Rodon and he should be back by June at the latest. Kopech will be starting in AAA. The rotation is likely: Shields/Giolito/Lopez/Gonzalez/Fulmer to start the year. Rodon will take a spot at some point. Michael Kopech will take a spot at some point.

How is there not a thread yet? What do we think guys?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:59 PM) Who else is likely bound for the rotation at Charlotte other than Kopech? Charlotte rotation: 1. Michael Kopech 2. Spencer Adams 3. Jordan Guerrero 4. Jordan Stephens 5.Dylan Covey 6. Tyler Danish

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:41 PM) Miguel is OK by me. How were his peripherals before I decide whether he's good or not. I don't despise him or anything. As far as Shields/Opening Day. Geez. If he pitches Opening Day it's telling the world and our fans: "The White Sox wish to tank one more season. Please bear with us as we tank. And please enjoy your 25 dollar parking and 10 dollar beer. We are allowed to charge that while giving you James Shields one more season before we get good. That is all." Greg, parking is $20. Only $10 on Sundays though.

FS: A Good Problem - too many A-ball outfield prospects

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 01:32 PM) Great article. I think you nailed it, though I'd probably lean toward putting Robert on the EST/Rookie Ball track Hahn has said to expect to expect him in A ball. He'll either be in Kannapolis or Winston-Salem. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 11, 2018 -> 11:07 AM) Love it. Happy to see Miguel back on the south side. Hopefully this means Covey becomes the long relief arm in the pen. I'd be surprised if Covey is on the opening day roster actually

Jeff Hughes of DaBearsBlog reported Harry Hiestand yesterday. He posted Mark Helfrich as OC in the comments section on his site but only speculated on twitter. Mully and other beat guys have confirmed this morning. Helfrich addition would be fascinating.

QUOTE (cjgalloway @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 12:21 PM) I'm thinking 4 for sure.. With probably Cease at the back end. Who are you thinking is the 5th for sure? Hansen is absolutely on it.

QUOTE (KnightsOnMintSt @ Jan 10, 2018 -> 10:54 AM) According to MLB, the White Sox will have 6 in the Top 100. Who said that? They have 6 on current list but that isn't updated. THey'll have 5 for sure though. I'm guessing they still have Rutherford on it.

Mirotic is doubtful for Knicks game with an illness. I think he's played his last game with the Bulls. They are holding him out. -
Josh Norris had some interesting tidbits in his chat on BA today: He's very high on Ian Hamilton. Said he has a 99 mph FB and is throwing a mid 90's slider. Talked about how Sox will have makings of a lockdown bullpen soon with Burdi, Hamilton and Vieira. He said Luis Gonzalez could be in the top 10 of the Sox system next year or he's one of the sleeper guys. He also confirmed that OF Tito Polo and SS Lenyn Sosa will be on the top 30.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 8, 2018 -> 09:12 AM) Interesting. Worries me a bit. While it's nice to see Hansen up there, you know that Sheets, Rutherford and Burger aren't jumping over Cease because of a great year. I'm fine with it though. I think I would probably move back on Cease and ask him to prove it for a year. If our org can get him up in innings and health as successfully as we were with Kopech and Hansen last year, then we'll see him back. I do hope though that it's because they hear positive things on Dunning being more than backend fodder, and something encouraging on Rutherford, Burger and Sheets. They like Dunning as a #3 starter. They were positive on Cease's stuff but it's the innings that are the issue. I think he's likely a reliever but he'll be pretty dominating in that role. I think Hansen is a top 25-30 prospect in baseball at this time next year. They think Burger stays at 3B as do I. Seeing Sheets that high was interesting. They disregarded his season in A ball because of the amount of games he had played. He hit well and just didn't hit for power. He drew a ton of walks too. They compared him to Lucas Duda. That team at Winston Salem could have Burger, Sheets, Robert, Rutherford, and Adolfo in their lineup theoretically.

