  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 22, 2017 -> 09:44 PM) Was there much complaining going on in the stands? Any laughter at the bad team on the field this year? Any mention of the alleged "rebuild" from the fans? Tell us bout the crowd's demeanor please. The majority of people I talk to are fine with the rebuild. They aren't idiots though.
  2. Holy s*** this thread is overreaction city. Gonna be a long 4 years.
  3. QUOTE (credezcrew24 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 02:25 PM) The has got to be a rule prohibiting trading cash for a teams bonus pool. That would be a ridiculous if the White Sox could trade cash for a teams unused allotments to save on the tax They wouldn't actually receive cash. They'd just receive the slot which gives them the bigger pool of their own money to spend. It keeps them from paying a bigger penalty. It's all money though so it's kind of semantics.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 01:32 PM) Teams that are not able to spend over $300k on players have to have some room left. This is true. Those teams can trade all of their slots.
  5. Sox could acquire some bonus pool money. It will be small but help. They have like almost $1 million still. Lets say they trade for $2 million in pool money. Then pay Robert $20 million. They'd pay a tax of $17 million. Does that make sense?
  6. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:16 AM) And the thread takes the inevitable turn to Jerry Reinsdorf culture of losing pissing match. I'm sorry mags.
  7. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:12 AM) Do those offers really have anything to do with Robert though? Gordon and Shark were proven MLB talents and Tanaka was significantly older and more polished at the time of signing his contract than Robert is now. Plus the Sox were "all in" then and looking to sign guys that could help the MLB team win right away. Comparing those guys to Robert is apples to oranges IMO. It was more to say they've offered contracts more than Abreu's in the past. People act like they won't pay more than $70 million for anyone ever and that's likely very untrue.
  8. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) This is always the issue. Hopefully a team gets nervous. If the Bears want to pick one in the 2nd, I think Dobbs or Peterman will be there. I don't think those guys are future starters though. If they miss on Watson/Kizer/Trubisky/Mahomes I hope they ignore the position personally.
  9. They did offer Samardzija in the the neighborhood of 80-90 million and went pretty far for Alex Gordon too. The Tanaka offer was for over $100 million as well I believe. They haven't signed any of these deals. They've been in that area though before.
  10. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:43 AM) I think they either trade down and take one later or take one in the second round. I don't see them taking a QB at #3. All 4 will likely be gone by #36 in my opinion. I'd love to trade back but I'm not sure anyone wants the #3 pick.
  11. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 09:20 AM) No,that isn't central to my view on this. My view is that this organization hates to sign prospects because (in Jerry's words, not mine) "Prospects are just prospects." Moreover, recent history indicates that this organization will inevitably fail to get the 20 year old youngster in international FA, but when it comes to landing the 30+ year old veteran who's in decline, "Kenny always gets his man." Alright. Well you aren't really being rational.
  12. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 08:02 AM) I watched like the first 2 or 3 episodes and stopped because I knew what was happening. Just a bad idea. Was it a bad idea? I think it was fine. You had Ashley and Nicole in the finals after 2-3 episodes?
  13. I love that fans and media outlets predict the season prior to ANY DRAFT PICKS BEING MADE!!
  14. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 09:29 PM) I fear that this is officially the end. Too bad. I think this is a tad premature. Kane and Toews are like 28 years old.
  15. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) Ok, you realize that your two examples cited here are FAILED international signings, right? Failing to sign Soler and failing to sign Tanaka actually makes it appear more likely that the Sox will (here's that word again) FAIL to sign Robert, based on historical precedent. I'm not picking on you, but KW & RH coming to a press conference to tell the fans "we tried" to sign Robert seems like an extension of the failures with Soler & Tanaka. Your point was that they were cheap though. Just because they didn't land those two guys, it doesn't mean they are cheap. They want hard on both and the guys picked other destinations.
  16. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Apr 21, 2017 -> 07:52 AM) I don't recall the timing, but signing a 27 year old Jose Abreu doesn't seem to be anything like pursuing a 19/20 year old Robert. The former seems like KW's treasured policy of pursuing veterans. Any pursuit of Robert would seem to go contrary to Reinsdorf's reluctance to spend on "just prospects." Moreover, I can't recall an example where this org beat out other MLB teams to sign a youngster where other teams were interested and involved in pursuing a youngster. Belle, Borchard, and Abreu were veteran players, unlike Robert. Borchard was a draftee. Viciedo did not gin up as much interest & competition for his services as Robert. I see no precedence in recent years from this org. On balance, signing Robert seems incredibly unlikely to me. The White Sox finished 2nd on Jorge Soler and offered him in the $25 million range. He took 9/30 from the Cubs. Sox also had a monster offer for Masahiro Tanaka. I've criticized JR a fair share over the years for draft and international spending habits but this is different. If the people he trusts in his organization want this guy, he'll spend the money. I'm not really worried about that in this case.
  17. Adell does have superstar potential though. Haseley doesn't. It's a risk/reward thing. They need some of these guys. They placed an emphasis on on-base types who didn't strikeout a ton in the previous draft. I don't think that means they shy away from "athletes" though. Hostetler comes from the Schuerholz school of scouting that focuses on power pitching and athletes at premium positions.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:39 PM) Does that mean he can agree to a deal before then, but not just sign it, or not able to negotiate until then? I'm sure numbers have already been exchanged.
  19. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:42 PM) http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mock-...UMGkKBkxSZIR.97 They have the Sox taking Louisville Prep OF Jordon Adell. Loaded with tools. Significant swing and miss issues though. 11. White Sox The White Sox would snap up Gore if he fell this far, but that’s unlikely. An infusion of pitching talent in offseason trades gives the Sox the flexibility to go back to one of their favored phyla of talent, toolsy prep outfielders such as Louisville prep toolshed Jordan Adell. Pick: Jordon Adell, of, Ballard HS, Louisville | Speculation is that Minnesota wants to cut a deal at #1. 1. Twins-Brendan McKay LHP Louisville 2. 21. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 12:20 PM) Man. Robert would be such a nice addition to the system but I honestly have no faith that the Sox will spend enough to get him. If they can't spend enough to get him, their rebuilding efforts are doomed and none of this matters anyway.
  22. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) Badler is usually very good about this stuff, and if he thinks a team that is over the limit already is more likely to sign him, i'm inclined to believe it. That said, there's always a chance the Sox surprise. Sure because that makes sense. I wrote an entire article on this though. Badler specifically mentioned the Sox as the team that kept coming up the most in discussions about where he'd land. He even said Sox could blow past pools to sign him. The Sox don't have any current rumored signings for the next period. This is a big factor IMO. They can sign him for any amount and just pay the tax. They won't be reneging on any offers with players for the next period. It being the White Sox makes complete sense.
  23. QUOTE (daggins @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 11:10 AM) Prior to that Badler update, i'd have pegged us at like 20%. Now? Maybe 5-10%. Seriously? I would classify the White Sox as the favorites personally.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 20, 2017 -> 10:52 AM) Apparently I was looking at a 2016 list where he was still #12. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2017?list=was That's their list. Tons of international signings. Soto, Kieboom, Antuna, and Luzardo are the guys I'd target from them.
  25. Soto is a top 100 type for multiple outlets and probably their 3rd best prospect. LHP Jesus Luzardo is a guy that I'd target in any deal with Washington. Had TJS in HS. Fell to the 2nd round because of it. Would have been a likely top 20 pick last year.