White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 02:49 PM) See, I don't see the evidence. His advanced stats were the worst of his career in 2016, just beating out his 2015. Last year they rebounded a bit as he kept the ball in the park, and suspiciously threw the ball harder during his age 33 season. His age 34 season projections seem to take him more toward the replacement level pitcher he was in 2016. Replacement level 34 year olds aren't too flippable. Evidence has been posted. You are choosing to ignore it. 3.70 ERA, 2.23 FIP, 3.08 xFIP, 10.29 K/9, 3.21 BB/9, 54% GB rate. 1.7 fWAR. I'm sorry. That's not a pitcher who sucks. It just isn't. The biggest gripe is the home runs allowed and the blown saves. He probably doesn't have to close in Chicago. There's literally no downside to the trade. -
White Sox acquire Joakim Soria, Luis Avilan and $3 Million
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
This trade is so good that I'm not really sure how the White Sox were able to pull it off. They get two veteran relievers for basically just money. Avilan is death on lefties and had a 2.96 FIP last year. Soria, while blowing saves, struck out 10 batters per 9 and posted a 2.23 FIP. He likely won't be closing here and it doesn't matter anyway. The Sox got money, gave up nothing, and can likely trade both of these guys in July and get a hell of a lot more than Jake Peter. Excellent work. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 5, 2018 -> 08:51 AM) I think people should quit giving Greg much crap about Soria. If he were so great, KC wouldn't have had to give up Alexander to get rid of the contract. Alexander might be a flash in the pan, Kelly Wunsch style, but he had some value. There's a pretty good chance the guy sucks, but from a White Sox point of view it makes sense to eat the money and gain at least another reliever as the paychecks for bullpen arms are rising very quickly. The deal makes no sense for Kansas City. Thye gave up multiple years of a really good LH reliever to dump Soria's contract so that they can overpay Eric Hosmer drastically. Woof. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 09:39 PM) He's so bad a city is rejoicing he's gone. I'll stop now but you guys have to calm down about Soria. He's really bad. Ask Caulfield. He has the numbers. If Coop can save him then yes you could 'maybe' flip him. But if Coop can't, I'm surprised you guys who don't seem to want to spend Jerry's money are OK with 9 million going to this guy per season. Here's how bad he is: "Over the last two seasons, Soria had 14 blown saves and a 3.89 ERA. He became a lightning rod for the frustrations of Royals fans, who had become accustomed to unprecedented success from a bullpen combination of Kelvin Herrera, Wade Davis and Greg Holland." Greg, stop. I don't need to ask Caulfield or any dumbass Kansas City goobers s***. You are acting like a clown. I know, I should be used to it by now but I'm trying to catch up on an informative thread and you've hijacked it with nonsense. -
Fake Rumor: White Sox and Moustakas "Close" on Deal.
Y2Jimmy0 replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 4, 2018 -> 12:03 PM) Realistically if he was signing dirt cheap I'm fairly confident we could flip him and easily get returning value of the 3rd round pick we give up. edit: I'm 100% confident tbh Sox would forfeit their 2nd pick. Which will be around 45. Not happening. -

Big story today. Frank Lenti out as Head Coach and Mount Carmel and Jordan Lynch is taking over. MC reported it as a mutual parting but Lenti says otherwise. -
Bad. Very very bad.
-
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 02:18 PM) Right, but in the draft order you have listed already accounts for them getting the pick and that pushing us to 48, so if they don't get it then we are 47. Ahh I gotcha. My bad.
-
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Dec 29, 2017 -> 10:23 AM) So this moves the Sox up to 47 regardless. Either the Rockies don't get the pick for losing Holland or they do lose him and get the pick but then lose the competitive balance pick. Not necessarily true. The Rockies technically give up their 3rd pick. If Holland re-signs with them (highly unlikely) they'd forfeit their actual 2nd rounder which doesn't move Sox up at all.
